Why not the official API?

StockTwits' official API requires an app registration, OAuth token exchange, and enforces tight rate limits. This actor uses the same public endpoints the stocktwits.com frontend calls — no key, no OAuth dance, 30 messages per request with cursor pagination.

FAQ

Do I need a StockTwits account or API key? No — every mode works anonymously through the public API the site's own frontend uses.

How does watch mode work? Pass sinceId = the highest messageId from your previous run's output. The actor emits only newer messages, so a scheduled run gives you a clean incremental feed. Store the new max ID each run.

What does .X mean on crypto symbols? StockTwits names crypto cashtags BTC.X, ETH.X, etc. Equities are plain tickers (AAPL, SPY).

Is every message sentiment-labeled? No — only messages where the author explicitly picked Bullish/Bearish carry a label (~35–70% depending on the symbol). The sentiment mode reports labeledPct so you know the coverage.

Rate limits? The public endpoints tolerate parallel and repeated scheduled runs well. A 429 surfaces as an error row — retry with a delay or proxy.

Is it legal to scrape this data? The actor only accesses publicly available data — the same pages/APIs a browser sees. Scraping public data for research, monitoring, and analysis is common practice, but platform Terms of Service and the rules in your jurisdiction still apply to how you use it. Consult legal counsel for your specific case.
