SEC EDGAR API: Financials, Filings & 10-K Sections for AI Agents

Use this when you need reliable data on US-listed companies straight from the SEC. Give it a ticker (AAPL), a company name (Microsoft) or a CIK, and get clean JSON: the company profile, standardised financial statements (revenue, gross profit, operating income, net income, EPS, operating cash flow, capex, free cash flow, cash, assets, liabilities, equity and debt), filings lists, 10-K and 10-Q sections as text (Risk Factors, MD&A, Business and more) and EDGAR full-text search across every filer.

  • 🏛️ Official source. Data comes only from SEC EDGAR's free public APIs. No scraping of paid terminals and no third-party resellers
  • 📊 Standardised financials. Five or more years, or quarters, of XBRL figures in one consistent schema, with margins and free cash flow worked out for you
  • 📄 Sections an LLM can read. Risk factors or MD&A as plain text, with the table of contents skipped automatically
  • 🔎 Full-text search. Find every 10-Q that mentions "going concern" or a specific product
  • 🤖 Agent-ready. One string in, JSON out, typical calls finish in 1–3 seconds, and it works with the Apify MCP server and agentic payments
  • 🧘 Respectful. A declared User-Agent, throttled to half of SEC's fair-access limit, with caching inside each run

FAQ

Which companies are covered? Every company that files with the SEC, including about 10,000 listed companies and foreign filers that file 20-F/40-F reports. Standardised financials need XBRL data, so some funds and trusts only have filings.

How are the financials standardised? We read SEC's XBRL "company facts". For each metric we use the most common US-GAAP tags in priority order, and the latest filing for each period, so restatements are picked up. Quarterly figures come from 10-Qs, so the fourth quarter isn't reported separately; take it from the annual figure.

Is the data real-time? Each call reads the live EDGAR APIs, so new filings show up within minutes of being accepted by the SEC.

Why did a section come back with a note instead of text? A few companies put sections in exhibits or use unusual headings. You are not charged for those.

Is this investment advice? No. It returns what companies filed with the SEC.
