Scrape video, Short, and community post metadata from any YouTube channel — titles, descriptions, view counts, likes, durations, upload dates, and more — to power content research, competitor monitoring, and influencer analytics, for just $3 per 1,000 items. Feed it one channel or a hundred, and get a clean structured dataset of everything they publish — no video downloads, no YouTube API key required.

What can YouTube Channel Scraper do for you?

  • Track every upload from any channel — Pull the full catalog of regular videos, Shorts, and community posts from one or many YouTube channels in a single run.
  • Benchmark competitor content — Compare view counts, like counts, upload cadence, and content mix across rival channels to inform your content strategy.
  • Identify trending creators and influencers — Extract engagement metrics per video to shortlist high-performing creators for sponsorships and partnerships.
  • Build structured content databases — Export titles, descriptions, tags, categories, and URLs into JSON, CSV, or Excel for research, analytics, or training datasets.
  • Monitor channel activity automatically — Schedule recurring runs to capture every new video, Short, or post the moment it's published.
  • Scrape only what you need — Set separate limits for videos, Shorts, and posts per channel, with a global cap, so runs stay fast and cost-controlled.

Detailed Data

Scheduling & Deduplication

Scheduling: YouTube channels publish at very different cadences — news channels post daily, while many creators upload weekly or sporadically. Set up recurring runs from Apify Console's Scheduler tab: a daily schedule keeps your dataset current for competitor and influencer monitoring, while a weekly schedule is enough for catalog snapshots. Because channelUrls accepts multiple channels, one schedule covers your entire channel list; add a separate schedule per channel group if you want different cadences (e.g. daily for competitors, weekly for the rest).

Deduplication: Within a single run, the actor deduplicates automatically — content IDs discovered across tabs and channels are de-duplicated in memory, so the same video never appears twice even if it shows up in both Videos and Shorts tabs, and maxItems hard-caps the total records pushed to the dataset. When you re-run over the same channels, already-scraped items are returned again (their id values repeat), which is what you want for fresh engagement snapshots. If you merge exports from multiple runs into one database, key on the id field to keep a single record per video:

from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("YOUR-APIFY-TOKEN")
seen = set()
merged = []
for run_dataset_id in ["DATASET-RUN-1", "DATASET-RUN-2"]:
for item in client.dataset(run_dataset_id).iterate_items():
if item["id"] not in seen:
seen.add(item["id"])
merged.append(item)

Webhooks: Attach a webhook to run completion to trigger downstream pipelines (database sync, alerts for new uploads, or dashboards) automatically.

Understanding Proxies:

When scraping data or browsing anonymously, proxies are essential. They act as intermediaries, masking your original IP address and allowing you to send requests from another location.

Why Use Proxies?

  • Avoid IP Blocks: By routing requests through proxies, you prevent the target website from recognizing your IP as a scraper or spammer.
  • Access Geo-restricted Content: Proxies let you access content or websites restricted by location.
  • Enhance Anonymity: Hide your actual IP, ensuring privacy while scraping or browsing.

Types of Proxies

  1. Residential Proxies
    • Real IP addresses provided by ISPs to home users.
    • They mimic regular users, making them harder to detect.
    • Best for: Long-term, undetectable scraping, and avoiding blocks.
  2. Data Center Proxies
    • IP addresses from servers in data centers.
    • Faster and cheaper than residential proxies but easier to detect and block.
    • Best for: High-speed scraping, but with a higher risk of detection.
  3. Mobile Proxies
    • IPs provided by mobile carriers (3G/4G/5G networks).
    • Very difficult to detect, as they appear as regular mobile users.
    • Best for: Mobile-related scraping or avoiding sophisticated blocks.

Rotating Proxies vs. Straight Proxies

  • Rotating Proxies: Every request you send goes through a different proxy, making it harder for websites to detect patterns.
  • Straight Proxies: All requests are sent through the same proxy, making it easier to track your IP.

FAQs & Troubleshooting

Q: Which URL formats does the channelUrls field accept?

Any standard YouTube channel URL works: @handle (e.g. https://www.youtube.com/@TED), /channel/ID, /c/name, and /user/name. You can also paste a tab URL such as https://www.youtube.com/@NASA/videos — the actor normalizes it back to the channel root and discovers the content tabs itself. Duplicate channels in the list are de-duplicated automatically.

Q: My run failed with "Nothing to scrape. Set maxVideos, maxShorts, and/or maxPosts to a value greater than 0."

This error means all three content limits are zero. The actor needs at least one content type enabled — set maxVideos, maxShorts, or maxPosts to a value greater than 0. To scrape only Shorts, for example, set maxVideos: 0 and maxShorts: 50.

Q: What counts as one billable item?

Every record pushed to the dataset is one item — a regular video, a Short, or a community post, each with its full metadata. Items are billed at $3 per 1,000 (less with Apify plan discounts). Use maxItems to cap the total bill: e.g. maxItems: 1000 stops the run at exactly 1,000 records across all channels and content types.

Q: Does this actor download the videos?

No. The scraper extracts metadata only — titles, descriptions, engagement counts, durations, thumbnails, and other fields — with media downloads disabled. This keeps runs fast, lightweight, and cheap, and lets you scrape hundreds of videos without storing or transferring video files.

Q: Why are some of my results empty or failing to extract?

YouTube can throttle or block requests from data centers, which usually surfaces as missing items or extraction timeouts. The actor defaults to Apify Residential proxies for this reason. If you see partial results, lower maxConcurrency (1–3), keep residential proxies enabled, and retry — the actor already retries failed items automatically before reporting them. Extremely old or deleted videos may legitimately return partial metadata (e.g. missing commentCount).

Q: Can I scrape community posts in addition to videos and Shorts?

Yes. Community posts are pulled from each channel's Posts/Community tab when you set maxPosts above 0 (default is 0, so posts are skipped unless enabled). Post records include the post text, engagement counts, and publication date, and are labeled with contentType: "post" in the dataset.
