US Business Registry Search: Company Records from 6 States

$1 per 1,000 company records. Platform usage included. No rental, no minimum.

The four most used Secretary of State business search actors on Apify Store charge $2.00 to $14.00 per 1,000 results (Store prices checked 5 October 2026). This actor returns company records from the official registries of six states for $1. Check that your states are covered (see below).

Open it in Apify Console

New to Apify? [Create a free account](https://www.apify.com?fpr=ymnoit) (referral link). Runs from a free plan account return the first 10 results; any paid plan returns everything you ask for, up to your limit.

What it costs

RecordsThis actorMost used state business search actors on the Store
1,000$1.00$2.00 to $14.00
10,000$10.00$20 to $140
100,000$100.00$200 to $1,400

Plus $0.001 per run. A daily run of 300 records costs about $0.30, or about $9 a month. A name with no match costs nothing beyond the run fee.

Why people switch

  • One flat price. Compute and proxy are included, so the bill follows the number of records and nothing else.
  • Official open data, not scraped search pages. The actor queries the states' own open data APIs. No API key, no login, no CAPTCHA. In our test runs, 48 records from six states took between 8 seconds and a few minutes, depending on how fast the state portals answered.
  • Six states, one row shape. NY, CO, CT, OR, PA and TX come back with the same field names: entity ID, type, status, formation date, addresses, registered agent and, where published, officers. Good for KYB checks, registered agent lookups and brand name sweeps.
  • Best matches first. Exact names (with any ending such as Inc or LLC) come first, then names that start with your words, then names that contain them. Each entity is delivered once per run, and you pay for rows only.

Quick start

  1. Open the actor, type one or more company names, press Start.
  2. Or paste this input:
{ "companyNames": ["Tesla", "Nike"], "maxResultsPerState": 4, "maxItems": 50 }
  1. Download the results as JSON, CSV or Excel, or read them through the API.

Use it from code

curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/one_dollar_store~us-business-registry-search/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"companyNames": ["Tesla"], "states": ["NY", "CT"], "matchMode": "exact"}'
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN")
run = client.actor("one_dollar_store/us-business-registry-search").call(
run_input={"companyNames": ["Nike"], "maxResultsPerState": 4}
)
for item in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
print(item["state"], item["entityName"], item.get("status"))

Use it from an AI assistant

Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other assistants can call this actor through Apify's MCP server. Add it with this server address:

https://mcp.apify.com?tools=one_dollar_store/us-business-registry-search

Then ask, for example: "Is Nike, Inc. registered and active in Colorado and Texas? Show the registered agent for each."

Switching from another state business search actor

Most of them take a company name, a state and a result limit. Here they are companyNames (a list, so one run can cover many names), states (one or more) and maxResultsPerState. The core fields are entityName, entityId, state, entityType, status, formationDate, address and registeredAgent.

States covered

StateSourceWhat the dataset holds
New York (NY)Department of State, data.ny.govActive corporations, LLCs and partnerships, with registered agent, service of process address and chief executive
Colorado (CO)Secretary of State, data.colorado.govAll entities, active and inactive, with principal address and registered agent
Connecticut (CT)Secretary of the State, data.ct.govAll entities, active and inactive, with registered agent, officers, NAICS code and business email
Oregon (OR)Secretary of State, data.oregon.govActive businesses, including assumed business names, with registered agent and a link to the state record
Pennsylvania (PA)Department of State, data.pa.govActive registrations, with officers and directors
Texas (TX)Comptroller of Public Accounts, data.texas.govEntities set up for Texas franchise tax, with their Secretary of State file number, charter date and status

Other states are not covered because we found no open dataset of their business entities that can be searched by name. The actor never scrapes state search pages that use a CAPTCHA.

The Connecticut Tesla row also lists two officers, a NAICS code and its Austin, TX address; the Texas row carries the taxpayer number and franchise tax start date.

Limits

  • Active only in NY, OR and PA: those datasets hold active entities, so dissolved companies there are not found. A missing company may also be registered under another legal name, or not in that state.
  • Texas comes from tax records, not the Secretary of State search. It covers entities set up for franchise tax, which includes most corporations, LLCs and limited partnerships doing business in Texas.
  • Freshness follows the states. On 4 October 2026 the New York, Colorado, Connecticut and Texas datasets had been refreshed within two days, Oregon on 29 September and Pennsylvania on 2 September. Very recent filings may be missing.
  • Contains searches on very common words are slow in the biggest datasets (Pennsylvania, Texas); expect up to about 20 seconds per state.
  • State portals are sometimes slow. When one answers slowly or fails for a moment, the actor waits and retries, so a run can take a few minutes. In tests on 5 October 2026, a single Colorado or Pennsylvania search took about two minutes.
