🩺 Healthcare Provider Leads from the Official NPI Registry

One search β€” specialty: dentist, city: Austin, state: TX β€” returns a consolidated lead list of US doctors, dentists and clinics: NPI, specialty, license, practice address, phone and fax straight from the CMS NPPES registry, plus emails, extra phones, social profiles and tech stack enriched live from each practice's website. For medical marketing agencies, healthcare B2B sales and recruiters. Pricing: $0.005 per basic provider (registry data), $0.02 per lead delivered with email, ~$0.01 run start. 100 dentists with 12 emails β‰ˆ $0.69.

The data source is the point

Most "doctor lead lists" are resold spreadsheets that decay from the day they're exported. This Actor queries the NPPES / NPI Registry β€” the public dataset the US Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services maintains for provider identification β€” at run time. That means:

  • Every row is anchored to an NPI, the official US provider identifier.
  • Name, taxonomy/specialty, license number + state, practice address, phone and fax are as accurate as CMS records, not guessed or scraped from directories.
  • Specialty input takes plain words β€” dentist, dermatologist, pediatrician, chiropractor, cardiologist, physical therapist β€” and maps them to NPPES taxonomy codes automatically.

Then a second stage (skippable) finds each provider's website and checks its homepage, contact and about pages for emails, additional phones, social links and tech stack, merging everything into one row per provider with an emailFound flag.

Example run

Input (console prefill):

{
"specialty": "dentist",
"city": "Austin",
"state": "TX",
"maxResults": 20,
"enrichEmails": true,
"onlyWithEmail": false,
"maxPagesPerSite": 3,
"includeGenericEmails": true
}

Useful switches: onlyWithEmail: true keeps (and bills) only fully enriched leads; enrichEmails: false returns registry-only rows β€” faster, cheaper, still phone-verified at the source. Whole-state searches: leave city empty, raise maxResults; pagination is automatic.

What it costs, honestly

EventPrice
Run start (per GB memory, 2 GB default)$0.005/GB
Provider without email (registry data)$0.005
Lead with email$0.02

500 dermatologists across a state with 60 emails β‰ˆ $3.41. Healthcare lead databases typically charge $0.05–$0.25 per contact for older data. Also honest: practices commonly hide email behind web forms, so emails land for a meaningful minority of providers (varies by specialty/area). That's why non-email rows bill at a quarter of the price β€” and they still carry registry-verified phone, address, specialty and license.

Who builds lists with this

  • Dental/medical marketing agencies β€” pitch websites, SEO, ads and patient acquisition to practices by specialty + city.
  • Healthcare SaaS and suppliers β€” EHR, practice management, billing, equipment: target exactly your buyer's taxonomy.
  • Recruiters β€” source providers by specialty and location with license data attached.
  • AI agents / automations β€” callable via the Apify API and MCP server from Claude, n8n, Make or Zapier for on-demand agentic prospecting.

Compliance, plainly

Only public information is collected: NPPES is published by CMS as a public dataset, and website enrichment reads only the business contact details practices publish to be reached. No login-protected, private or patient data is ever touched. You're responsible for lawful outreach in your jurisdiction (CAN-SPAM, TCPA, CASL, GDPR) β€” this is B2B contact data for professional contact, never for targeting patients.

FAQ

How do I get a list of doctors or dentists with email addresses? Run this Actor with a specialty + location. Registry data supplies the verified identity and phone; the enrichment stage adds emails where practices publish them. Filter emailFound: true or set onlyWithEmail to keep only emailed leads.

Does it cover countries outside the US? No β€” NPPES is the US provider registry. Search by US state, city or ZIP.

Why doesn't every provider have an email? Most practices use contact forms instead of published emails. Rows without email are billed at the low basic rate and remain valuable: their phone/address/license come from CMS, not a website.

Is this HIPAA-relevant or patient data? No. It's provider business-contact data from a public federal registry plus public practice websites. No patient or protected health information exists anywhere in the pipeline.

How fresh is the data? It's queried live from NPPES at run time and enriched from the current website β€” nothing is served from a stored list.

What happens when a search matches nothing? The run succeeds with an empty dataset. Broaden the specialty or area. Registry/page errors are logged separately under NPPES_FAILURES in the key-value store, never mixed into your leads.

Can I search an entire state? Yes β€” omit city, set state + specialty, raise maxResults. The Actor paginates the registry automatically (200 per request internally).

Can I enrich providers I already have from elsewhere? If you have their domains, run them through the Website Contact Finder β€” it's the same enrichment engine as stage 2 here, usable standalone.
