Google Trends Trending Search Scraper extracts the live "Trending now" list from Google Trends for one or many countries. Pick countries or paste Google Trends URLs, choose a time window, and get one row per trending term with search volume, growth percentage, categories, related queries and related news. Free plan users pay $0.005 per saved trend, and Gold users pay $0.0035.

Use it for trending keyword research, newsjacking, content ideas and media monitoring, without copying lists by hand.

  • ๐Ÿ” Trending keyword research: find terms that are rising today and check their volume and growth before you write about them.
  • ๐Ÿ“ฐ Newsjacking: see the news articles linked to each trend, with headline, source and publish time.
  • ๐Ÿ’ก Content ideas: build a daily list of topics for blogs, newsletters, videos and a social media content calendar.
  • ๐Ÿ“ก Media monitoring: compare trending searches between countries and watch how a story spreads.
  • โฐ Trend tracking on autopilot: run the Actor on a schedule and keep a fresh trending searches report in your own tools.

Because it runs on Apify, you also get the API, scheduling, webhooks, integrations and export to JSON, CSV, Excel, XML or HTML.

  • ๐ŸŒ Scrape trending searches by country: choose from 55 countries in the picker or add any other two-letter code.
  • ๐Ÿ”— Accept Google Trends URLs in bulk: the country, time window, language and category are read from each URL.
  • ๐Ÿ• Pick a time window: past 4 hours, 24 hours, 48 hours or 7 days.
  • ๐Ÿ”– Filter by category: keep only trends in the categories you choose, such as Sports, Technology or Politics.
  • ๐Ÿ”€ Sort the list: Google's own order, highest volume, most recent or biggest growth.
  • ๐Ÿ“ฆ Add related queries and news: attach related search terms and the news articles linked to each trend.

Every trending term becomes one dataset row. The fields below are saved for each row.

Note: trend_volume and trend_volume_raw are empty when no volume is available, and trend_delta_percent can be empty too. News fields are empty when News is Off or a trend has no articles. trend_end is empty while a trend is still active.

  • Search interest over time for a chosen keyword, regional interest or comparison charts from Google Trends Explore.
  • Exact search counts. Volume is the rounded label shown for each trend, such as 200K+.

  1. Create a free Apify account.
  2. Open Google Trends Trending Search Scraper.
  3. Select one or more countries, or paste Google Trends URLs into startUrls.
  4. Choose a timeframe and, if you want, one or more categories.
  5. Set maxItems for how many trends to save per country, and pick a newsMode.
  6. Click Start and wait for the run to finish.
  7. Open the Output tab and download your data in JSON, CSV, Excel, XML or HTML.

Google Trends Trending Search Scraper uses pay-per-event pricing: you pay for each trend saved to the dataset, and the price falls on higher Apify plans. Platform usage is billed in addition.

Apify planPrice per trendPrice per 1,000 trends
๐Ÿ†“ Free$0.005$5.00
๐Ÿฅ‰ Bronze$0.0045$4.50
๐Ÿฅˆ Silver$0.004$4.00
๐Ÿฅ‡ Gold$0.0035$3.50

Each run also adds one start event of $0.00005 per GB of memory, with a minimum of one. At the default 1 GB of memory, that is one event, or $0.00005.

Worked example. Four countries with maxItems set to 25 save 100 trends. On the Free plan that is 100 x $0.005 = $0.50, plus the $0.00005 start event and platform usage.

Free plan math. The $5 monthly credit on the Apify Free plan covers about 1,000 trends at the Free price ($5 / $0.005), before platform usage.

See the pricing tab for all events.

You can start for free. The Apify Free plan includes a $5 monthly credit, which covers about 1,000 trends at $0.005 each before platform usage. Only rows saved to the dataset are charged, and you can set a maximum spend per run.

Input

Nothing is strictly required, but each run needs at least one country or Google Trends URL. The default input collects 25 trends for the United States over the past 24 hours.

"countries": ["US"],
"extraCountryCodes": [],

}

All other fields use their defaults. See the input schema for the full description of every field.

startUrls

Paste Google Trends Trending now URLs, one per line. The country (geo), time window (hours), language (hl) and category are read from each URL and win over the matching fields for that URL.

  • โœ… Good: https://trends.google.com/trending?geo=GB&hours=48
  • โŒ Bad: https://example.com/trending?geo=GB (not a Google Trends URL, so it is skipped)
  • โŒ Bad: https://trends.google.com/trending (no country code, so it is skipped)

Warning: A URL and a country that describe the same country, window, language and categories are collected once, not twice.

categories

Categories are numeric ids passed as strings, such as "17" for Sports or "18" for Technology. A trend is kept when it belongs to at least one of your categories.

  • โœ… Good: ["17", "18"]
  • โŒ Bad: ["Sports"] (names are not ids, and a name that is not a number is ignored)

Warning: A strict category filter on a short window such as 4 hours can return few or no trends.

maxItems and newsLimit

maxItems is applied per country after sorting, and each saved row is one charged result. newsLimit only controls how many of those trends get news articles.

  • โœ… Good: "maxItems": 25, "sortBy": "volume" saves the 25 highest-volume trends per country.
  • โŒ Bad: "maxItems": 0 with many countries on the 7-day window when you only want a sample, because every returned trend is saved and charged.

Output

Results appear in the run's dataset, in the Output and Storage tabs. You can view them as a table, choose fields, and download them in JSON, CSV, Excel, XML or HTML. The dataset has five table views: Overview, Volume and Momentum, Related search terms, Related news and Timing and source. Each run also saves a RUN-SUMMARY record in the key-value store with totals and any countries that could not be collected.

Notes and limitations

  • Each country returns the number of trends Google lists for the chosen window, so a wider window returns more terms.
  • With newsMode set to rss, news items also include a snippet field and have no publish time.
  • If a country cannot be collected, the other countries still finish and the failure is listed in RUN-SUMMARY.

Tips and advanced usage

The number depends on the country, the time window and your filters. The past 4 hours gives a short list, while 7 days can return hundreds. A quick test run with a small maxItems shows the scale for your case.

How to get faster or cheaper results

  • Set newsMode to off for the fastest run, or rss for a quick headline pass.
  • Lower newsLimit and maxItems to save fewer rows and enrich fewer trends.
  • Turn off includeRelatedTerms for slimmer rows.
  • Keep the default requestsPerSecond unless you have a reason to change it.
  • ๐Ÿ“… Daily routine: schedule one run each morning as a Google Trends daily scraper, and track trending searches daily in a sheet.
  • ๐Ÿš€ Spot momentum: sort by growth to see rising searches first, and rank trending searches by growth percentage and search volume.
  • ๐ŸŒ Compare markets: find trending topics for each country and look up trending searches today by country.
  • ๐Ÿ“ฐ Add context: open trending searches with related news articles for every term, in different languages, since trending searches follow your chosen language.
  • ๐Ÿ“ค Export: export trending searches to a spreadsheet or Excel, a Google Trends alternative to manual export from the page.
  • ๐Ÿ”“ No key needed: use Google Trends without an API key or login.

It answers what is trending on Google right now and supports trend discovery for content research with real-time trending keywords. Teams call it a Google Trends data extractor or a Google Trends downloader. Others look for a Google Trends top searches scraper or a Google Trends trending topics scraper. The past 4 hours window gives Google Trends real time trends, and sorting by growth surfaces Google Trends rising searches. Pick Google Trends past 4 hours for a breaking story or Google Trends past 7 days trending for a weekly view. Use the Google Trends trending now past 24 hours window for a daily view. Filter trending searches by category to keep a scheduled trending searches report focused, and use the output for content ideas and a social media content calendar.

Integrations and API

Can I use this Actor as an API?

Yes. The Apify API lets you start runs, schedule them and fetch results, so you can use it as a Google Trends trending keywords API from your own code. Use the apify-client package for Node.js or Python. The API tab has ready-to-use code.

from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("<YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN>")
run = client.actor("data_minds/google-trends-trending-search-scraper").call(
run_input={
"startUrls": ["https://trends.google.com/trending?geo=US&hl=en-US&hours=24"],
"countries": ["US"],
"extraCountryCodes": [],
"categories": [],
"proxyConfiguration": {"useApifyProxy": False},
}
)
for item in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
print(item["term"], item["trend_volume"])

Can I integrate this Actor with other apps?

Yes. Connect it with Make, Zapier, Google Sheets, Slack and more through Apify integrations. Use webhooks to trigger an action when a run finishes, and schedule runs to keep a daily trending report fresh.

Yes. Open the MCP tab for setup steps to connect the Actor to Claude and other MCP clients.

FAQ

Scraping publicly available data is generally legal, but you should respect personal data rules and the site's terms. Trending searches are aggregated topics, not personal profiles. This is not legal advice, so read Is web scraping legal? and check your own use case.

You choose countries or Google Trends URLs, a time window, optional categories and a maximum number of trends. The Actor then builds a dataset with one row per trending term, with volume, growth, related queries and news. Rows appear in your dataset while the run is still going.

Trending lists show what people search for right now. Editors use them for newsjacking, marketers for content ideas and trending keyword research, and analysts for media monitoring across countries. Saving the list on a schedule also lets you see which topics repeat and which fade within hours.

Why am I getting fewer results than expected?

Google decides how many trends exist for each country and time window, so a short window or a small country returns fewer. A category filter removes trends outside your categories, and maxItems caps each country. Widen the window, clear the category filter or raise maxItems.

Yes. To export Google Trends trending now results to CSV or Excel, open the Output tab when the run finishes and download the dataset. JSON, XML and HTML work too, and you can choose fields, so a spreadsheet holds only the term, volume, growth and country.

Yes. Select several countries, add other two-letter codes in extraCountryCodes, or paste several URLs in startUrls. Each country is collected independently, so one country failing does not stop the others. The maxItems limit applies to each country separately, which keeps a multi-country sweep predictable in size and cost.

This Actor is not an official Google product, but it works as a Trending now API for your own tools. Start a run and read the dataset through the Apify API, with volume, growth, related queries and news in every row.

The Actor is not working. What should I do?

First check that your country codes and URLs are valid and that your filters are not too strict. If the problem remains, open a ticket on the Issues tab with your run link, and we will look into it.
