What it does

The actor reads the US Senate and House Lobbying Disclosure Act (LDA) database, applies the filters you pass as input, and writes one normalized record per report to the run's dataset. Choose between lobbying reports (who lobbies for whom, for how much, on what issues, naming each lobbyist) and the separate political-contribution reports that lobbyists and firms must file twice a year. Missing source values are returned as null, and derived flags (hasRevolvingDoorLobbyist, hasForeignEntity, isInHouseLobbying, and counts) are computed on top of the raw fields so you can filter without extra parsing.

Data covers filings back to 1999. Filter by client, firm, lobbyist, issue text, former government position (revolving door), amount, country, and more.

Quickstart

Open the actor, paste this into the input, and press Run. It returns up to 15 Q3 2025 lobbying reports worth 500,000 USD or more, from outside firms with a published contact phone.

"filingType": "Q3",
"minAmount": 500000,
"onlyWithContactPhone": true,

}

Every input field is optional. With an empty input the actor returns current-year lobbying reports.

Run via API and CLI

Start a run and wait for it to finish, then read the dataset. Replace <TOKEN> with your Apify API token.

Run synchronously and get dataset items in one call:

curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/scrapers_lat~us-lobbying-disclosures-scraper/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=<TOKEN>" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"dataset":"filings","clientName":"OpenAI","filingYears":["2025"],"maxResults":50}'

Start a run asynchronously:

curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/scrapers_lat~us-lobbying-disclosures-scraper/runs?token=<TOKEN>" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"dataset":"filings","issueText":"artificial intelligence","onlyRevolvingDoor":true,"maxResults":200}'

Apify CLI:

apify call scrapers_lat/us-lobbying-disclosures-scraper \
--input '{"dataset":"contributions","filingYears":["2025"],"onlyWithContributions":true}'

Fetch results

Every run writes to a dataset. Fetch items as JSON, CSV, or Excel by changing format:

# JSON
curl "https://api.apify.com/v2/datasets/<DATASET_ID>/items?token=<TOKEN>&clean=true&format=json"
# CSV
curl "https://api.apify.com/v2/datasets/<DATASET_ID>/items?token=<TOKEN>&clean=true&format=csv"
# Paginate large datasets
curl "https://api.apify.com/v2/datasets/<DATASET_ID>/items?token=<TOKEN>&offset=1000&limit=1000"

<DATASET_ID> is returned as defaultDatasetId in the run object. Use offset and limit to page through large result sets. clean=true drops empty and internal fields.

Billing and limits

  • Pay per result. You are charged per record returned (result event). See the pricing tab for the current per-result price.
  • No charge on failure. If a run errors, the actor writes a single item with a populated error field and does not charge for it. Empty runs cost nothing.
  • Spend cap respected. Set maxTotalChargeUsd on the run; once reached, the actor stops emitting and charging further billable results.
  • Free Apify plans are capped at 10 records per run. Upgrade for higher maxResults.

FAQ and troubleshooting

What is the difference between the two datasets? filings returns lobbying reports (firms, clients, fees, lobbyists, issues). contributions returns the separate political-contribution reports that lobbyists and firms file twice a year.

How do I find revolving-door lobbyists? Set onlyRevolvingDoor to true, or search coveredPosition for a job title like Chief of Staff. Matches are reported in revolvingDoorLobbyists.

How do I surface foreign-backed lobbying? Set onlyWithForeignEntities to true, or filter by clientCountry. Disclosed foreign entities appear in foreignEntities.

A run returned 0 records. Why? The filter combination matched nothing. Loosen filters, widen filingYears, or clear name filters. Zero-result runs are not charged.

Why are the contribution fields empty? They only populate when dataset is contributions. Lobbying reports leave them absent.

Is this an official government tool? No. This actor is independent and has no affiliation with the US Senate, House, or Clerk. It reads only publicly available Lobbying Disclosure Act filings.
