What it does
The actor runs each equipment search you pass against the Ritchie Bros. auction catalog, paginates through the matching lots, applies your filters (make, model, category, year range, price range, max hours, country, state), and writes one normalized record per lot to the run's dataset. Every record includes make, model and year, category and industry, condition flags, usage hours or odometer, serial and stock numbers, starting bid and currency, buy-now details, the full auction schedule, seller platform, location with coordinates, a features summary, and the listing image and URL.
Data covers used heavy equipment auction lots on rbauction.com worldwide: excavators, dozers, loaders, cranes, trucks and more. Filter by country and state to focus on a single region.
Quickstart
Open the actor, paste this into the input, and press Run. It returns Caterpillar excavator lots.
{"searchQueries": ["excavator"],"make": "Caterpillar","maxLots": 15}
Each item in searchQueries runs its own search; results are combined up to maxLots. Every other field is an optional filter applied to the combined results.

Run via API and CLI
Start a run and wait for it to finish, then read the dataset. Replace <TOKEN> with your Apify API token.
Run synchronously and get dataset items in one call:
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/scrapers_lat~ritchie-bros-equipment-scraper/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=<TOKEN>" \-H "Content-Type: application/json" \-d '{"searchQueries":["excavator"],"make":"Caterpillar","yearMin":2015,"maxLots":50}'
Start a run asynchronously:
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/scrapers_lat~ritchie-bros-equipment-scraper/runs?token=<TOKEN>" \-H "Content-Type: application/json" \-d '{"searchQueries":["wheel loader","dozer"],"country":"USA","state":"TX","maxLots":200}'
Apify CLI:
apify call scrapers_lat/ritchie-bros-equipment-scraper \--input '{"searchQueries":["cat 320"],"maxLots":25}'
Fetch results
Every run writes to a dataset. Fetch items as JSON, CSV, or Excel by changing format:
# JSONcurl "https://api.apify.com/v2/datasets/<DATASET_ID>/items?token=<TOKEN>&clean=true&format=json"# CSVcurl "https://api.apify.com/v2/datasets/<DATASET_ID>/items?token=<TOKEN>&clean=true&format=csv"# Paginate large datasetscurl "https://api.apify.com/v2/datasets/<DATASET_ID>/items?token=<TOKEN>&offset=1000&limit=1000"
<DATASET_ID> is returned as defaultDatasetId in the run object. Use offset and limit to page through large result sets. clean=true drops empty and internal fields.
Billing and limits
- Pay per result. You are charged per auction lot returned (
resultevent). See the pricing tab for the current per-result price. - No charge on failure. Failed searches do not push billable lots, so empty runs cost nothing.
- Spend cap respected. Set
maxTotalChargeUsdon the run; once reached, the actor stops emitting and charging further billable results. - Free Apify plans are capped at 10 lots per run. Upgrade for higher
maxLots.
FAQ and troubleshooting
A run returned 0 records. Why?
Your filter combination matched nothing in the current catalog. Loosen a filter (for example widen the year range or drop state), or try a broader search term. Zero-result runs are not charged.
Why are make and model sometimes null?
Some lots, especially new or unbranded items, do not publish a structured make and model. Those fields are returned as null rather than invented; the title and description still describe the item.
How do I filter to one country and state?
Set country to the 3-letter code (for example USA) and state to the region code (for example TX).
What currency are the prices in?
Each lot's currency is returned in priceCurrency. Lots at different auctions can use different currencies (USD, CAD, EUR), so always read the price together with its currency.
Can I search several equipment types at once?
Yes. Put each type in the searchQueries array. One run covers them all, and each record's searchQuery tells you which search it came from.
