Get newly registered US companies from four official state open data portals in one JSON schema. Each source's licence or terms were checked first, and every source is the state's own published open dataset. Secretary of State search pages are never scraped.

Personal data

This Actor is built not to return personal data:

  • No people. Registered agent, officer, member, manager, organizer and incorporator columns are never requested from the source. Oregon stores people and addresses on separate rows, and only its principal place of business rows are read.
  • No street addresses, emails or phones. A small company's address is often the owner's home, so location stops at city and ZIP code. Connecticut's email column is never requested.
  • No sole-proprietor trade names. Oregon's assumed business names are left out.
  • Names must look like a legal entity. A row is returned only if its name contains a word such as LLC, Inc, Corp, Foundation or Church. Others are dropped, which is 0 to 2 percent of rows and mostly nonprofits, and counted as nameNotConfirmed in RUN_SUMMARY. A company name that itself contains a name, such as Jane Doe LLC, is still returned as the registered name of the company.

Limitations

  • Sources update at different speeds. Connecticut and Colorado are usually a day behind, New York about a week, and Oregon publishes the previous calendar month around the middle of the next month. A registeredWithinDays under about 45 can be empty for Oregon.
  • Fields differ by state. New York has a county but no city or ZIP. Only Connecticut has an industry. About 5 percent of recent Connecticut rows have no city.
  • Only 4 states are covered. Florida's site refused an honest automated client, so its terms could not be read. Other states do not publish a licensed open dataset of new filings that could be confirmed.
  • Corrections appear late. The states can change or remove a record later. Status is what the source shows on the day of the run.
  • categories and domesticOnly are applied after reading, at most 20,000 rows per state. Use a shorter date range if the log says the limit was reached.
  • If one source is down, the run still succeeds with the others. See RUN_SUMMARY for per-source counts and errors.
  • Not affiliated with any state government. Always check the official record before relying on a registration.
