What it does

The actor searches the Texas Comptroller franchise-tax account-status system by entity name, taxpayer number, or SOS file number, merges and de-duplicates results across searches, and writes one normalized record per entity to the run's dataset. With withDetails on (the default) it fetches each entity's full account status: the registered agent, SOS registration status and date, mailing and registered-office addresses, and the complete officers/directors block from the Public Information Report (PIR Form 05-102), flattened into an easy-to-read officers string plus officerCount and the first officer's name and title. Missing source values are returned as null rather than invented.

Quickstart

Open the actor, paste this into the input, and press Run. It returns up to 30 entities matching WALMART with full agent and officer details.

{
"names": ["WALMART"],
"maxEntities": 30,
"withDetails": true
}

Every input field is optional. Search by names, or look up a single entity by taxpayerId or fileNumber.

Run via API and CLI

Start a run and wait for it to finish, then read the dataset. Replace <TOKEN> with your Apify API token.

Run synchronously and get dataset items in one call:

curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/scrapers_lat~texas-comptroller-entities-scraper/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=<TOKEN>" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"names":["WALMART"],"maxEntities":30,"withDetails":true}'

Start a run asynchronously:

curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/scrapers_lat~texas-comptroller-entities-scraper/runs?token=<TOKEN>" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"taxpayerId":"17104151885","withDetails":true}'

Apify CLI:

apify call scrapers_lat/texas-comptroller-entities-scraper \
--input '{"fileNumber":"0003668006"}'

Fetch results

Every run writes to a dataset. Fetch items as JSON, CSV, or Excel by changing format:

# JSON
curl "https://api.apify.com/v2/datasets/<DATASET_ID>/items?token=<TOKEN>&clean=true&format=json"
# CSV
curl "https://api.apify.com/v2/datasets/<DATASET_ID>/items?token=<TOKEN>&clean=true&format=csv"
# Paginate large datasets
curl "https://api.apify.com/v2/datasets/<DATASET_ID>/items?token=<TOKEN>&offset=1000&limit=1000"

<DATASET_ID> is returned as defaultDatasetId in the run object. Use offset and limit to page through large result sets. clean=true drops empty and internal fields.

Billing and limits

  • Pay per result. You are charged per entity returned (result event). See the pricing tab for the current per-result price.
  • Detail add-on. When withDetails is on and the full account status (agent + officers) is fetched, a small details event is charged in addition to the result. Turn withDetails off to skip it.
  • No charge on failure. Failed or empty runs do not charge for records that were not returned.
  • Spend cap respected. Set maxTotalChargeUsd on the run; once reached, the actor stops emitting and charging further billable results.
  • Free Apify plans are capped at 10 records per run. Upgrade for higher maxEntities.

FAQ and troubleshooting

A run returned 0 entities. Why? The name matched nothing, or the taxpayer/file number was not found. Try a shorter or different name, or confirm the number. Zero-result runs are not charged.

How do I look up one exact entity? Pass its taxpayerId (11 digits) or fileNumber (SOS file number) instead of a name.

Why is registeredAgentName or officers empty? Those come from the full account status, which is only fetched when withDetails is on. Some entities also have no officer block on file.

What is the officers format? One line per officer as NAME | TITLE | ADDRESS | (YEAR), so it stays readable in a single CSV cell. Use officerCount for the count.

Is this an official Texas government tool? No. This actor is independent and has no affiliation with the Texas Comptroller or Secretary of State. It reads only data that is publicly available on the franchise-tax account-status system.
