Google Maps Competitor Analysis: Local Market Report

See exactly how a local business stacks up against every competitor nearby on Google Maps in one run: ratings, review counts, phone numbers, websites, your rank, and a list of ready-made growth opportunities.

Enter a category and a city (for example "dentist" in "Austin, TX"), optionally add your own business name, and click Start. You get a full competitor report in a few minutes. No Google API key needed.

Who uses this

  • Local SEO & marketing agencies: send clients a monthly competitor report and win new clients with a free audit.
  • Small business owners: learn where you rank, who leads your area, and what to fix first.
  • Franchises & multi-location brands: compare each location with its local competition.
  • Sales teams selling to local businesses: find businesses with weak ratings, few reviews or no website. They are your best prospects.

What you get

Every run returns three kinds of rows:

1. SUMMARY: the market at a glance

{
"type": "SUMMARY",
"searchQuery": "coffee shop in Austin, TX",
"totalCompetitors": 10,
"marketAvgRating": 4.42,
"marketAvgReviews": 380,
"topCompetitor": "Epoch Coffee",
"topCompetitorReviews": 1250,
"weakestCompetitor": "Quick Brew",
"weakestRating": 3.8,
"yourBusinessFound": true,
"yourRating": 4.6,
"yourReviews": 210,
"yourRankByReviews": 6,
"opportunities": [
"Your rating (4.6) is above the market average (4.4). Highlight it in your marketing.",
"You have 210 reviews vs a market average of 380. A review campaign would close the gap.",
"\"Quick Brew\" has a low rating (3.8). Their unhappy customers are your opportunity.",
"3 of 10 competitors have no website. A strong online presence is an easy edge."
]
}

2. YOUR_BUSINESS: your own listing (if you gave a business name)

3. COMPETITOR: one row per competitor, ranked by review count

{
"type": "COMPETITOR",
"rank": 1,
"name": "Epoch Coffee",
"rating": 4.5,
"reviewCount": 1250,
"vsYourRating": -0.1,
"vsYourReviews": 1040,
"phone": "+15124543762",
"website": "http://epochcoffee.com",
"address": "221 W N Loop Blvd, Austin, TX 78751",
"category": "Coffee shop",
"hours": "Open 24 hours",
"url": "https://www.google.com/maps/place/..."
}

How to use

  1. Business category: e.g. pizza restaurant, dentist, gym, plumber.
  2. Location: a city, area or ZIP code.
  3. Your business name (optional): the exact name as shown on Google Maps. If it's not in the top results, the Actor searches for it directly. Leave empty for a market-only report.
  4. Number of competitors: 5–10 is ideal; up to 30.
  5. Click Start, then export to Excel/CSV or connect Google Sheets.

Monthly reports on autopilot: create an Apify Schedule (e.g. 1st of every month) and connect Google Sheets or email to track how the market changes over time.

Pricing

Pay per event: a small fee per run plus a fee per competitor analyzed. See the Pricing tab for current prices. Set a max cost per run and the Actor stops cleanly at your limit.

FAQ

Why wasn't my business found? Use the exact name shown on your Google Maps listing. Very generic names (e.g. "Dental") are not matched on purpose, to avoid mixing you up with a competitor.

I got blocked / no results. Google sometimes limits automated traffic. Run again, or set Proxy configuration to RESIDENTIAL.

Does it get emails? This Actor collects public Google Maps data (phone, website, address). To find emails from websites, pair it with Maps Leads Email Enricher.

  • Google Maps Business Lead Scraper: bulk lead lists from Google Maps.
  • Maps Leads Email Enricher: add emails and social links to Maps leads.
  • Google Maps Fresh Reviews: get the newest reviews for any place.
