npm Package Trend Monitor
Find npm packages for JavaScript market research, dependency discovery, competitor tracking, package monitoring, and trend intelligence.
This Actor uses the public npm registry search API. It is fast, low-cost, and does not need a proxy by default.
What It Returns
- Package name, description, version, and npm URL
- Repository, homepage, and bug tracker URLs
- Keywords, publisher, maintainers, and publish date
- npm search scores for quality, popularity, and maintenance
- Source query and matched query terms
- Optional weekly download counts
- Monitoring mode for newly discovered packages
Common Uses
- Discover packages in a market/category
- Track new competitors and alternatives
- Research SDK ecosystems
- Monitor dependency trends
- Find package maintainers and project URLs
- Build lead lists around JavaScript tooling
Input Tips
Use focused package/category terms:
openai sdkshopify appstripe webhookreact tablepostgres ormanalytics sdk
Use maxResultsPerQuery when you provide several queries and want balanced output.
Weekly Downloads
Enable includeWeeklyDownloads when you need market-sizing signals. This adds one extra npm downloads API request per package, so it is slower than the default search-only mode.
Result Limits
maxResults is a maximum cap, not a guarantee. The Actor only writes packages that pass your relevance and quality filters.
The minimum maxResults is 50 so runs are commercially practical and users are charged for meaningful output.
Monitoring
Enable monitorChanges to compare the current run against the previous snapshot in the Actor key-value store.
When onlyChanges is enabled, the dataset contains only newly detected packages. When it is disabled, the dataset contains the current full result set while the change snapshot is still stored for automation.
Proxy Use
No proxy is needed by default. This Actor uses public npm APIs and does not run a browser.
Output
Each dataset row represents one npm package. The primary output event is one dataset row.
Notes
This Actor is not affiliated with npm, npm Inc., or GitHub. It reads public npm registry API results and stores structured rows in your Apify dataset.
