Domain Expiry Checker: RDAP Domain Expiration & Status Monitor

Bulk-check when your domains expire and get alerted before they lapse or when something changes. For each domain you get the expiration date, days left, registrar, EPP status codes (e.g. clientTransferProhibited), nameservers and DNSSEC, straight from the official RDAP service of the domain's registry (RDAP is the modern, structured replacement for WHOIS). No API key needed.

Use it to:

  • ⏰ Never lose a domain. Schedule it weekly with expiringWithinDays: 30 and send the result to e-mail or Slack.
  • 🏢 Audit a domain portfolio for agencies, IT teams and brand-protection: registrar, transfer locks, DNSSEC and nameservers in one table.
  • 🛡️ Detect hijacks and unexpected changes. onlyChanges reports domains whose registrar, status, nameservers or expiry changed since the last run.
  • 🔎 Check availability of candidate names: unregistered domains come back as registered: false.

Why this Actor:

  • Uses the IANA RDAP bootstrap to query each domain's authoritative registry (Verisign for .com/.net, PIR for .org, Nominet for .uk, and 500+ other TLDs), not a scraped WHOIS site.
  • Polite by design: at most 1 request per second to each registry server, Retry-After / HTTP 429 honoured.
  • Registration data only. Registrant, admin, tech and billing contacts are never output, only the registrar's organisation name and IANA ID.

How much does it cost?

You pay per event: a small fee per run start plus a fee per domain row returned. With expiringWithinDays or onlyChanges you pay only for the domains that need attention.

Example inputs

Check a list of domains:

{ "domains": ["apify.com", "example.org", "bbc.co.uk"] }

Weekly renewal alert, only domains expiring within 30 days:

{ "domains": ["mybrand.com", "mybrand.net", "mybrand.co.uk"], "expiringWithinDays": 30 }

Change / hijack monitor for one client's portfolio:

{ "domains": ["client-a.com", "client-a.io"], "onlyChanges": true, "stateKey": "client-a" }

Output (one row per domain)

domain, rdapServer, registered, registrar, registrarIanaId, statuses, createdAt, updatedAt, expiresAt, daysUntilExpiry, expiringSoon, nameservers, dnssecSigned, changedFields, firstCheck, checkedAt, error

Notes

  • Data comes from the registry. Some ccTLDs (for example .io, .de) have no RDAP service in the IANA bootstrap yet; those rows get an error explaining this.
  • Some registries do not publish an expiration date over RDAP; expiresAt is then empty.
  • Registrant personal data is not collected. This Actor is not affiliated with IANA or any registry.
