🚛 FMCSA Carrier Scraper — USDOT, MC number, phone and email

Turn the federal motor carrier census into a trucking lead list. Filter by state, fleet size, operation type or registration date, and get one row per carrier: USDOT number, MC number, the phone and email the carrier filed with the DOT, officer name, full address, fleet size, driver counts, hazmat flag and annual mileage.

What does this actor do?

It queries the FMCSA Motor Carrier Census (~4.5 million carriers, refreshed daily) and returns flat rows you can load straight into a CRM:

• 🆔 dotNumber / mcNumber — the USDOT number and the MC docket number
• 🏢 legalName, classification (e.g. AUTHORIZED FOR HIRE), businessType
• 📞 phone and 📧 email — as filed by the carrier on its MCS-150

A carrier that just got its authority has to buy insurance, factoring, an ELD, fuel cards and a TMS — usually within weeks. Set registeredAfter to last week and sort by newest:

Who is this for?

Freight brokers and load boards, trucking insurance agents, ELD/TMS/fuel-card vendors, factoring companies, and equipment dealers — everyone whose customer is a carrier.

Field coverage — measured, and it depends on carrier age

This is the one thing worth understanding before you buy. Measured across the whole census, 2026-08-27 — the established column is every active carrier registered before 2015 (912,338 of them), not a hand-picked slice:

Why: a brand-new carrier has filed its contact details but has not yet been issued a DUNS number or filed a first MCS-150 update. Established carriers have that paperwork, but fewer of them carry an email address or officer name on file at all. Neither is a scraper defect — it is what the register contains.

Fleet-wide, across all ~4.5 million carriers: email ~66%, MC number ~40%, fax ~26%.

Honest limits

• requireEmail is enforced on the parsed value, not just the raw field. The census sometimes stores several addresses in one string (kbaker@prim.com; pschultz@prim.com) — those are split, the first becomes email and the rest additionalEmails. Rows where nothing parses are dropped rather than delivered empty, so you never pay for a contactless row you filtered out.
• dbaName is not available. The census feed carries the legal name only; the "doing business as" name lives on the SAFER page, which is a separate per-carrier fetch and is not part of this actor. saferUrl deep-links there.
• Safety ratings and insurance filings are not in this dataset. They live in FMCSA's L&I and SMS systems. This actor is the census: identity, contact, fleet and registration.
• Numbers are what the carrier self-reported on its MCS-150. mileageYear tells you how old that self-report is — or is 0, meaning the carrier has not filed an MCS-150 yet (the usual case for new registrations).

FAQ

Where does the data come from? data.transportation.gov — the US Department of Transportation's official open-data platform. This is the government publishing the register for reuse, not a site being scraped.

How fresh is it? The census updates daily, with roughly a one-day lag — sorting by newest returns carriers registered yesterday or today.

Can I get every carrier in a state? Yes, for every state except California. Set the state and maxItems: 0. Note activeOnly defaults to true — turn it off to include inactive carriers. Texas has ~375,000 carriers, ~193,000 of them active. A single run is capped at 500,000 rows, which covers every state except California (~502,000 total, ~328,000 active).

Can I look up specific carriers? Put their USDOT numbers in dotNumbers.

How do I skip owner-operators? Set minPowerUnits to 5 or more.

Can I get only hazmat carriers? Set hazmatOnly. There are ~287,000 of them.

Do I need a proxy? No. It is an open government API with no anti-bot. Leave the proxy field empty.

Why do some carriers have no MC number? An MC docket is only issued to for-hire interstate carriers. Intrastate and private fleets legitimately have none — 40% of the census has one.

Is the email address verified? It is what the carrier filed with the DOT, syntax-checked and de-duplicated by this actor. It is not deliverability-verified — run it through a verifier if that matters to you.

Is this legal to use? The census is US federal public data published for reuse. You are still responsible for how you contact people — CAN-SPAM, TCPA and state do-not-call rules apply to your outreach, not to the data.
