Washington State EV Population Scraper

Scrape Washington State electric vehicle registration records by make, model, county, or year. Each row returns the VIN, DOL vehicle ID, electric range, base MSRP, and census tract. Export to CSV, JSON, Excel, or XML.

Washington State publishes detailed electric vehicle registration data on data.wa.gov, but the Socrata API limits you to 1,000 rows per query and requires pagination logic. This Actor reads the full dataset directly, filters by make, model, county, model year, or vehicle type as it runs, and returns every matching record in one flat schema. No API key or registration needed.

Who uses itWhat they scrape Washington State EV Population Data for
Market researchersAnalyze EV adoption rates by county and census tract across Washington.
Automotive analystsTrack which makes and models dominate the BEV and PHEV segments in the Pacific Northwest.
Policy analystsMeasure the distribution of clean alternative fuel vehicle eligibility by legislative district.
Data journalistsBuild interactive maps of electric vehicle penetration per capita by city or zip code.

What it does

This Actor collects electric vehicle registration records from Washington State's open data portal and returns each vehicle as a flat row with its VIN, location, electric specs, and eligibility flags.

  • πŸ” Make and model filters: narrow results to TESLA, NISSAN, CHEVROLET, FORD, or any exact make and model combination.
  • πŸ“ County filter: restrict records to King, Snohomish, Pierce, Spokane, or any Washington county.
  • πŸ“… Model year range: set a minimum and maximum model year to focus on recent or legacy vehicles.
  • ⚑ Vehicle type selector: choose Battery Electric (BEV), Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV), or both.
  • πŸ†” Dataset switching: pull from the main EV Population dataset or switch to monthly EV registrations by changing the resource ID.

Results export to CSV, JSON, Excel, or XML, or straight from the API.

What you can do with Washington State EV Population Data data

πŸ“ˆ Track EV adoption by region.

A market researcher runs the Actor with a county filter and a model year range to count new BEV registrations in King County year over year and decide where to site charging infrastructure.

πŸš— Compare make and model popularity.

An automotive analyst pulls all TESLA and FORD records for the last three model years, groups by model, and reports which electric trucks are gaining share in Washington.

πŸ—ΊοΈ Map clean fuel vehicle eligibility.

A policy analyst collects records with the Clean Alternative Fuel Vehicle flag set, joins census tract data, and maps eligibility density by legislative district for a state report.

πŸ’° Estimate market value by zip code.

A data journalist scrapes all records with a non-zero base MSRP, aggregates by postal code, and publishes a story on the total value of EVs registered in each Seattle neighborhood.

Why choose this scraper

Configure the run

Drive the Actor with a maximum row count and optional filters for make, model, county, model year range, and vehicle type. Filters run server-side as each record is read so only matches reach your dataset. The Input tab lists every parameter.

Troubleshooting

Why am I getting no results?

Check your filter values for exact spelling and case. Make and model filters are case-sensitive. TESLA works, tesla does not. Also verify your model year range includes years that exist in the dataset.

Why does the run stop before reaching my max items?

The Actor stops when it has read all records matching your filters. If the dataset has fewer matching vehicles than your max items setting, the run ends early with the available count.

Why are some electric range values zero?

Zero range usually means the value was not reported for that vehicle. This is common for older model years or early PHEV entries. It is not an error in the Actor.

Why do I get an error when I change the resource ID?

Make sure the resource ID is a valid Socrata dataset on data.wa.gov. The Actor expects the same column structure as the EV Population dataset. A different dataset may have incompatible fields.

FAQ

QuestionAnswer
What data does this Actor return for each vehicle? Each row includes the VIN, DOL vehicle ID, make, model, model year, electric vehicle type, electric range, base MSRP, county, city, postal code, census tract, and eligibility flags for clean alternative fuel and electric utility programs.
Can I filter by a specific make and model at the same time?Yes. Set the Make field to TESLA and the Model field to MODEL Y to return only that combination. Both filters are exact match and case-sensitive.
How many records can I collect in one run?You can set the maximum up to 1,000,000 vehicles per run. The default is 10 for a quick test. The dataset contains over 200,000 records as of early 2025.
Does this Actor need an API key or login? No. It reads directly from Washington State's open data portal at data.wa.gov. No registration, OAuth, or token is required.
Can I switch to a different Washington State dataset?Yes. Change the Dataset Resource ID to pull from any Socrata dataset on data.wa.gov. The default is the EV Population dataset (f6w7-q2d2). Try 4mse-x54r for monthly EV registrations.
What is the difference between BEV and PHEV in the vehicle type filter?BEV stands for Battery Electric Vehicle, which runs entirely on electricity. PHEV stands for Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle, which combines a battery with a gasoline engine. Use the dropdown to select one or leave it blank for both.
Can I get the data by city or zip code instead of county? The county filter is built in. For city or postal code filtering, collect the full dataset and filter in your spreadsheet or script using the City and Postal Code columns that appear in every row.
What export formats are supported? You can export your results to CSV, JSON, Excel, or XML directly from the Apify dataset tab after the run completes.
Is the electric range field always populated? The electric range is zero for some older vehicles or records where it was not reported. You can filter those out in your analysis by ignoring rows where the range is zero.
How often is the Washington State EV data updated? The state updates the dataset periodically. Each run of this Actor pulls the latest snapshot available at that moment from data.wa.gov.
