What does Reddit Search & Brand Monitoring do?

It searches all of Reddit for your keywords, brand names or competitors and returns every matching post (title, full text, score, upvote ratio, comment count, subreddit, author, flair, media) or every comment that uses your words. Sort by relevance, new, top or most comments, pick any period from the past hour to all time, search all of Reddit or one subreddit, and run it on a schedule to catch new mentions. No login, no browser, no cookies.

These are real rows from the prefilled run (searches "Shopify" and "WooCommerce", relevance, past week, 50 posts each):

What can you search on Reddit with it?

  • Posts that match your words, all of Reddit or one subreddit, in Reddit's sorts: Relevance, New, Top, Most comments, Hot.
  • Comments that use your words anywhere on Reddit (set Search for to Comments): each with its author, score, time, post and subreddit. This is how most brand mentions happen, inside other people's threads.
  • Communities (with their rules, weekly visitors and contributions) and users that match a word.
  • The comments of the posts found, if you want the whole conversation (Include comments).
  • Reddit search links you already have (reddit.com/search/?q=...): each keeps its own sort, period and type.

Use cases

  • Brand monitoring: what people say about your product this week, in posts and in comments, with scores to see what took off.
  • Competitor research: complaints and praise for a rival ("Shopify reserve", "alternative to Mailchimp") straight from users.
  • Lead generation: people asking for a tool like yours ("best CRM for startups", "looking for a Shopify developer").
  • PR and crisis alerts: a daily scheduled run with sort New and Posted after "1 day" returns only fresh mentions.
  • Market research and AI datasets: real opinions on any topic, with full text and engagement numbers.

How much does it cost to search Reddit?

You pay per result in your dataset: a post, a comment, a user or a community, all at the same price.

Apify planPrice per 1,000 results

A post that several of your search terms find is charged once per run. Results your filters skip are free. There's no start fee, and the run stops at your spending limit.

Input

The prefill searches "Shopify" and "WooCommerce" over the past week and keeps 50 posts each. To change it:

  • Search terms: one per line. Each term is its own search; Reddit matches the words in titles and post text (and in comments with Search for Comments).
  • Search for: posts, comments, communities or users.
  • Sort and Period: for monitoring, use New with a short period; for research, Relevance or Top.
  • Match: Reddit's match (the default) keeps whatever Reddit's search finds. Every word keeps a post only when its title and text hold every word of the search term (a comment, when its text does), in any order; Exact phrase needs the words in a row. Results that don't match aren't delivered and aren't charged. For example, a post search for "crm recommendation" over the past year (October 20, 2026): of Reddit's first 30 results, 4 held both words (most say "recommendations"); Exact phrase read through Reddit's 244 results and kept the 16 that hold the phrase.
  • Max results per search term: Reddit stops a post search at about 250 per sort; Maximize coverage (under More ways to search) also reads it in other sorts and periods and merges them without duplicates.
  • Below the first screen: one subreddit only, Reddit search links, Filters (dates, minimum score, NSFW), the comments of the posts found, and Advanced (a total cap for the run, comment depth and sort, proxy).

Output

Every row goes to one dataset, where dataType says what it is: post, comment, community or user. The Output tab has a table for each (posts with a stats view) and one with everything. input and searchQuery tell you which of your search terms found the row. Download as JSON, CSV, Excel or HTML, or read it through the Apify API.

A comment found by searching comments for "HubSpot" (shortened):

{
"dataType": "comment",
"id": "t1_peapj54",
"url": "https://www.reddit.com/r/recruitinghell/comments/1wz7lvw/this_is_why_we_cant_get_jobs/peapj54/",
"body": "HubSpot always operated on the \"hire, churn, burn, and discard fresh college grads\" model. ...",
"upVotes": 3,
"createdAt": "2026-10-06T20:41:19Z",
"postTitle": "This is why we canโ€™t get jobs",
"communityName": "r/recruitinghell",
"inputType": "search:comments",
"searchQuery": "HubSpot"
}

Post fields (101): id, url, title, body, communityName, username, upVotes, upvoteRatio, commentsCount, createdAt, flair, postType, contentUrl, domain, imageUrls, videoUrl, over18, ageHours, scorePerHour, commentsPerHour, engagementTotal, wordCount, bodyHtml, subredditSubscribers, authorFlairText, isSelf, isVideo, spoiler, locked, stickied, isAd, numCrossposts, galleryImages, permalink, shortUrl and more.

Comment fields (61): id, url, body, username, upVotes, createdAt, parentId, postId, postTitle, postUrl, communityName, isSubmitter, edited, bodyHtml and more. Comments found by a comment search come one by one, each filled in from its own page: its author (username, authorId), depth and rootCommentId (up to 8 levels deep), and the post's postUpVotes, postCommentsCount and postAuthor. They don't come inside their thread, so numberOfReplies is empty; turn on Include comments with a post search to get whole threads instead.

Community rows have subscribers, weeklyActiveUsers, weeklyContributions, description and rules; user rows have karma, account age and verification.

The Actor reads only public Reddit pages that anyone can open without an account. It never logs in and skips private and quarantined communities. If your results include personal data, you're responsible for handling it lawfully (for example under GDPR).

FAQ

Why do some posts not mention my word in the title? Reddit's search matches the post text too, so some posts mention your word only in passing (a job ad, a list of tools), and it also matches other forms of a word and other fields. Sort Relevance puts the closest matches first; Match set to Every word or Exact phrase keeps only results whose own text holds your words, and Search only in this subreddit and a Minimum score keep results tight. Skipped rows are free.

How do I get only new mentions every day? Schedule the Actor (Apify Schedules) with Sort New, Period Day and Posted after "1 day". Each run returns the last day's mentions; post rows have createdAt and scrapedAt to merge runs.

How far back does comment search go? Search only in this subreddit uses Reddit's own subreddit search (and each row is checked again). Reddit's comment search has no period of its own, so Period and Posted after/before are applied to what it returns (other comments are skipped and free). With sort New, the run stops at the first page older than your period.

Is it fast? Results arrive page by page as Reddit answers. The prefilled run (100 posts) took 6 and 25 seconds on Apify in two runs, the first row 1.5 and 3.3 seconds after the start (256 MB, datacenter proxy, October 22, 2026).

Does my Apify plan matter? Only for very large runs. Reddit allows 100 requests per IP every 10 minutes and the run uses your plan's datacenter proxy IPs (5 on Free, more on paid plans). If they are all used up, the run waits for Reddit's window to reset and says so in its status.
