What is Google News Scraper?
Google News Scraper turns keywords, Google News topics or section links into one row per news article: headline, publisher, publish date, the real publisher URL, and optionally the full article text with word count and lead image. It covers 50+ Google News editions, from US:en and GB:en to DE:de, JP:ja and IN:en. PR teams, analysts, researchers and AI agents use it for media monitoring, news alerts and RAG pipelines, with no Google account or API key.
Why media teams use it for news monitoring
- Real article links. Turn on
decodeUrlsand each Google News link is resolved to the publisher's own URL insource_url. - Full text for AI.
extractFullTextadds the article body,word_countand lead image, ready for summaries and RAG. - Keywords, topics or sections. Search any phrase with Google operators, pick a built-in topic, or paste a Google News section link.
- Fresh news only.
timeRangenarrows results to the last hour, day, week, month or year. - Pay per article. One charge per article saved, plus a separate charge only when full text is extracted.

Output: Google News data you receive
A real row from an apple iphone search with decodeUrls on:
{"title": "Apple iOS 27.2 arrives soon: 6 new features on the way","source_name": "Mashable","source_url": "https://mashable.com/tech/apple-ios-27-2-arrives-soon-new-features","google_news_url": "https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMidEFVX3lxTE1ibHZKYVhU...?oc=5","published_at": "2026-09-30T21:51:22.000Z","description": "Apple iOS 27.2 arrives soon: 6 new features on the way Mashable","image_url": null,"search_query": "apple iphone","topic": null,"full_text": null,"word_count": null,"scraped_at": "2026-10-01T05:33:10.566Z"}
With extractFullText on, the same kind of row also carries full_text, word_count and the article's lead image in image_url.
| Field | What it contains |
|---|---|
title, source_name | Headline and publisher |
source_url | The publisher's article URL, filled when decodeUrls or extractFullText is on |
google_news_url | The Google News link for the article |
published_at | Publish time in ISO 8601 |
description | Google News summary line, which for topic feeds can list related headlines |
full_text, word_count, image_url | Article body, its length and lead image, with extractFullText |
search_query, topic | Which search or topic found the article |
scraped_at | Collection time |
OUTPUT in the default key-value store reports the run outcome, articles saved, links resolved and full texts extracted.
Example workflow: a daily press digest
A communications team tracks their company and two competitors. A scheduled task runs every morning with quoted brand names, timeRange set to 1d and extractFullText on. They group rows by source_name to see which outlets covered each brand, and send full_text to an AI model for a three-line summary per article. Then they check AI Search Brand Monitor weekly to see how the same coverage shapes AI answers about their brand.
Pricing
This Actor uses Pay per event. Apify platform usage is included in the event price. You pay one event per article saved, one extra event per article when full text is extracted, and a start event per run. The live Pricing tab on this page shows the current prices.
- 2 queries × 50 articles = 100 article events.
- Full text adds one event only for articles where text was extracted.
decodeUrlscomes at no extra event charge.maxResultsPerQuerycaps each query, so it doubles as a cost ceiling.
News research with AI agents (MCP)
Connect this Actor to an AI agent through Apify MCP and ask in plain language:
Find the ten latest news articles about solar energy in India from the past week, with publisher links and a one-line summary of each.
Agent checklist:
- Put keywords in
searchQueriesor picktopics; setregionLanguagefor the market. - Use
timeRangefor recent news and keepmaxResultsPerQueryclose to the request. - Turn on
decodeUrlswhen the user wants links, orextractFullTextwhen they want summaries. - Read rows with
get-dataset-items; readOUTPUT.outcomebefore answering.

Builder's note
I found that a news row is only useful when it points at the real article, so the Actor resolves Google News links to the publisher's own URL instead of leaving the Google redirect. I learned that most people who want full text are feeding it to an AI model, so full_text comes cleaned of menus, ads and sidebars, with word_count to filter short items.
FAQ
Do I need a Google account or API key?
No. The Actor reads Google News feeds and needs no login.
How many articles can I get per query?
Up to 100 per query or topic. Use several narrower queries or a timeRange for more coverage.
Why is source_url empty on some rows?
source_url is filled when decodeUrls or extractFullText is on. With both off, each row keeps the Google News link in google_news_url.
Why is full_text empty for some articles?
Some publishers serve article text only to signed-in readers or through scripts. Those rows keep the headline, publisher URL and metadata, and the full-text charge applies only when text was extracted.
Which countries and languages are available?
50+ Google News editions, including the US, UK, India, Germany, France, Spain, Brazil, Japan, Korea and many more.
