Pain points

  • Copart's search shows lots page by page in a browser, so building a list of hundreds of lots to compare means copying them by hand.
  • Screening for margin means comparing repair cost against retail value lot by lot.
  • Spotting the lots that appeared overnight, or whose Buy It Now price dropped, means re-running the same search and diffing it yourself.
  • Finding which insurers consign which vehicles where takes a seller filter the site does not offer.

What we solve

  • One row per open lot with damage, title, odometer, estimated retail value, repair cost, current high bid, Buy It Now price, auction date, yard and seller.
  • repair_to_value_ratio on every lot that has both values, so a spreadsheet sort shows the cheapest repairs first.
  • Monitor mode remembers each search's last run and returns only new lots and lots whose high bid or Buy It Now price moved, with change_type.
  • Filters for insurance-company sellers and for named sellers (State Farm, GEICO, USAA, Allstate...), plus make, model, year, damage, title, state, yard, sale dates and mileage.
  • A refused or unanswered search comes back as a free "blocked" row, never as "no lots", and is not charged.

Summary

Search Copart's open salvage and clean-title inventory the way Copart's own search does, and get one row per lot: lot number, year, make, model and trim, the VIN as Copart shows it (last six characters masked), odometer and its status, primary and secondary damage, title document and title group, condition (Run and Drive, Engine Start), Copart's estimated retail value and repair cost with the repair-to-value ratio worked out, the current high bid, the Buy It Now price where offered, the sale status, the auction date, the yard with its city, state, ZIP and coordinates, the seller where Copart names it, whether an insurance company consigned the lot, and a thumbnail and link to the lot. Filter by keyword, make, model, years, damage, title type, vehicle type, state, yard, sale dates, mileage, Buy It Now, Run and Drive, insurance sellers and named sellers (State Farm, GEICO, USAA...). Switch to Monitor and the same search, run on a schedule, returns only the lots that are new since its last run or whose high bid or Buy It Now price moved, each marked with what changed. Data comes from Copart's public search, with no login and no member account.

Who it's for

  • Vehicle exporters and importers sourcing salvage cars for overseas markets
  • Rebuilders and body shops looking for repairable lots near them
  • Used-car and parts dealers watching for specific makes, models and damage types
  • Auto auction brokers building daily lot feeds for their buyers
  • Insurance and salvage analysts tracking which insurers consign which vehicles where

How to use

This actor does two jobs. Run it, then collect results from the run's dataset (export to JSON/CSV/Excel, or pull via the Apify API).

FieldRequiredTypeDefaultDescription
modenostring"export"Export: every open lot your search matches. Monitor: the same search, but only lots that are new since this search's last run, or whose high bid or buy-now price moved, each with change_type. Schedule a monitor daily for a new-lots feed; its first run returns every lot as new.
queriesnoarray[]Optional, one search per line, matched the way Copart's own search box matches (honda civic, f150 4x4, a lot number). Every word in a line must match. Each line is its own search; a lot found by two is returned once. Empty means every open lot that passes the filters below.
querynostring—One search, for saved tasks and API calls that send a single value. Use the list above for several.
makesnoarray[]Copart make names, one per line (Toyota, Honda, Ford). Any of them matches.
modelsnoarray[]Copart model or model-group names, one per line (Camry, F150, Civic). Any of them matches. Best with a make.
yearFromnointeger—Oldest model year to include.
yearTonointeger—Newest model year to include.
damageTypesnoarray[]One per line, any of them matches: All Over, Biohazard/Chemical, Burn, Burn - Engine, Burn - Interior, Damage History, Frame Damage, Front End, Hail, Mechanical, Minor Dent/Scratches, Missing/Altered VIN, Normal Wear, Partial Repair, Rear End, Rejected Repair, Replaced VIN, Rollover, Side, Stripped, Top/Roof, Undercarriage, Unknown, Vandalism, Water/Flood. Other values are ignored with a free note.
titleTypesnoarray[]One per line, any of them matches: Clean, Salvage, Non-Repairable (Copart's title groups).
vehicleTypesnoarray[]One per line, any of them matches: Automobiles, SUVs, Pickup Trucks, Motorcycle, ATVs, Boats, Bus, Construction Equipment, Dirt Bikes, Heavy Duty Trucks, Industrial Equipment, Jet Skis, Medium Duty Box Trucks, RVs, Snowmobile, Trailers, Agriculture and Farm Equipment.
statesnoarray[]Two-letter codes of the yard's state or province, one per line (CA, TX, FL, ON). Any of them matches.
yardsnoarray[]Copart yard names exactly as Copart writes them, one per line (CA - SUN VALLEY, TX - HOUSTON). Any of them matches.
saleDateFromnostring—YYYY-MM-DD. Only lots whose auction is on or after this day (UTC). Lots not yet scheduled have no sale date and drop out when this is set.
saleDateTonostring—YYYY-MM-DD. Only lots whose auction is on or before this day (UTC).
maxOdometernointeger—Only lots with an odometer reading up to this many miles.
buyNowOnlynobooleanfalseOnly lots with a Buy It Now price.
runAndDriveOnlynobooleanfalseOnly lots Copart lists as Run and Drive.
insuranceSellersOnlynobooleanfalseOnly lots consigned by insurance companies (Copart's own seller-type filter). Every row also carries insurance_seller either way.
sellersnoarray[]Seller company names, one per line (State Farm, GEICO, USAA, Allstate, Farmers). A name matches sellers that start with it. Any of them matches. Copart filters on the seller even where its lot page does not name it, so seller_name can be empty on a row this filter matched.
maxResultsnointeger100Cap for EACH keyword line (or for the whole filter set when no keyword is given), in Copart's order: soonest sale first. In Monitor mode it is how many lots are watched; only the new or changed ones among them are returned.
proxyConfigurationnoobject{"useApifyProxy": false}Off by default. If a run comes back with a 'blocked' row, turn on a proxy. Included in the price.

Pricing (Pay Per Event)

You pay per result (lot) — no charge for empty runs. Example: 1000 lots at $0.01/result ≈ $10.00.

Monitor mode is charged per new or changed lot delivered instead: $0.01 each (event "New or changed lot"); lots that did not change since the last run are not delivered and not charged. Compute and proxy are included; you pay only these events.

Use cases

  • Exporters: every clean or salvage Toyota and Honda with front-end damage in Texas and Florida, with repair cost vs estimated retail value, to shortlist lots before the auction.
  • Rebuilders: a daily Monitor run for Run and Drive lots under 80,000 miles at the two nearest yards, delivering only the lots added since yesterday.
  • Brokers: a Buy It Now watch on a buyer's wish list that flags each lot whose Buy It Now price changed since the last run.
  • Analysts: insurance-seller lots by yard and damage type, to see which insurers consign which vehicles where.

Why this actor

  • repair_to_value_ratio is worked out on every lot that lists both a repair cost and an estimated retail value.
  • Monitor mode returns only new and changed lots, so a scheduled run is a feed, not a full re-download.
  • Seller and insurance-seller filters, and an insurance_seller flag on every row.

Limitations & updates

Open lots only, as Copart's public search lists them at the moment of the run: no sold prices, no bid history, no full VIN (Copart masks the last six characters) and one thumbnail per lot, not the photo gallery. Repair cost and estimated retail value are Copart's own figures and are missing on some lots (repair cost was listed on 595 of 1,000 lots on 2026-11-07). The seller is named only where Copart names it. Lot links open copart.com, which may ask a browser to pass its security check first. Copart's US search is covered, which also lists its Canadian yards.

FAQ

Does it return sold prices?

No. Copart's public search lists open lots only, and Copart does not publish what lots sell for. high_bid is the lot's current high bid at the time of the run, not a sale price.

Is the VIN complete?

No. Copart's public search masks the last six characters of the VIN (for example 3KPF44AC0ME******), and the rows keep it exactly as shown. Use lot_number as the key.

How does Monitor mode work?

Set Mode to Monitor and save the search as a task with a schedule (daily is common). Each run compares the lots it reads with the lots the same search returned on its last run and delivers only lots that are new, or whose high bid or Buy It Now price changed, with change_type new, bid_change or price_change and the previous value. The first run delivers every lot as new. A run where nothing moved returns one free note saying so. Changing any filter starts a new monitor.

How many lots can it export?

Copart listed 449,171 open lots on 2026-11-07, and its search pages through all of them 100 at a time. Maximum lots per search caps each keyword line, soonest sale first. Measured 2026-11-07, run outside Apify through one proxy: 1,000 lots in 13 seconds.

How does the seller filter work?

Type seller company names (State Farm, GEICO, USAA, Allstate, Farmers); each matches sellers whose name starts with it, using Copart's own seller filter. Copart names the seller on only some lots (210 of the first 1,000 on 2026-11-07), so seller_name can be empty on a lot the filter matched. Insurance-company sellers only uses Copart's seller-type filter, and every row carries insurance_seller.

What if Copart does not answer?

Each request is retried. If Copart still refuses (its firewall answers a challenge page) or does not answer, the lots read so far are delivered and a free row with notice_type "blocked" says so, so a monitor never reads a failed run as "no new lots". Turning on a proxy is the fix if it keeps happening.

Guides & use cases

Written up on scrapebench.dev — the bench that runs and verifies this actor against the live source every night:

Works with AI assistants (MCP)

Callable as an MCP tool, so Claude, Cursor, VS Code Copilot and other MCP clients can run it directly. Grab the config from the MCP tab on this page — Apify hosts the server and keeps that snippet current, and OAuth signs you in on first connect, so no API token goes in your config file.

Then just ask:

"List 100 open Copart lots of Toyotas in Texas that have a Buy It Now price, with repair cost against estimated retail value."

Start with Maximum lots at 100, then add the damage, title and year filters you buy on. Runs started this way bill exactly like any other run.
