What it does and who it is for
This Actor searches Grants.gov, the US government's central site for federal grant opportunities, and returns one flat record per opportunity: title, agency, status, posted and close dates, award ceiling and floor, estimated total funding, number of awards, eligible applicants, funding category, description and agency contact. It reads the official Grants.gov public API (the search call plus the per-opportunity detail call), with no API key, login or browser automation.
Filter by keyword, status (forecasted, posted, closed, archived), agency, funding category, eligible applicant type, funding instrument, Assistance Listing number, posted-within-N-days and a minimum award ceiling. Turn on Only new to get just the grants you have not seen before.
Use cases
- Grant writers and consultants: a daily feed of new funding notices for each client profile.
- Nonprofits, universities, cities and tribes: track opportunities you are eligible for using the applicant-type filter.
- Small businesses: follow small-business-eligible funding such as SBIR/STTR programs.
- GovTech and grant-management software: enrich your product with structured opportunity data.
- AI agents: call it through the Apify API or MCP server to answer "which open federal grants mention rural broadband?".
Why use this instead of the free official site or API
The underlying data is public and the official sources are free. What this Actor adds is convenience: one input, one flat table, and a memory of what you have already seen.
| What you need | Official site / API | This Actor |
|---|---|---|
| Searching with several filters at once | Search page for people; the API search call returns summary hits only | Keyword, status, agency, category, eligibility, instrument, listing number, recency and minimum ceiling in one input |
| Award ceiling, floor, eligibility, contact | A second API call (or a page visit) per opportunity | Detail fields are merged into each row when Include details is on (the default) |
| Only grants you have not seen | You compare today's results to yesterday's yourself | Only new mode with a named alert remembers returned opportunities |
| Getting data into a sheet or CRM | Copy and paste, or write your own client | JSON, CSV or Excel download, API, webhooks and integrations |
If you only need a single lookup now and then, the official site is fine. If you want the same data on a schedule, as flat rows you can feed to a spreadsheet, CRM or agent, this saves the glue work.

"New since yesterday" alerts
Turn on Only new and the Actor remembers what it has already returned, so each scheduled run delivers only records you have not seen before.
- Open the Actor in Apify Console and set the input, with Only new since last run switched on and a fixed alert name (
stateKey). Example input:
{"keyword": "broadband","statuses": ["posted", "forecasted"],"postedWithinDays": 30,"includeDetails": true,"maxResults": 200,"onlyNew": true,"stateKey": "broadband-grants"}
- Click Save as task, then open Schedules, create a schedule (for example the cron expression
0 7 * * *for every day at 7:00 in the time zone you pick) and add the task to it. - Under the task's Integrations, send the results to Slack, email, Google Sheets, a webhook or your own system.
A 30-day window with Only new is a good pattern: anything posted in the last 30 days that you have not received yet is returned exactly once.
The first run returns everything that matches your window (every matching opportunity posted in the last 30 days); later runs return only unseen records. Use a different alert name for each task so each keeps its own memory. A run with nothing new returns no results.
Cost per run
This Actor uses pay-per-result pricing: $3.00 per 1,000 results ($0.003 per result), with the Apify platform fee included. You are charged for the records a run returns and nothing is added on top for platform usage. A run that finds nothing new returns no results, so it has no per-result charge. The Max results input caps what a run can return (and so what it can cost).
Worked example: a daily alert that finds 15 new matching grants returns 15 results, so 15 × $0.003 = $0.045 for that run, about $1.35 for a 30-day month. A one-off pull of 2,000 opportunities costs 2 × $3.00 = $6.00.
The pricing is configured in Apify Console; the Pricing tab on this page is the authoritative source if it ever differs from this text.
Example input and output
The output below comes from real test runs of this Actor. Email addresses are masked and very long text is shortened here; the Actor returns the full values.

Limits worth knowing
- Data is read live from Grants.gov on every run, so it is as fresh as the Grants.gov site itself.
- Award amounts, deadlines and totals are empty when the agency did not publish them, which is common for forecasts.
- With Include details off the run is faster, but the detail-only fields (ceiling, floor, eligibility, contact and so on) are not filled.
- The minimum award ceiling filter needs the detail data, so opportunities without a published ceiling are skipped when it is set.
- With a small Max results and Only new on, each run returns the next unseen batch, not the same records again.
FAQ
Do I need an API key or a Grants.gov account?
No. The Actor uses the public Grants.gov API without a key or login.
How current is the data?
Every run queries Grants.gov directly, so it shows what Grants.gov shows at that moment.
Why are some amounts empty?
The agency did not publish them. Forecast notices often have no ceiling or floor yet.
How do I find opportunities my organization can apply to?
Use the eligible-applicant filter (for example nonprofits, state governments or small businesses) together with a keyword.
Does it submit applications or give grant advice?
No. It returns public opportunity data only.
