Each record is one filing that matches your search, with the metadata you need to identify the filer and open the document, ready to load into any database, spreadsheet, or research pipeline:
- entityName: name of the company or person that filed
- ticker: stock ticker symbol, when the filer is in the SEC ticker directory
- cik: ten digit SEC Central Index Key for the filer
- form: filing form type of the matched document, such as 10-K or 10-K/A
- rootForm: base form family the document belongs to, such as 10-K
- filedAt: date the filing was filed
- periodEnding: period the filing covers, when reported
- accessionNo: unique SEC accession number for the filing
- fileType: document type within the filing
- fileName: file name of the matched document
- score: relevance score the EDGAR search assigned to the hit
- sic: SEC industry classification code for the filer

Frequently Asked Questions
What can I search for?
Any word or phrase that appears in the text of a filing. Wrap a phrase in double quotes for an exact match, for example "artificial intelligence", or pass plain words to match them anywhere in the document.
Which filings are covered?
The SEC full-text search index covers filings from 2001 onward. You can narrow a search to specific form types, such as only 10-K, and to a filing date range, so you only get the documents you care about.
How many results can I get per run?
You set the limit with Max Items. The SEC full-text index returns up to 10,000 matching hits for a single query, served ten at a time, so very broad searches are best narrowed with a phrase, form type, or date range.
Can I open the actual filing?
Yes. Every record includes a url that opens the matched document on sec.gov and a filingUrl that opens the full filing index, so you can go straight from a hit to the source.
What happens when a filer has no ticker?
Many filers are private parties or funds that are not in the ticker directory. For those the ticker field is empty while the entity name, CIK and links are still populated.
