Get browser extension data from the Chrome Web Store, Firefox Add-ons (AMO) and Microsoft Edge Add-ons in one clean schema: name, developer, users, rating, rating count, version, last update, category, size, manifest version and the full permission list with a risk level. Run it on a schedule and it tells you what changed since the last run: users gained or lost, new version, permissions added or removed.

No login, no browser, no API key. Firefox data comes from Mozilla's official public API, Edge from the store's own JSON, and Chrome from the public listing pages. The Actor obeys each store's robots.txt.

What does Chrome Web Store Scraper do?

Chrome Web Store Scraper collects browser extension data from the Chrome Web Store, Firefox Add-ons (AMO) and Microsoft Edge Add-ons in one clean schema: users, rating, rating count, version, last update, category, developer, website, permissions and a permission risk level. Use it for extension market research, competitor tracking and security reviews of installed extensions.

How to use Chrome Web Store Scraper

  1. Click Try for free on this page (a free Apify account is enough to start).
  2. Fill in the input (see the examples below) or keep the prefilled example.
  3. Click Start and wait for the run to finish.
  4. Download the results from the Output tab as JSON, CSV, Excel or HTML, or read them with the Apify API.
  5. Optional: create a Schedule to run it daily or weekly, and connect a webhook or an integration (Make, Zapier, n8n, Slack).

What you can use it for

  • Competitor monitoring: track users, ratings and release cadence of the extensions in your niche across all three stores.
  • Security and compliance reviews: list the permissions of the extensions your company allows, flag anything that can read every website (broadHostAccess) or uses sensitive APIs, and get alerted when an update adds new permissions.
  • Market research: find the biggest extensions in a category (Chrome and Edge category pages, Firefox categories and keyword search) and compare stores.
  • Partnerships and lead generation: developer name, website, support page and privacy policy of each extension (developer email optional, off by default).
  • Manifest V2 to V3 tracking: manifestVersion for Chrome and Edge.

Output

One item per extension and store. Every item has exactly the same keys, so CSV / Excel exports line up across stores.

About the fields

  • users: Chrome shows weekly active users (rounded for big extensions), Firefox average_daily_users, Edge active installs.
  • permissionRisk: high if the extension can read or change every website (<all_urls>, *://*/*, content scripts on all sites) or uses a sensitive API (cookies, history, webRequest, debugger, proxy, nativeMessaging, management...); medium for moderately sensitive APIs (tabs, scripting, downloads, bookmarks...) or more than 5 specific sites; otherwise low. Many popular extensions are legitimately "high": the level tells you what the extension can do, not that it is malicious.
  • permissions / hostPermissions come from the manifest (Chrome, Edge) or from Mozilla's API (Firefox). Firefox does not expose manifestVersion.
  • created is only available on Firefox. developerEmail is never available on Edge.
  • changes is null on the first run of each extension or when trackChanges is off.

A run summary (counts per store, IDs not found, results per source, failed requests) is saved as RUN_SUMMARY in the key-value store. Removed or unpublished extensions are listed under notFound and are not charged. If nothing at all is extracted, the run is marked as failed.

Pricing

Pay per result, no subscription:

  • Extension (one full row, permissions included): USD 3.00 per 1,000 extensions
  • Actor start: USD 0.00005 per run

Extensions that are not found are not charged.

What it does not do (on purpose)

  • No Chrome reviews and no Chrome search: the Chrome Web Store's robots.txt disallows /detail/*/reviews and /search, so the Actor never requests them. Use category pages or a list of IDs instead.
  • Chrome category pages show about 30 extensions each; the Actor does not call Google's internal "load more" endpoints. Use several sub-category URLs for wider coverage.
  • No downloading of extension packages (Mozilla's robots.txt disallows /firefox/downloads/).

Speed and cost

Each extension is one request (Firefox search returns up to 50 per request). Each store gets at most one request every ~2 seconds, and the three stores run in parallel: about 60-80 extensions per minute when mixing stores. No proxies are needed.

It reads public listing data that the stores show to every visitor, at a low rate, only where robots.txt allows it, and it collects no personal data by default. Developer emails are only added if you enable them; you are then responsible for using them lawfully (GDPR, CAN-SPAM).

Why use Chrome Web Store Scraper

  • Chrome, Firefox and Edge in one schema. Same columns for all three stores, so you can compare a product across browsers in one spreadsheet.
  • Permissions with a risk level. Every row lists permissions and host permissions, plus permissionRisk (high / medium / low), broadHostAccess and sensitivePermissions, useful for security reviews and extension allow-lists.
  • Change tracking. Turn on trackChanges and each row says what changed since the last run (version, users, rating, permissions).
  • Category scans for Chrome and Edge, and keyword search for Firefox Add-ons.
  • Extensions that are not found are not charged.

Use it from your code, an integration or an AI agent

Python (pip install apify-client):

]
})
for item in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
print(item)

JavaScript / Node.js (npm install apify-client):

import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
const client = new ApifyClient({ token: '<YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN>' });
const run = await client.actor('latamdatatools/browser-extension-store-scraper').call({

No code:

  • Schedules: run it daily or weekly from Apify Console (Schedules), with the same input saved as a Task.
  • Integrations: send results to Google Sheets, Slack, email, Make, Zapier, n8n or Airbyte from the Integrations tab, or call your own webhook when a run finishes.
  • AI agents: add it as a tool in Claude, Cursor, VS Code and other MCP clients through the Apify MCP server (https://mcp.apify.com), so the agent can run Chrome Web Store Scraper and read the results.

FAQ

Can I call it from my own code or from an AI agent? Yes. Start runs and fetch results with the Apify API or the JavaScript / Python clients, or use it as a tool from Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients through the Apify MCP server (mcp.apify.com).

Can I run it automatically? Yes. Create a Schedule in Apify Console (for example every morning) and add a webhook or an integration to get the results where you need them.

Which export formats are available? JSON, JSONL, CSV, Excel (XLSX), XML, RSS and HTML table, from the Output tab or the API.

What does it cost? See the Pricing section above. You only pay for the events listed there.

Does it scrape Chrome Web Store reviews or search results? No. The Chrome Web Store robots.txt disallows the review and search pages, so this Actor does not visit them. Use extension URLs or category pages for Chrome; keyword search works for Firefox.

What does permissionRisk mean? A simple rating based on what the extension asks for: access to all sites or sensitive APIs (cookies, history, debugger, webRequest and similar) raise it. It is a triage signal, not a malware verdict.

Can I get the developer's contact email? Only if you turn on includeDeveloperEmail, and only the support email the store itself publishes. You are responsible for using it lawfully.
