Look up Irish companies in the official CRO (Companies Registration Office) companies register.

Search by company name or CRO number and get the registered name, CRO number, company type, status, incorporation and dissolution dates, registered address with Eircode, annual-return and accounts dates and NACE code as structured JSON - the identity and standing record for verifying an Irish counterparty. Live and dissolved companies are both covered.

No API key. Results come back in seconds.

Source and freshness

Data comes from the CRO's own open-data publication of the companies register (the "Company Records" dataset, opendata.cro.ie), which the CRO refreshes daily. It usually runs 1-2 days behind the live register, so a company incorporated or dissolved yesterday may not show yet.

Every row carries dataAsOf - the date of the register data it reflects - so each answer reads "as of" that day. If the CRO's published data is ever more than 7 days old, the run's status message and every row (dataNote) say so.

What this is good for

  • KYB / onboarding - confirm an Irish company exists, its type, and that it is in Normal standing (not Dissolved, Strike Off Listed or Liquidation) before contracting.
  • Ireland is a major EU corporate, holding and multinational-HQ domicile - a huge share of tech, pharma and finance groups have Irish entities; this verifies them against the official source.
  • Compliance signals - the next annual return date, last annual return and last accounts dates flag entities that may be late filing; Strike Off Listed flags companies the CRO is about to strike off.
  • Enrichment - registered address, Eircode and NACE activity code in one call.

What is NOT included

Stated plainly:

  • No directors, shareholders or beneficial owners.
  • No filed documents / accounts. CRO sells those as paid documents.
  • No email or phone. The CRO's published company data does not include contact details.
  • Companies only. Business names, limited partnerships, industrial and provident societies and trade unions are not in the CRO's published company data. A limited partnership (LP...), reserved name (RN...), society (...R) or trade union (...T) number is skipped and not charged.

This is a verification and enrichment tool, not a full ownership profile, and it invents nothing.

What changed (October 2026)

  • Source is now the CRO's official open-data companies register - faster runs (seconds) and dissolved companies are always included.
  • Removed: registeredEmail and entityId (not in the published data); business-name matches.
  • Added: dataAsOf on every row, dissolvedDate, lastAnnualReturnDate, lastAccountsDate, naceCode, nameEffectiveDate, and a message on not-found rows.
  • Input and pricing are unchanged.

Input

FieldTypeDefaultDescription
companyNamesarray-Company names to search, each looked up separately (min 2 chars)
companyNumbersarray-CRO company numbers, digits (e.g. 104547)
maxResultsPerQueryinteger50Max records per query (up to 50)
statusFilterarray-Keep only companies whose status contains one of these words (e.g. Normal, Dissolved)

Set at least one of companyNames or companyNumbers. A run with neither ends straight away with a message saying what to set, and no search is charged.

How a name search matches: every word of the name must appear in the company name, in any order (Ryanair Holdings finds RYANAIR HOLDINGS PUBLIC LIMITED COMPANY). Legal-form words such as Ltd, PLC or DAC are optional. Exact and starts-with matches come first, live companies before dissolved ones. A number lookup returns that exact CRO number only.

Example input

{
"companyNames": ["RYANAIR"],
"statusFilter": ["Normal"],
"maxResultsPerQuery": 10
}

Billing

Charged per search, not per company - one query is one charge regardless of how many companies come back.

A search that finds nothing is still an answer, and is charged (

lookupStatus: not_found_in_register
, with message saying "no company matching ... found in the CRO companies register as of

Limitations

  • 1-2 day lag behind the live register (see dataAsOf).
  • No directors, shareholders, owners, documents or contact details (see above).
  • Companies only - no business names, partnerships or societies.
  • Up to 50 results per query - when a name matches more, the run says so; narrow the name.
  • Status and type text is the register's own (Normal, Dissolved, Strike Off Listed, ...).
  • Older records may lack an Eircode, NACE code or status date.

For Ireland specifically, pair this with a sanctions and PEP screen on the company names it returns.

GlobalAdverse media

Common combinations: company register -> UBO -> insolvency/debtors -> adverse media is the standard KYB/onboarding chain.

For Poland that whole chain is one call: Poland KYB Risk Check takes a NIP or KRS and returns identity, beneficial owners and insolvency - screened against the company and every beneficial owner - as a single verdict. The component registry lookups it runs bill as usual, plus a small orchestration fee.
