Extract the page <title> and meta description from any list of URLs. Useful for quick SEO checks, content audits, data enrichment, or research where you need to know what a page's title/description tag says without opening it yourself.

What it does

For each URL you provide, the actor:

  1. Fetches the page (10s timeout, standard browser user-agent).
  2. Parses the HTML and extracts:
    • <title> text
    • <meta name="description"> content (falls back to og:description if a standard description tag isn't present)
  3. Pushes one result per URL to the dataset.

Input

{
"urls": [
{ "url": "https://apify.com" },
{ "url": "https://example.com" }
]
}

urls is a list of URLs to fetch (required). At least one URL is needed.

Output

One dataset item per URL:

{
"url": "https://apify.com",
"title": "Apify: Marketplace of ready-to-run tools for AI",
"meta_description": "Thousands of tools to automate your business...",
"error": null
}

If a URL fails to load (timeout, DNS error, non-200 response, etc.), title and meta_description are null and error contains the failure reason — the run still succeeds so one bad URL doesn't block the rest of your batch.

Pricing

Pay-per-event:

  • Actor Start — charged once per run
  • Result — charged per URL processed
  • URL Extracted — the primary usage charge, per URL successfully extracted

Notes

  • Respects a 10-second timeout per URL so one slow site can't hang the run.
  • Does not execute JavaScript — reads only the raw server-rendered HTML, so titles/descriptions injected client-side by JS won't be captured.
