What it does
Reddit has thousands of communities for every niche. Finding the right ones by hand is slow: Reddit's own search buries results and shows no useful numbers. This Actor searches Reddit's subreddit search for your topics and returns one structured row per matching community: size, weekly activity, description and which of your queries found it.
Enter "AI tools", "productivity", "SaaS" and get back every subreddit that covers those topics, deduplicated, ranked by subscriber count, with an activity ratio showing which communities are actually alive.
Key features
- Multi-query search: each topic is searched on its own; results are deduplicated across queries (a subreddit is one row and one charge, however many queries find it)
- Activity ratio:
weeklyActiveUsers / subscribersas a percentage. Finds small-but-engaged communities that a raw subscriber sort would bury - Posting activity (optional): turn on
includeActivityto add posts per day, median score, median comments, comments per post, distinct authors and the newest post's age, from each community's newest posts (100 by default). Included in the row price matchedQueries: which of your queries returned each subreddit (useful when a community covers several topics)- Subscriber filter: skip dead communities below a minimum
- NSFW filter: adult communities are left out by default
- Fast and light: plain HTTPS calls to Reddit's app API through Apify's datacenter proxy; rows go out in rank order as they are ready, so even a run you stop early keeps its top results

Getting started
- Enter your topics (e.g.
AI tools,project management,bootstrapped SaaS) - Set
minSubscribersto filter out dead communities (default: 1,000) - Run: results come back ranked by subscriber count with activity ratios
Use cases
Community targeting for marketers. Find every subreddit where your audience already hangs out. Use activityRatio to put engaged communities ahead of large-but-dead ones. Export to a spreadsheet and plan your community strategy.
Reddit advertising. Reddit ads target specific subreddits. Discover all communities relevant to your product before building your targeting list.
Content distribution. Find where to post your content for the most reach. matchedQueries shows which communities cover several angles of your topic: those are your best bets.
Competitor research. Search your competitor's brand name and product category to find where their users gather.
Niche validation. Low subscriber counts mean a limited audience; high activity ratios mean passionate communities. Use both to size an opportunity.
Input
| Parameter | Default | Description |
|---|---|---|
queries | (required) | Search topics |
maxResultsPerQuery | 25 | Subreddits per query after the filters (max 100; Reddit's subreddit search ends after about 200) |
minSubscribers | 1000 | Leave out communities smaller than this |
includeNSFW | false | Include adult communities |
includeActivity | false | Add posting numbers from each community's newest posts (one more request per subreddit; same price per row) |
activitySampleSize | 100 | How many newest posts those numbers come from (10-100; 25 answers about twice as fast) |
Tip: a big run with includeActivity reads a lot of post data. Giving it 1 GB of memory (Run options) makes it about twice as fast: 74 subreddits with activity took 12 s at 1 GB and 27-30 s at the default 256 MB. Runs without it are just as fast at 256 MB.
| proxyConfiguration | Apify datacenter | Reddit answers the datacenter proxy. If you pick Residential, the run still reads on datacenter and keeps residential for retries |
Activity ratio explained
activityRatio = (weeklyActiveUsers / subscribers) ร 100
A subreddit with 500,000 subscribers and 2,000 weekly visitors has an activity ratio of 0.4%: effectively dead. One with 8,000 subscribers and 3,500 weekly visitors has 43.75%: an engaged community where your posts will be seen.
Use it to sort by engagement rather than raw size when you want communities to take part in, not just advertise to.
