What Data Can You Extract from Weibo Comments (微博评论)?

Every row includes:

• Identity: row type (comment or reply), post ID and URL, comment ID, parent comment ID
• Content: text, character count, mentions, image URLs, image count
• Engagement: likes, reply count, floor number
• Location: the province the commenter wrote from
• Thread context: who a reply answers plus their words and comment ID so threads reconstruct exactly, and an unbilled preview of replies when you leave replies off. On posts with 300 comments or fewer, also whether the post author wrote the comment and Weibo's own hot-comment and promoted-comment markers
• Commenter: ID, handle, profile URL, avatar, followers, following, post count, verification type and reason, bio, gender, location, VIP rank, SVIP status, and lifetime likes, comments and reposts

Sixteen commenter and marker columns come from Weibo's ranked comment view, which Weibo caps at 300 comments per post. They are filled whenever that view can serve your run — on any post with 300 comments or fewer, whatever you ask for, and on the first 300 of a bigger post when you ask for 300 or fewer: authorCreatedAt (account age 注册时间), authorLevel, authorMutualFollowers, authorFavoritesCount, authorPageFriends, authorVideoCount, authorVideoPlays, authorLanguage, authorCreditScore, authorAbilityTags, authorVerifiedBadges, authorIsBrand, isByPostAuthor, likedByPostAuthor, isHotComment and promotedLabel.

Only one case loses them: asking for more than 300 comments from a post that has more than 300, where reading the whole thread means leaving that view behind. They then come back null, never false or 0, so a filter on them matches nothing rather than quietly matching everything. Reply rows never carry them at any setting.

Output Example

One comment row and one reply row from the same thread, from a run with includeReplies: true. All 66 keys and their full values are shown on both; null and empty arrays indicate unavailable or inapplicable data. Media URLs are snapshots and may expire.

replyPreview is empty on both rows because replies were turned on, so the real replies shipped as their own rows instead. Leave replies off and each comment carries a short preview there, unbilled.

Filter for isByPostAuthor set to true to isolate the brand's own replies, and use replyToUser to see exactly who they answered.

maxCommentsPerPost is 300 here on purpose: on a post with thousands of comments, that is the deepest run on which Weibo still tells us who the post author is. Go deeper on a thread that big and isByPostAuthor is null on every row, so this filter matches nothing. On a post with fewer than 300 comments you can ask for the whole thread and keep it.

What is Weibo (微博 / Sina Weibo / 新浪微博)? Weibo is China's largest public microblogging platform, often called the Chinese Twitter or X abroad. Its comment threads are where public reaction to a brand, product or news event actually plays out, which is what this Actor collects.

Does Weibo have an official API I could use instead? Weibo's developer platform requires a Chinese business licence and a domestic entity, which rules it out for most teams outside China. This Actor needs neither.

Do I need a Weibo account or cookies? No. Paste a post link and run.

What link formats does it accept? Desktop links like https://weibo.com/1651520735/RgRa1xM1x, mobile links like https://m.weibo.cn/detail/5340176018049431, and bare post IDs. All resolve instantly with no extra cost.

How many comments can I get per post? The whole thread, down to the first comment ever posted on it. Set maxCommentsPerPost to 0 for everything, or to a number to stop early.

On a normal post that is everything: one showing 991 comments returned 879 comment rows plus the 108 replies those comments declare, which is 987 of the 991 it prints. That run used maxCommentsPerPost: 0 with includeReplies on.

Why a big post can return fewer rows than the number printed on it

The number Weibo shows is a lifetime counter, and it keeps counting comments Weibo no longer serves to anyone. The run is not stopping early: it reaches the very first comment on the thread every time.

The difference shows up on posts that drew a burst rather than a conversation. One brand post printing 10,826 served 3,930 comments plus 233 declared replies. Its comments had arrived at up to 6,700 an hour, and the biggest gap is a 35-minute window overnight where about a thousand near-simultaneous comments are no longer returned. You can confirm it yourself: open the post on Weibo and scroll , those comments are not there for you either.

What is the difference between a comment and a reply? A comment answers the post; a reply answers a comment. Both ship as rows, told apart by rowType. Reply rows carry parentCommentId, plus replyToUser and replyToText so you can see what they respond to.

What is replyPreview? When you leave replies off, each comment still arrives with a couple of its replies attached, and those ride along in replyPreview at no extra charge. It is a preview, not the thread: a comment with 241 replies typically previews 2. Turn includeReplies on for the real thread.

Which field tells me where a commenter is? region carries the province Weibo shows on the comment. It is populated on essentially every row.

Can I tell when the brand itself replied? Yes: isByPostAuthor is true when the post's own author wrote that comment or reply. It is filled on any post with 300 comments or fewer, and on the first 300 comments of a bigger post. Only when you read a thread deeper than 300 does Weibo stop telling us, and the column is then null on every row rather than a misleading false.

Can I also search Weibo by keyword? Not in this Actor. Use Weibo Search Scraper, then feed its postId values straight into this one's postUrls.
