How to look up CNPJs in 3 steps

Invalid or unknown CNPJs return an item with an error field, and you are not charged for them. Every field is documented in the Output tab.

More questions

Which CNPJ formats are accepted?

Any mix of 00.000.000/0001-91, 00000000000191 or text with spaces: everything except digits and letters is removed before the lookup. The new alphanumeric CNPJ (letters in the first 12 characters, numeric check digits) is validated with the official modulo-11 rule. Repeated CNPJs in the same run are looked up and charged once.

What happens with a CNPJ that has a typo?

The check digits are verified before any request. A CNPJ with wrong digits or format returns an item with error: "Invalid CNPJ (wrong format or check digits)" and is not charged.

Does it return the headquarters or the branch?

Exactly the establishment you send. Each CNPJ (the 4 digits after the slash identify the establishment) is a separate record, and isHeadquarters tells you whether it is the head office (0001 is usually the head office). To get a branch, send its full CNPJ.

How fresh is the data?

Each CNPJ is read live from Minha Receita at run time, which republishes the open CNPJ files of the Receita Federal. Freshness therefore follows those monthly public files, not the real-time Receita website. fetchedAt records when your item was read.

Are partners' CPFs shown?

No. The open registry publishes partners' CPFs masked (only the middle digits, e.g. ***123456**), and the Actor returns them exactly as published in maskedDocument. Turn off Include partners if you do not need the QSA at all.

How many CNPJs can I look up per run?

Up to 500 per run (extra ones are ignored with a warning). The Actor waits a quarter of a second between lookups to respect the free source, so 500 CNPJs take a few minutes. For more, split the list into several runs or schedule them.

What do the red flags mean?

NOT_ACTIVE (status other than ATIVA), OPENED_LESS_THAN_1_YEAR, ZERO_SHARE_CAPITAL, NO_PARTNERS_LISTED and NO_CONTACT_DATA (no phone and no e-mail). They are computed only from the registry fields in the item, as screening hints; they are not a credit score or legal opinion.

What if the source is down?

The Actor retries up to 3 times on network errors, HTTP 429 and 5xx. If it still fails, the CNPJ comes back with an error such as Source unavailable (HTTP 503) and is not charged, so you can simply run those again.
