Print on Demand Listing & Design Generator — Niches, Trademark Clearance & Print Files 👕

Store SIÁN Agency Store USPTO Trademark Search Store Amazon ASIN Lookup Store Etsy Product Scraper

🎉 Every brand name and slogan is trademark-screened before a single design is made

Built for print-on-demand sellers who would rather lose a niche than lose an account

🌐 Supported platforms

One Actor, several storefronts. Pick your platform and the copy is written and validated against that platform's own published rules — Amazon Merch on Demand, Etsy, Redbubble or Zazzle. Amazon Merch is the default because it has the strictest limits and the harshest penalty for getting them wrong.

Every limit below was read from that platform's own documentation. Where a platform publishes no limit for a field, we enforce none and say so — an invented number would produce listings rejected at upload, which is the exact failure this Actor exists to prevent.

PlatformListing copyPrint artworkNotes
Amazon Merch on Demand (default)brand 50 · title 60 · 2 features × 256 · description 1200 · 5–8 tags✅ 4500 × 5400, 300 DPIStrictest rules; extra title/brand restrictions applied automatically
Etsytitle 140 · 13 tags × 20 chars · description uncappedEtsy publishes no artwork spec; it is a marketplace, not a printer
Redbubbledescription 250 · 15 tags × 50 chars · title uncapped✅ 2400 × 3200 apparelNo brand or feature fields exist on Redbubble
Zazzletitle 50 · 10 tags · description uncappedZazzle publishes no artwork spec we could verify

Publishing is manual on every one of them. No print-on-demand platform offers listing-upload automation, so this Actor produces files and copy for you to upload yourself. See "What this Actor does and does not do".

🔎 What is the Print on Demand T-Shirt Design & Listing Generator — and when should you use it?

The Print on Demand T-Shirt Design & Listing Generator turns print-on-demand niche discovery, US trademark screening, slogans, listing copy and print artwork into clean, structured rows you can filter, export and feed straight into a spreadsheet, database or AI agent. No account, no portal API key, no browser automation to maintain.

Use it when you need: fresh niches mined from what print-on-demand sellers are posting this week, plus a three-state trademark verdict on every phrase with the conflicting marks attached. Then slogans, listing copy measured against your platform's own published limits, and a 300-DPI print file.

Use something else when: you only need one of those stages on its own. Use USPTO Trademark Scraper for trademark screening on its own, for names you already have, with no design work attached. Use Amazon Product Scraper for raw competitor listings, pricing and review depth without the scoring or the artwork. This Actor writes listings and print files. It never uploads to any platform and never asks for store credentials.

🤖 Use with AI agents

Already connected to the Apify MCP server? Just ask for this Actor by name: sian.agency/t-shirt-design-and-listing-generator

Your agent can pay for its own runs. This Actor is eligible for agentic payments, so an agent can discover it, run it and settle the bill over x402 (USDC on Base) or Skyfire — without an Apify account or API token of its own. Billing is the same either way: per successful row, never for errors.

Otherwise copy this prompt into Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP-enabled assistant:

I want a publishable print-on-demand listing, from a niche or from nothing at all using the Apify Actor `sian.agency/t-shirt-design-and-listing-generator`.
Use it when I need: fresh niches mined from what print-on-demand sellers are posting this week, plus a three-state trademark verdict on every phrase with the conflicting marks attached. Then slogans, listing copy measured against your platform's own published limits, and a 300-DPI print file.
Don't use it when: you only need one of those stages on its own — use uspto-trademark-scraper or amazon-product-scraper instead.
How to call it: pick a `mode` — `discover` finds new niches from creator videos, `research` scores a niche you name, `ideate` writes slogans, `clearance` screens phrases, `listing` writes copy, `design` produces artwork, and `full` chains the lot. Artwork comes two ways: `artOutput: "printReady"` generates it, `"textOnly"` renders your wording from a real font so the spelling is exact. Discovery, slogans and all artwork need a paid Apify plan.
Start with this input:
{
"mode": "full",
"platform": "amazon-merch",
"niches": [
"sourdough starter"
],
"marketplace": "US",
"artOutput": "printReady",
"transparency": "keyed",
"designAngle": "group-event",
"garmentColor": "dark",
"trademarkRiskThreshold": "balanced"
}
Ask me which platform I sell on, and either a niche or nothing at all if you want me to go find one, then run the Actor and summarise the results as a table.

Things you can ask your agent for:

  • Find me niches that print-on-demand sellers are talking about this week, and screen each one for trademarks
  • Write ten slogans for the sourdough niche, drop any that clash with a live mark, and show me why each one converts
  • Take my best cleared phrase, render it in a heavy poster font with a worn finish, and give me the 300-DPI print file

Machine-readable API, MCP config and OpenAPI definition for this Actor are published at apify.com/sian.agency/t-shirt-design-and-listing-generator.md.

📋 Overview

Most print-on-demand research tools stop at "here's a niche with low competition." That leaves you to guess whether the name you invented is already someone's registered trademark. This Actor closes that gap: clearance is wired into the workflow, not offered as an add-on.

What you get:

  • Clearance is mandatory, not a toggle: every brand, title and slogan the Actor generates is screened before anything is built on it. There is no input that turns this off.
  • 🚦 Three-state verdicts, never a bare yes/no: clear, caution or blocked. A registry can report a name "available" while a live pending mark from a major brand sits against it — a plain availability flag hides that, and this does not.
  • 🛑 A blocked phrase stops the line: no listing copy, no artwork. You get an explanatory row and the marks that caused it, with owner names and links to the official record.
  • 📏 Copy that actually fits your platform: character limits are enforced in code, not requested in a prompt. Every field is measured against the platform you selected, over-length copy is rewritten, and each row reports its own character counts and exactly which limits were applied.
  • 🎨 Print-ready artwork, verified: 300 DPI with genuine transparency, at a canvas size taken from that platform's own published table — never an approximation. Files are checked for dimensions, real alpha and file size before you are charged for them. Where a platform does not publish a size we can confirm, that product is simply not offered rather than guessed at.
  • 💰 You pay per validated result: if a design fails late, we absorb the generation cost and charge you nothing for it.

✨ Features

  • 📊 Niche scoring: demand, competition and opportunity scored from live competitor listings, with the reasoning attached.
  • 🌱 Sub-niche discovery: concrete audience and occasion angles, not synonyms of your seed term. Each one is filtered so you get buyers, not room names.
  • 📡 Niche discovery from creators: mines what print-on-demand sellers are posting on YouTube right now. Marketplace data shows what already sells, by which point the competition has arrived.
  • 💡 Slogan writing: ten candidates per niche, each with the emotion it targets and why it converts. Anything too long to read across a chest is dropped, not shortened.
  • ⚖️ Trademark screening: US registry, with the conflicting marks returned by default.
  • 🎚️ Adjustable risk appetite: decide whether a live mark outside apparel blocks you, raises a flag, or is ignored.
  • 👕 Apparel-class awareness: a live mark covering clothing always blocks, at every setting.
  • 📝 Per-platform copy: the fields your platform actually has, at the lengths it actually allows.
  • 🚫 Platform-specific copy rules: Amazon Merch's no-repeated-words title rule and banned-term list are applied only where they apply, never bolted onto platforms that don't have them.
  • 🖼️ Transparent artwork: full print resolution at 300 DPI, sized per platform and product type.
  • 🎯 Native-alpha option: a premium path that generates real transparency directly, with no keying step, for the cleanest possible edges on a garment.
  • 🔤 Text-only designs from real fonts: your wording is rendered from an actual font file rather than drawn by an image model, so the spelling is exact by construction. Seventeen display faces, or bring your own TTF or OTF by URL.
  • 🩹 Distressed finishes: five worn and aged looks built from real grunge textures, so the art reads as screen-printed instead of computer-generated. The same design always distresses identically.
  • 🎯 Commercial angles: aim a design at reunions and parties that buy a dozen shirts at once, or at an occupation, a family role or a pun.
  • 📦 Ready-to-import spreadsheets: a LazyMerch-shaped CSV and a provider-neutral one, both downloadable straight from the run. The image link goes in the sheet directly, so there are no files to download and no local paths to paste.
  • 🗂️ Clearance audit log: a timestamped record of every check, because trademark status changes over time.
  • 🌍 Seven marketplaces for competitor research.

🎬 Quick Start

Pick a mode and a platform, give it a niche, and read the rows. full chains all four stages; the narrower modes let you pay only for the stage you want.

curl -X POST https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/sian.agency~t-shirt-design-and-listing-generator/runs?token=YOUR_TOKEN \
-H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
-d '{"mode": "full", "platform": "amazon-merch", "niches": ["cat mom t-shirt"], "artOutput": "printReady"}'

🚀 Getting Started (3 Simple Steps)

Step 1: Choose your platform and mode

platform decides which rules your copy is validated against. research scores niches, clearance screens names you already have, listing and design add copy or art, full runs everything.

Step 2: Add your niches

One or more niche ideas, or upload a CSV for bulk runs.

Step 3: Decide on artwork

Leave artOutput as none for research and copy only — that is the whole free plan. Set it to printReady for full-resolution 300-DPI print files, which requires a paid Apify plan.

That's it. In a couple of minutes you'll have:

  • Scored niches with sub-niche angles worth testing
  • A trademark verdict on every name, with the blocking marks
  • Listing copy that fits your platform's character limits
  • Print-ready artwork you can review

Key-value store files:

FileWhat it is
upload-lazymerch-mba.csvReady to import into LazyMerch — its MBA column set, filled in
upload-generic.csvProvider-neutral sheet for any other uploader or a spreadsheet workflow
upload-manifest.jsonThe same data as JSON: copy, artwork and verdict joined per design
clearance-log.jsonTimestamped audit trail of every screening
design-{id}-print.pngFull-resolution print file at 300 DPI
report.htmlRun summary, written even if the run crashes

📤 Getting the output into your uploader

This Actor writes listings and print files. It does not upload anything to any platform, and it never asks for your store credentials. Publishing stays yours — through a bulk uploader or by hand.

To make that last step mechanical, every run that produces artwork writes two spreadsheets you can download straight from the run:

FileUse it for
upload-lazymerch-mba.csvLazyMerch, in its own MBA column order
upload-generic.csvAny other uploader, or your own spreadsheet

The image link goes in the sheet. LazyMerch's spec allows a direct, unauthenticated link to the image in place of a file path, and that is what the Design Path column carries — so there is nothing to download first and no local Windows paths to paste in.

Columns only you can answer are left blank on purpose: the product-settings template name, the fit type (Men / Women / Youth) and the placement arguments. A wrong template name silently falls back to your default, and a guessed fit type merchandises on your behalf. Blank means your tool applies its own defaults, which is the honest outcome.

The generic sheet carries the trademark verdict in the same row as the copy it applies to. A bulk uploader will happily publish a caution phrase without comment; keeping the verdict next to the listing is what puts it in front of you before that happens.

Only designs with a validated print file are included — a row pointing at artwork that failed would import as a listing with no image.

🎯 Transparency modes

Artwork must sit on a transparent background or it prints as a coloured box on the garment. There are two ways to get there, and they are priced separately because they cost very different amounts.

ModeHowEdgesAvailability
keyed (default)Generate, then cut the background out with a matting modelExcellent — soft-edge pixels preserved so there is no stair-stepped fringeAll plans
nativeGenerate with real alpha from the start, no cutting step at allThe cleanest possible: nothing was ever removed, so nothing can be removed wronglyPaid plans

native is billed as its own event, priced above the standard print file rather than sharing its rate. Use it for designs with fine detail, thin lettering or soft edges — hair, smoke, distressed texture — where a keyer has the least to work with. For flat two-colour vector-style art the keyed path is already excellent and costs less.

💼 Use Cases & Examples

1. Vetting a niche before you commit a design budget

A print-on-demand seller wants to know if a niche is worth entering.

Input: mode: "research" with five niches Output: demand, competition and opportunity scores, plus sub-niche angles Use: drop the saturated terms and design only for the ones with room

2. Screening slogans you already wrote

A designer has twenty slogans and no idea which are safe.

Input: mode: "clearance" with the slogans in phrases Output: a three-state verdict each, with owners and links for anything blocking Use: kill the risky ones before they ever reach a mockup

3. Listing the same design on more than one storefront

A seller sells the same catalogue on Amazon Merch and Etsy.

Input: mode: "listing" twice — once with platform: "amazon-merch", once with platform: "etsy" Output: two sets of copy, each validated against its own platform's rules Use: stop hand-trimming Merch copy to fit Etsy, or padding Etsy copy for Merch

4. Filling a catalogue without writing copy by hand

A seller with fifty cleared concepts needs listings for all of them.

Input: mode: "listing" with the niches Output: brand, title, features, tags and backend keywords, all length-validated Use: paste straight in, knowing nothing will bounce for being too long

5. Going from idea to reviewable design

A solo seller wants a first look at what a niche could become.

Input: mode: "full" with artOutput: "none" Output: the research, the verdict and the copy — no artwork, no artwork charge Use: decide which niches deserve a print file before spending on one

6. Producing print files for cleared winners

An established seller is scaling designs that already tested well.

Input: mode: "design" with artOutput: "printReady" Output: transparent PNGs at 300 DPI, dimension- and alpha-verified Use: upload the files with the manifest as your checklist

7. Keeping a defensible record of your diligence

An agency managing accounts for clients needs to show its work.

Input: any mode that screens phrases Output: clearance-log.json with every check, verdict and timestamp Use: a dated record of the diligence you performed

🔗 Integration Examples

  4. Action: append to a sheet, or notify your designer

📊 Performance & Pricing

FREE plan

  • 3 niches, 5 phrases and 1 listing per run
  • Niche scoring, trademark screening and listing copy at full quality
  • Artwork is not available on free plans — it is the only stage with a real per-image cost
  • Unlimited niches, phrases, listings and designs
  • Print-ready 300-DPI artwork unlocked
  • Native-alpha generation unlocked
  • Up to 4 design variations per concept

You are charged per validated result. Copy is billed once it passes the character check. A print file is billed only after it passes the dimension, transparency and file-size assertion — if it fails at any point, that generation is on us. Artwork carries exactly one charge, at the end, for a file that provably exists.

This is priced as a production tool, not a research toy. A finished listing — a scored niche, a cleared name, platform-ready copy and a print file — is billed as the several pieces of work it is. Nothing is metered by the hour or the row.

Buy only the stage you need. research scores niches at one charge per niche and stops there. clearance screens names you already wrote. listing and design add copy or art. Only full runs the whole chain, and only artOutput: printReady reaches the print file. Sweep wide on the cheap stages, then spend on the handful of concepts that survive.

⚙️ A note on compute: this Actor requests 1024 MB, because assembling a full-size transparent print canvas needs real memory. Research and clearance runs finish quickly; artwork runs are the long ones.

⚠️ What this Actor does and does not do

It produces candidates for human review. It does not produce upload-ready inventory.

Every row in the manifest is flagged humanReviewRequired: true, and that is not a formality:

  • It cannot and does not upload anything to any print-on-demand platform. No platform in this list offers listing-upload automation, so there is no integration, no account connection, and none is planned. You upload manually, every time.
  • Generated artwork needs your eyes on it. Image models make mistakes, including misspelling words inside a design. Look at every file before you use it.
  • The print file is a true 300 DPI, super-resolved rather than drawn at that size. Artwork is rendered small, enlarged four times, then placed on the print canvas. The delivered PNG has genuine 300-DPI pixel dimensions, but the detail behind them was sampled at about 75 DPI. Every print row reports that as nativeSamplingDpi instead of hiding it. Flat colour and lettering — nearly all print-on-demand work — hold up well. Photographic detail is where you would see the difference.
  • A clear verdict is a screening signal, not permission. See the disclaimer below.
  • Uploading artwork you do not own is the fastest way to lose an account. The optional reference-image input carries a warning for exactly this reason. Only ever supply work you created and hold full rights to.
  • Where a platform publishes no character limit, none is enforced. limitsApplied on every listing row tells you exactly which fields were checked and which were not. Check the unchecked ones yourself before you upload.

⚖️ Trademark screening — scope and limits

This is a screening signal, not legal advice, and not legal clearance.

The screen covers the US federal trademark register only. It does not see:

  • Common-law rights from unregistered use
  • US state-level registrations
  • Pending intent-to-use filings not yet published
  • Any non-US registry — a clear result says nothing about the UK, EU, Japan or anywhere else

Trademark status also changes. A verdict is accurate as of its checkedAt timestamp and no later, which is why every check is written to the audit log with its own timestamp.

Consult a trademark attorney before filing or launching a brand. Verdicts from this Actor are a first filter to save you from obvious collisions, not a substitute for professional advice.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which platforms are supported, and why not more? A: Amazon Merch on Demand, Etsy, Redbubble and Zazzle. A platform is only added once its own documentation states the limits, because a wrong character limit produces listings rejected at upload — the exact failure this Actor prevents. We would rather support four platforms correctly than eight approximately.

Q: Can it upload my listings for me? A: No, and neither can anything else — none of these platforms offers a listing-upload API for sellers. You get the copy, the tags and the print file; the upload is yours.

Q: Can I turn off the trademark screening to save money? A: No. Every mode that generates a name screens it. Skipping the check is the single most expensive mistake a print-on-demand seller can make, so it is not offered as an option.

Q: What does caution actually mean? A: A live mark exists, but it does not cover clothing. Under the balanced threshold that is a flag rather than a stop. Read the owner and classes and make your own call — or switch to strict and treat any live mark as blocking.

Q: Why did my design not get generated? A: If the phrase came back blocked, the workflow stops for that concept on purpose and pushes a row explaining why. Check the matching clearance row for the marks that caused it.

Q: Are the artwork files really print-ready? A: Files are verified for exact pixel dimensions, genuine transparency and file size before you are charged. Review the design itself before uploading — the checks confirm the file is technically valid, not that the art is right.

Q: Is the 300 DPI real, or upscaled? A: Both. The file carries genuine 300-DPI dimensions at its printed size, and it got there by enlarging a smaller render four times. The nativeSamplingDpi field on every print row tells you the density the detail was actually sampled at, usually around 75. We publish it rather than let the 300 stand on its own.

Q: Why isn't my print design edge-to-edge on the canvas? A: On purpose. The image model and the print canvas have different shapes, so the artwork is fitted inside and padded with transparency rather than stretched to fill. Stretching would distort the lettering, which on a typographic design is the whole product. The printGeometry field on every print row shows the exact placed size and printed dimensions in inches.

Q: What if the copy comes back too long? A: For any field your platform publishes a limit for, it cannot be. Fields are measured, rewritten if they overrun, and trimmed at a word boundary as a final guarantee. Where a platform publishes no limit, limitsApplied says so plainly rather than inventing one.

Q: What output formats are available? A: JSON, CSV and Excel from the dataset. Artwork and the manifest come from the key-value store.

Q: Does it work outside the US? A: Competitor research covers seven marketplaces. Trademark screening is US-only, and a non-US run emits a warning row saying so.

🐛 Troubleshooting

Every phrase comes back caution with an error message

  • The registry lookup failed. A screen that could not complete is deliberately reported as caution, never clear. Re-run before relying on it.

printReady was rejected

  • Artwork requires a paid Apify plan. Set artOutput to none to run the niche, trademark and listing stages on the free plan.

platform was rejected for artwork

  • Some platforms publish listing rules but no artwork spec (Etsy and Zazzle). Generate the art against the platform that actually prints your product, then reuse it.

My Amazon Merch product type isn't in the list

  • Merch offers two canvases here — standard and premium t-shirt, both 4500 × 5400. Amazon publishes its per-product template sizes behind a seller login, and the public figures for hoodies, PopSockets and totes disagree with each other, so those are not offered. Merch matches uploaded dimensions exactly, so a canvas we could not confirm would mean a rejected upload you had already paid for. Redbubble publishes its full table openly, which is why nine product canvases are available there.

A design row says error

  • The art chain stopped before a validated print file existed. The designError field and pipelineSteps array show exactly which stage stopped. Nothing was charged for that design — the charge sits after the assertion, so a failure anywhere before it is on us.

Listing copy is shorter than expected

  • Fields are trimmed to fit the limits. charCounts and limitsApplied show what was enforced; widen them with platformLimits if your reading of the platform rules is more generous.

No rows at all

  • Check mode matches the input you supplied: clearance needs phrases, every other mode needs niches.
