Website Tech Stack Detector
Website Tech Stack Detector is a powerful tool for market research and competitive analysis. It crawls websites to detect over 1,000+ technologies, including CMSs, analytics tools, marketing pixels, frameworks, and server infrastructure.
It is a high-performance, deep-scanning solution designed to uncover the complete technology footprint of any website.
🚀 Why use this Detector?
Unlike browser-based extensions or web apps, this Actor lets you programmatically detect all technologies used on a website with advanced detection logic:
- SPA Support: Automatically waits for Single Page Applications (React, Next.js, Vue) to fully load and hydrate before scanning.
- Network Analysis: Detects "invisible" technologies (like Segment, Sentry, or DoubleClick) by monitoring background network traffic (XHR/Fetch).
- Deep DOM Analysis: Scans the page structure for specific attributes and scripts that indicate hidden frameworks.
- Any URL: Works on homepages (
example.com) or specific sub-pages (example.com/checkout).
🧭 How to Use
- Find the website URLs you want to analyze (e.g., competitors, potential leads, or your own sites).
- Open the Website Tech Stack Detector in Apify Console.
- Paste the URLs into the Websites to Scan (
startUrls) field. - (Optional) Toggle Proxy configuration for maximum accuracy.
- Click Run.
- Once finished, download the results from the Dataset tab as JSON, CSV, or Excel.

💰 Cost of Usage
This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific event such as Per Scanned URL (Dataset Item).
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher your subscription plan is. Here is the pricing for the Free plan versus the Business (Gold discount) plan:
| Dataset Items | Free Plan (No Discount) | Starter Plan (Bronze Discount) | Scale Plan (Silver Discount) | Business Plan (Gold Discount) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | $0.50 | $0.40 | $0.35 | $0.30 |
| 100 | $5.00 | $4.00 | $3.50 | $3.00 |
| 1,000 | $50.00 | $40.00 | $35.00 | $30.00 |
💡 Example: Scanning 1,000 websites (which produces 1,000 dataset items) would cost $50.00 on the Free plan.
The total cost depends on the number of URLs you scan. The platform automatically calculates and deducts usage from your account balance.
🤖 Automation & Integration Ideas
Lead Generation: Scan lists of businesses to find those using specific technologies (e.g., "Find all shops using Shopify + Klaviyo").
Competitor Monitoring: Schedule weekly runs to track when competitors add new analytics or ad trackers.
CRM Enrichment: Feed tech stack data directly into HubSpot, Salesforce, or Airtable.
Security Audits: Quickly check a list of domains for security headers (HSTS) or outdated frameworks.
🔌 Integrations & API Usage
You can run this Actor and integrate it with other systems programmatically by using the Apify API. You can also choose the language preference from the API tab of the Actor's page in the Apify Store. To use the Apify API, you’ll need an Apify account and your API token, found in Integrations settings in Apify Console.
❓ FAQ
Q: Is a proxy required?
A: Highly recommended. The proxyConfiguration is set to use Apify Proxy by default. Many modern websites block automated requests from data center IPs.
Q: Does it scan the whole website?
A: No, it scans the exact URL provided (e.g., the homepage). The detection is usually effective just by analyzing the homepage, as global technologies (GA, Chatbots, Frameworks) are loaded there.
Q: Is it legal to scan tech stacks?
A: Generally, yes. You are analyzing publicly available HTML, Scripts, and Headers that the website sends to any visitor. Read the blog post on the legality of web scraping to learn more.
🧩 Known Limitations
Login Pages: The Actor does not currently support logging into websites to scan behind authentication.
Obfuscation: Some highly customized websites explicitly hide their technology footprints, which may prevent detection.
