🛡 SEC Investor Alerts Scraper

Export the SEC's investor alerts and bulletins as rows: title, whether it is an alert or a bulletin, the issuing division, the posted date, the SEC's own summary and the link. No API key, no registration, no login.

The SEC's Office of Investor Education publishes alerts when a fraud pattern is spreading, and bulletins when a rule or a product needs explaining. Both live at investor.gov, in a paginated list with no export and no feed worth reading. This Actor walks that list and writes each item into a dataset, so you can search it, archive it, or watch it on a schedule.

Who uses itWhat they use the alerts for
💼 Acquisition entrepreneurs and search fundsRecognising the pitch patterns the SEC is currently warning about, from off market deal offers to fake adviser filings
🏦 Compliance and risk teamsKeeping a dated file of alerts by division for a policy review or an audit
📐 RIAs, brokers and family officesSending clients the current warnings instead of hunting for them
📰 Researchers and financial mediaTracking what the Commission is flagging, by category and date

📋 What it does

💡 Why it matters: one of the alerts in the example below is about scammers filing as exempt reporting advisers to look legitimate. That is the exact document a buyer wants to have read before taking a cold call about a fund or a deal.

  • 🛡 Returns one row per alert or bulletin from the SEC's investor alerts library, newest first.
  • 🏷 Separates alerts from bulletins. type says which, so a warning is not filed next to an explainer.
  • 🏛 Carries the issuing division, for example Enforcement, Investment Management, so items can be routed to the right reader.
  • 🔎 Filters by category before collecting, across corporation finance, enforcement, investment management and trading and markets.
  • 📝 Includes the SEC's own summary, which usually names the scheme and who it targets.
  • 💾 Exports to CSV, Excel, JSON or XML, from the run page or the API.

📊 Output

Every alert is one flat row, with the same eight fields on every run.

✨ Why choose this Actor

What you get
The primary sourceRows come from investor.gov itself, not from a newsletter summarising it.
Alert or bulletin, labelledtype separates the fraud warnings from the educational explainers.
Filtering by divisionPull only enforcement items, or only investment management ones.
Stable columnsRun it monthly and append into one dataset without cleaning headers.
You pay per rowNo subscription. A filter that matches nothing costs nothing.

🚀 How to use it

  1. Create a free Apify account. New accounts start with $5 of credit.
  2. Open the Actor and select Try for free.
  3. Leave category empty for everything, or pick one division.
  4. Set maxItems to cap the run.
  5. Select Start, then export from the Dataset tab as CSV, Excel, JSON or XML.

A first run:

{
"maxItems": 10,
"category": ""
}

Only enforcement items, a deeper pull:

{
"maxItems": 200,
"category": "enforcement"
}

Free plan runs return up to 10 rows as a preview. Any paid Apify plan lifts that to 1,000,000 per run.

🔌 Integrate with any app

The dataset is available through the Apify API as soon as the run finishes. Use run-sync-get-dataset-items for a one-shot call, webhooks to trigger what happens next, or the Make, Zapier, Airbyte and LangChain integrations listed on the Actor page.

🤖 Use with an AI agent

Give an agent live access to the alert library over the Model Context Protocol:

$claude mcp add --transport http apify "https://mcp.apify.com?tools=acquistion-automation/sec-investor-alerts-scraper"

Then ask it in plain language what the SEC has warned about recently and have it read the summaries back.

❓ Frequently asked questions

Does this return SEC enforcement cases or company filings? No. It returns the investor alerts and bulletins published by the Office of Investor Education. Litigation releases, EDGAR filings and administrative proceedings live elsewhere on sec.gov.

What is the difference between an alert and a bulletin? An alert warns about a fraud or a risk that is active. A bulletin explains a product, a rule or a process. type tells you which one a row is.

Is the full text of the alert included? No. Each row carries the SEC's summary. The complete text sits behind url.

Why is postedDate a string like Aug 27, 2026? It is the date exactly as the SEC prints it on the page. Parse it in your spreadsheet if you need a date type. scrapedAt is already an ISO timestamp.

Do I need a proxy? No. Requests and retries are handled inside the Actor and included in the price.

What can I export? CSV, Excel, JSON and XML from the run page, or JSON straight from the API.

About Acquisition Automation Co.

We build automation for people buying businesses. The repetitive part of an acquisition search, checking listings, pulling public records, tracking owners and assets, is work a machine should do, so the buyer's time goes into judging deals instead of collecting them.
