Website Tech Stack Detector

Find out which sites on your prospect list run WordPress, Shopify, Wix or another CMS or platform, and which tools they are missing, before you pitch them. Give this actor a required list of public website domains or URLs (one per line, up to 5,000). It checks each supplied homepage and returns the technologies visibly used there, so an agency or freelancer can sort a lead list by platform; it does not discover websites or scan the web for every user of a technology. Results cover: CMS or site builder (WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, GoDaddy, Duda, Joomla, Drupal...), e-commerce platform (Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento), analytics and ad pixels (Google Analytics, Tag Manager, Meta, LinkedIn, TikTok, Clarity, Hotjar), marketing, chat and scheduling tools (HubSpot, Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Intercom, Calendly), payments (Stripe, PayPal), JavaScript frameworks, and hosting/CDN/web server read from response headers (Cloudflare, Vercel, Netlify, WP Engine, Nginx...). 54 technologies in all (full list below).

It fetches only the public homepage, once, as WeioBot and respects each site's robots.txt. It does not log in, submit forms, crawl other pages or test for vulnerabilities. Rules match asset addresses, script calls and headers, not plain words, so a page that only mentions "WordPress" is not flagged. A missing technology is not proof that it is absent: some sites load tools only after a click or consent.

Who uses it

  • Agencies and freelancers qualifying a prospect list: for example, WordPress or Wix sites with no analytics or no Meta Pixel, or stores still on an older platform.
  • App, plugin and theme makers sizing a market: how many sites in a list run Shopify, WooCommerce or HubSpot.
  • Sales teams adding a "technology" column to a lead list before outreach, so each message fits the prospect's stack.
  • Competitor and market research: what CMS, analytics, chat and payment tools a set of companies use.

How to run it

  1. Paste your domains or URLs into Websites, one per line (or use Bulk edit to paste a whole column from a spreadsheet). Up to 5,000 per run; repeated entries are checked once.
  2. Click Start. Most sites take a few seconds each; checks run in parallel (8 by default, up to 32).
  3. Open the Output tab: the overview table shows each site with its technologies, technology count, generator tag and any error. Export it as CSV, Excel or JSON, then filter or sort by technology in your spreadsheet.

Input

{"websites":["brooklynbrewery.com","allbirds.com"],"concurrency":8}

Domains or full URLs, up to 5,000 per run.

Output

One row per website:

{"input":"allbirds.com","final_url":"https://www.allbirds.com/","status_code":200,
"technologies":["Shopify","Google Tag Manager","Cloudflare"],
"by_category":{"ecommerce":["Shopify"],"analytics":["Google Tag Manager"],"cdn":["Cloudflare"]},
"technology_count":3,"generator":null,"error":null}

generator is the page's own generator meta tag when present (for example "WordPress 6.6"). Sites that could not be loaded appear with error set (for example HTTP 404, RobotsDisallowed or a network error name) so you can fix or drop them.

Run it from code, a schedule or another tool

Python, with the apify-client package:

from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN")
run = client.actor("weio/website-tech-stack-detector").call(run_input={"websites": ["allbirds.com", "brooklynbrewery.com"]})
for row in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
print(row["input"], row["technologies"])

One HTTP call that runs the actor and returns the rows:

curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/weio~website-tech-stack-detector/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{"websites":["allbirds.com"]}'

You can also schedule it in Apify Console (for example, re-check a client list every month) or call it from Make, Zapier or n8n through their Apify integrations.

Pricing

$3.00 per 1,000 sites ($0.003 per site), platform usage included. Apify subscription tiers pay less per site automatically: $2.25 per 1,000 on Silver and $1.50 per 1,000 on Gold and above. You are charged only for sites that loaded; rows with an error (site down, HTTP error, robots.txt refusal, invalid address) are free.

Examples at the base price: 100 sites cost $0.30, 1,000 sites $3.00, and a full 5,000-site run $15.00.

FAQ

Why is a tool I know a site uses missing? The actor reads the homepage only, once, without clicking anything. Tools that load on inner pages, after cookie consent or after a user action may not appear, and the list covers the 54 technologies above.

Can it find every website that uses a given technology? No. You supply the websites; the actor tells you what each one runs.

Does it report version numbers? Only when the site states one in its generator meta tag (the generator field).

What happens when a site blocks bots? The actor follows robots.txt. A refused or unreachable site is returned with error set and is not charged.
