What does Podcast Mention Alerts do?

Podcast Mention Alerts is built for PR and communications agencies (and brand teams) that watch a whole industry's podcasts for their client. You give it up to 200 podcast feeds (RSS, Apple Podcasts or Spotify links) and up to 50 keywords (the client, its products, executives, competitors). On every run it finds the new episodes, transcribes only those, and returns one row per mention with the exact second and the sentence in which the keyword was said, plus a link that opens the audio at that second. Schedule it daily, send the dataset to Slack, e-mail, Google Sheets or your CRM with an Apify integration or webhook, and your team hears about a mention the same day instead of never.

For every mention you get:

  • 🎙️ podcast, episode title, publish date and episode URL
  • 🔑 the keyword and the words as the transcript wrote them
  • ⏱️ start second, end second and an h:mm:ss timestamp
  • 💬 the sentence with one segment of context before and after, and the speaker when speaker labels are on
  • 🔗 a listen link (…mp3#t=<second>) that starts the audio there in browsers and most players

Each episode also gets one free summary row with its mention count, so you can see what was checked even when nothing was found.

Who is it for?

  • PR and communications agencies: watch 50 industry podcasts for a client and its competitors.
  • Brand and reputation teams: find out when the company, a product or an executive is discussed and in what tone.
  • Investor relations and market research: follow how often a topic or ticker is spoken about.
  • Sponsorship and affiliate teams: confirm that a host read the ad, and where.

How to use it

  1. Click Try for free. The prefilled input checks the newest NPR News Now episode for "president".
  2. Add your Podcast feeds and Keywords.
  3. Choose Transcription mode: Managed (paid Apify plans, nothing else to set up) or BYOK (your own Deepgram, AssemblyAI or Groq/OpenAI key; works on every plan).
  4. Give the watch a Monitor name, save the input as a task and add a schedule. Episodes already transcribed are remembered and never paid for twice.
  5. Add an integration on the task to send the new mention rows to Slack, e-mail, Sheets or a webhook.

Free plan note: managed transcription costs real provider money, so it only runs on paid plans. On a free plan the default run ends successfully with one free info row that explains this; use BYOK mode to try the Actor on any plan.

Input example

{
"podcastFeeds": ["https://feeds.npr.org/500005/podcast.xml", "https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/example/id1234567890"],
"keywords": ["Acme Corp", "Jane Doe", "Rival Inc"],
"maxEpisodesPerFeed": 2,
"mode": "byok",
"byokProvider": "deepgram",
"byokApiKey": "…",
"fuzzyNames": true,
"monitorName": "acme-podcasts"
}

Output example

A mention row (shape of a real row; the transcription step needs a paid plan or a provider key, so this example is illustrative):

{
"rowType": "mention",
"podcast": "Example Industry Weekly",
"episodeTitle": "Episode 12: Electric trucks",
"publishedAt": "2026-10-06T06:00:00.000Z",
"episodeUrl": "https://example.com/episodes/12",
"keyword": "Acme Corp",
"matchedText": "Acme Corp",
"startSecond": 1865.4,
"endSecond": 1866.2,
"timestamp": "31:05",
"sentence": "And honestly, Acme Corp is the one to beat on range.",
"contextBefore": "We tested four trucks this year.",
"contextAfter": "Charging speed is another story.",
"speaker": "Speaker 2",
"listenUrl": "https://cdn.example.com/ep12.mp3#t=1865",
"fuzzyMatch": false
}

And its free episode row:

{ "rowType": "episode", "status": "completed", "mentionCount": 3, "mentionsByKeyword": { "Acme Corp": 2, "Rival Inc": 1 }, "durationSeconds": 2410.2, "chargedSeconds": 2411, "provider": "deepgram" }

Rows with rowType: "info" (managed mode unavailable, a feed that could not be read, no new episodes) and failed episodes cost nothing.

How much does it cost?

This Actor uses pay per event:

EventPrice
Audio second transcribed, managed mode (paid plans)$0.0002 per second ($0.012 per minute)
Audio second transcribed, BYOK (your own provider key; the provider bills you separately)$0.00007 per second (about $0.004 per minute)
Mention returned$0.002 per mention
Episode summary rows, info rows, failed or empty episodesfree
  • A 45-minute episode costs about $0.54 managed or $0.19 BYOK, plus $0.002 per mention. Episodes with no mentions still pay for transcription, because that is the work done.
  • A download or transcription that fails is never charged.
  • Maximum cost per run stops the run; an episode that would not fit in the remaining budget is skipped for free.
  • Apify also charges a tiny standard start fee per run.

Data sources and terms

  • Podcast RSS feeds are public by design; episodes are downloaded over plain HTTP from the URL in the feed's enclosure, at most one at a time, and deleted after transcription. Nothing is stored except your results and the list of processed episode IDs.
  • Apple Podcasts links are resolved to the show's RSS feed with Apple's public iTunes Lookup API. Spotify links are resolved to the same podcast's public RSS feed through Spotify's oEmbed and the iTunes Search API; Spotify audio is DRM protected and is never downloaded.
  • Transcription is done by Deepgram, AssemblyAI or Groq (managed) or by the provider you choose (BYOK). The audio is sent to that provider. This Actor is not affiliated with any podcast, Apple, Spotify or provider.
  • Check the podcast's terms and your local rules before you store or republish quotes; the rows are meant for monitoring and alerts.

Limitations

  • Speech recognition makes mistakes, especially with names and accents. Turn on Also match misheard spellings for names (it adds some false positives, marked fuzzyMatch).
  • Matching is on whole words, case-insensitive and accent-insensitive. Two spellings of a brand need two keywords.
  • Only audio episodes with a public enclosure work. Paywalled or private feeds, and episodes over Max minutes per episode (default 90), are skipped for free.
  • With Newest episodes per podcast = 1, only the newest unprocessed episode of each feed is checked per run; raise it if a feed can publish several episodes between runs.
  • Timestamps are word-level when the provider returns word times (Deepgram, AssemblyAI, Whisper-style APIs with word timestamps) and segment-level otherwise.
  • Dynamic ad insertion can shift timestamps by a few seconds compared with the file you download later.

FAQ

Do I pay twice for an episode?

No. Processed episodes are remembered per Monitor name in a named key-value store. Turn on Transcribe episodes again to override.

Can I use it without a paid plan?

Yes, in BYOK mode with your own key. Managed mode needs a paid Apify plan.

Is my API key safe?

The key is stored encrypted by Apify, only sent to the provider, and removed from every message and row.

How do I reset a watch?

Use a new Monitor name or delete the named key-value store podcast-mentions-<name>.
