Check whether a domain's TLS/SSL certificate is about to expire and whether its website is up and responding, in one run. Run it on a schedule to catch expiring certificates before they take a site down, or connect it to Claude, Cursor or any MCP client so an AI agent can run the checks itself.

What it checks

CheckWhat you get
SSL certificate expiryExpiry date, days remaining and a valid/expired status for a domain
UptimeHTTP status code and response time for a URL
DNS recordsIPv4 and IPv6 addresses the domain resolves to
Port statusWhether a given host and port (default 443) accepts connections

How to use it

Batch mode (Apify console or API). Enter a domain (for example example.com) and a url (for example https://example.com). The run performs all four checks (certificate, uptime, DNS, port 443) and writes one result row to the dataset.

{ "domain": "example.com", "url": "https://example.com" }

MCP mode (AI agents). The Actor runs in Standby mode and exposes an MCP endpoint at /mcp with four tools: check_ssl_expiry, check_uptime, check_dns_records and check_port_status. Add the Actor's Standby URL to your MCP client and authenticate with your Apify token.

Typical uses

  • Certificate expiry alerts: schedule a daily run and trigger a webhook when days remaining drop below your threshold.
  • Uptime spot checks: verify a client site or API endpoint after a deploy.
  • Agent workflows: let an AI assistant verify a domain's certificate and DNS while debugging an outage.

Pricing (pay per event)

You are charged per check performed (SSL, uptime, DNS or port) plus a small start fee. The exact per-event prices are on the Actor's pricing tab. Set a maximum cost per run in the Apify console to cap spend.

Limits

  • Checks run from Apify's cloud, so results reflect how the site looks from there, not from inside your network.
  • Certificate checks read the certificate presented on port 443 of the domain you enter.
  • This is a point-in-time check, not continuous monitoring. Use Apify schedules for recurring checks.

FAQ

How far ahead can I see an expiry? The result reports the exact days remaining, so you can alert at 30, 14 or 7 days.

Can I check many domains? Run the Actor once per domain, or call the MCP tools repeatedly from your agent.

Something wrong? Open an issue from the Issues tab on this Actor's page with the domain and the run URL.
