New York Contractor Registry Scraper: new NYS contractor leads (businesses only)
Looking for new contractor leads in New York or a NYS contractor registry lookup in bulk? Get a daily feed of newly registered New York State contractors straight from the official NYS Department of Labor Contractor Registry open data on data.ny.gov. Each result is a business entity (LLC, Inc., Corp., LLP, PC, PLLC, joint venture and so on) with its certificate number, issue and expiration dates, city and ZIP, business address and phone, and compliance flags: debarment, outstanding wage assessments, labor-law and safety findings, workers' comp coverage, and apprenticeship participation.
No scraping, no browser, no proxies. The Actor reads the state's open-data API, so runs take seconds and the data is updated daily.
Who uses this
- Suppliers and distributors (lumber, electrical, HVAC, equipment rental) prospecting for new commercial contractors in New York.
- Insurance, bonding and surety agents looking for new businesses that must carry workers' comp and bid on public work.
- General contractors and prime bidders vetting subcontractors for prevailing-wage and public-work projects (debarment and wage-assessment flags).
- Construction software, payroll and certified-payroll vendors that serve prevailing-wage contractors.
- Market researchers tracking contractor formation by region, ZIP code or trade keyword.
What is the NYS Contractor Registry?
Under New York Labor Law, contractors and subcontractors must register with the NYS DOL Bureau of Public Work and Prevailing Wage Enforcement before bidding on public work or starting a private project covered by prevailing wage. That makes a new registration a strong signal that a business is about to work on public or prevailing-wage projects. The state publishes the registry as open data (dataset page) and updates it daily.
Privacy by design: businesses only
- Officer names are never downloaded. The registry's officer field is excluded from the API query itself.
- Sole proprietorships are always excluded.
- Each name must carry a legal-entity designator (LLC, Inc., Corp., Co., Company, Ltd., LP, LLP, PC, PLLC, DPC, Joint Venture/JV). Some registrations typed "Corporation" or "LLC" are listed under a person's name; these are dropped. In our tests about 4% of rows were dropped this way. Each run reports the count in
RUN_SUMMARY. - DBA (trade) names are kept only if they also carry an entity designator; otherwise the field is left blank.
- Address and phone are the registered business address and phone. You can turn them off with
includeContactDetails: false.

Output
One dataset item per registered business:
{"certificateNumber": "26-634AK-CR","businessName": "TADCON ELECTRIC LLC","businessType": "LLC","status": "Active","issuedDate": "2026-10-16","expirationDate": "2028-12-29","businessAddress": "28 HAMILTON STREET","city": "Potsdam","state": "NY","zipCode": "13676","businessPhone": "(315) 300-2275","mwbeOwned": false,"hasWorkersCompInsurance": true,"hasOutstandingWageAssessments": false,"debarred": false,"hasSafetyStandardViolation": false,"apprenticeshipAssociated": true,"latitude": 44.66723,"longitude": -74.98468,"sourceUrl": "https://data.ny.gov/d/i4jv-zkey"}
The dataset has two views, New contractors and Compliance flags. You can export to CSV, Excel or JSON, or pull results through the Apify API. A RUN_SUMMARY record logs rows scanned, results, non-entity rows dropped, and duration.
Run it on a schedule
Create an Apify Schedule that runs daily with issuedWithinDays: 1 or 2. You get only the newest registrations, which you can send to a webhook, Google Sheets, Make, Zapier or your CRM.
Pricing
Pay per result: you are charged only for the contractor records the run returns. maxResults and the run's spending limit both cap your cost, and the run stops cleanly when either is reached. See the Pricing tab for the current price.
FAQ
Is this data legal to use? Yes. It is official New York State open data, published under the OPEN-NY Terms of Use. Those terms allow free reuse, including commercial use, with no attribution required. Use it lawfully.
How fresh is it? The state refreshes the dataset daily. Each run queries it live.
Does it cover all contractors in New York? No. It covers businesses registered for public work and prevailing-wage projects, which is about 15,000 active registrations, with roughly 300 to 1,200 new ones per month in 2026. It does not include NYC home-improvement licenses or local municipal licenses.
Why is a business missing? It may be a sole proprietorship, or its registered name may have no entity designator (for example "Swinerton Builders"). Such rows are dropped on purpose so the feed never outputs personal names.
Do I need an API key? No.
