What does Bluesky Scraper do?

Bluesky Scraper extracts public Bluesky posts from bsky.app as structured data: post text, author handle and display name, like, repost, reply and quote counts, hashtags, links, images and video, plus reply and quoted-post context. Search by keyword, filter by language or paste profile URLs, and use incremental mode to get only new posts.

Key features

  • 👀 Engagement: likeCount and replyCount show how far each post reached and how people reacted.
  • 🔁 Forwards and replies: quotedPost shows which post a quote points to and what it says.
  • #️⃣ Hashtags and mentions: text, hashtags and mentions on every post, so you can filter by topic without parsing the message.
  • 🖼️ Images: images with every image URL, not just the thumbnail.
  • 🔖 Content labels: labels carry the moderation and self-labels attached to each post.
  • 🔍 Keyword search: search bsky.app by keyword with the query input.
  • 🔗 Paste-mode: paste bsky.app URLs into startUrls to scrape exactly the pages you picked in the browser.
  • ♻️ Incremental mode: recurring runs emit and charge only for listings that are new or whose tracked content changed. First run builds the baseline; subsequent runs emit only NEW / UPDATED / REAPPEARED records (UNCHANGED + EXPIRED opt-in). Saves 80–95% on daily monitoring.
  • 🔔 Notifications: Telegram, Slack, Discord, WhatsApp Cloud API, and generic webhook out of the box. Pair with incremental for daily new-listing alerts without pipeline glue.
  • 📦 Compact mode: AI-agent and MCP-friendly payloads with core fields only.
  • 🔌 MCP connectors: export your results into Notion via Apify's MCP connectors — a clean run-summary page, no glue code. Opt-in via the App connector field; deterministic field-mapping, no AI. Built on Apify's connector framework, so more destinations open up as their catalog grows.

What data can you extract from bsky.app?

Each result includes Core post fields (type, postType, id, uri, cid, url, portalUrl, and text, and more) and extended fields (detailFetched). In standard mode, all fields are always present — unavailable data points are returned as null, never omitted. In compact mode, only core fields are returned.

Input

The main inputs are a search keyword and a result limit. Additional filters and options are available in the input schema.

Key parameters:

  • query — What to search for. Bluesky search syntax works (e.g. "climate from:nasa.gov", "#openai"). Paste a @handle, a DID or a bsky.app profile URL instead to pull that account's own posts. Required if no startUrls provided.
  • language — Optional ISO 639-1 code (e.g. "en", "da", "ja") — returns only posts written in that language. Bluesky has no location filter.
  • maxResults — Maximum total posts (0 = unlimited). (default: 100)
  • startUrls — Paste bsky.app search, profile, hashtag, post, custom-feed or list URLs. Each URL becomes its own task; results are merged and deduped across all URLs. A post URL (/profile/
  • descriptionMaxLength — Truncate each post's text to N characters. 0 = full text. (default: 0)
  • compact — Core fields only (for AI-agent/MCP workflows). (default: false)
  • excludeEmptyFields — Drop null, empty-string, and empty-array fields from each record before push. Smaller payloads for AI agents and dashboards. (default: false)
  • incrementalMode — Compare against previous run state. stateKey is optional — defaults to a value derived from your search inputs (search terms, language, startUrls) so different searches never share state. (default: false)
  • stateKey — Optional. Stable identifier for the tracked search universe. Leave empty to auto-generate from search inputs.
  • skipReposts — When incremental, skip posts whose text matches a post that disappeared in a prior run (cross-run duplicate detection). (default: false)
  • includeReplies — Keep replies in author feeds, feeds, lists and search results. Turn off to get top-level posts only. For a post URL it also decides whether the post's reply tree is delivered with the post. (default: true)
  • includeReposts — Keep native reposts (a post another account reposted) in author feeds and feeds. Turn off to see only posts the account wrote itself. (default: true)
  • ...and 17 more parameters

Input examples

Basic search — Keyword-driven search with a result cap.

→ Full payload per result — all standard fields populated where the source provides them.

{
"query": "bluesky",
"maxResults": 50
}

Incremental tracking — Only emit posts that changed since the previous run with this stateKey.

→ First run builds the baseline state. Subsequent runs emit only records that are new or whose tracked content changed. Set emitUnchanged: true to include unchanged records as well.

{
"query": "bluesky",
"maxResults": 200,
"incrementalMode": true,
"stateKey": "bluesky-tracker"
}

Compact output for AI agents — Return only core fields for AI-agent and MCP workflows.

→ Small payload with the most important fields — ideal for piping into LLMs without token overhead.

{
"query": "bluesky",
"maxResults": 50,
"compact": true
}

Output

Each run produces a dataset of structured post records. Results can be downloaded as JSON, CSV, or Excel from the Dataset tab in Apify Console.

Incremental fields

When incremental mode is on, each record also carries:

  • changeType — one of NEW, UPDATED, UNCHANGED, REAPPEARED, EXPIRED. Default output covers NEW / UPDATED / REAPPEARED; set emitUnchanged: true or emitExpired: true to opt into the others.
  • isRepost, repostOfId, repostDetectedAt — populated when a new listing matches the tracked content of a previously expired one. Set skipReposts: true to drop detected reposts from the output.
