What is Y Combinator Scraper?

Y Combinator Scraper returns one record per company or job from YC's public company directory and jobs board. Company records have the name, batch, one-liner, description, website, team size, founding year, location, industries, stage, hiring status, social links and the YC page, plus founders and open jobs when you ask for them. Job rows have the title, role, location, job type, experience, visa, skills and the company behind it. Investors, sales teams, recruiters, job seekers and AI agents use it to research startups by batch, industry or region, with no YC account.

Why investors and sales teams use it

  • Filter like the YC directory. Batch, industry, region, team size, Top Companies, hiring and nonprofit filters.
  • Founders in the same row. scrapeFounders adds each founder's name, title, bio and LinkedIn.
  • Open roles on demand. scrapeOpenJobs adds each company's jobs; jobs mode searches the whole YC jobs board.
  • Paste any YC link. Company pages, filtered directory links and jobs links all work in startUrls.
  • Only new companies. monitoringMode returns just the companies and jobs you have not seen before.

Example workflow: a seed investor's batch review

An angel investor reviews each new batch. They use companies mode with the new batch in batches, scrapeFounders on, and minTeamSize at 2. They sort by industries to match their thesis, read oneLiner and founders[].founderBio to shortlist, and open each ycUrl before Demo Day. Then they collect emails from the shortlisted website values with Bulk Website Contact Extractor.

Pricing

This Actor uses Pay per event. Apify platform usage is included in the event price. You pay one event per company or job returned, a small extra event per founder or open job added to a company, and a start event per run. The live Pricing tab on this page shows the current prices.

  • 100 companies without founders = 100 result events.
  • 100 companies with founders = 100 result events + one small event per founder.
  • maxResults caps each run, so it doubles as a cost ceiling.

Startup research with AI agents (MCP)

Connect this Actor to an AI agent through Apify MCP and ask in plain language:

List the fintech companies from YC's last two batches that are hiring, with their founders and a one-line summary.

Agent checklist:

  1. Use mode: "companies" with batches, industries or regions; use mode: "jobs" for job questions.
  2. Turn on scrapeFounders or scrapeOpenJobs only when the user asks for founders or roles.
  3. Keep maxResults close to the request; read rows with get-dataset-items.
  4. Share ycUrl or jobUrl so the user can open each record.

API example

-H "Authorization: Bearer $APIFY_TOKEN" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"mode": "companies", "query": "developer tools", "isHiring": true, "maxResults": 25}'

Builder's note

I found that most people browsing the YC directory want to know who the founders are and whether the company is hiring, so scrapeFounders and scrapeOpenJobs add both to the company row. I learned that many users check new batches every week, so monitoringMode keeps a memory of what each task has already returned.

FAQ

Do I need a YC or Work at a Startup account?

No. The Actor reads YC's public directory and jobs pages.

How do I pick a batch?

Use the batch name as YC shows it, such as Spring 2026, Winter 2026 or Summer 2025.

Why are salaryRange and equityRange empty on some jobs?

Companies choose whether to list pay and equity. When they do, the fields are filled.

Can I get every YC company?

Yes. Leave the filters empty and raise maxResults; the directory is paged automatically.

What does monitoringMode do?

It remembers the companies and jobs returned in earlier runs of the same task, so each run returns only new ones.
