Why choose this actor?

• Movie and TV comments with star ratings. 542 short comments for 肖申克的救赎 (The Shawshank Redemption), with good, neutral and bad ratings. The most-used competing Douban scraper returns none for movies.

What Douban data can you extract?

Every run returns up to four kinds of rows, told apart by type:

• review (60 fields): full text as plain text, Markdown and HTML, rating and label, useful and useless votes, reads, likes, reshares, donations, author profile, the reviewed title, optional replies with their full nested threads.
• comment (20 fields): short text, star rating, reader status, votes, location and date, author profile, the rated title.
• topic (65 fields): discussion title, full text as plain text, Markdown and HTML, tags, elite and lock flags, likes, reshares, author, group name, description, rules, category and owner, optional replies.
• subject (61 fields for a movie): rating and vote count, genres, countries, languages, directors, actors, aliases, synopsis, release dates, awards, trailers, streaming platforms. Books add authors, press, pages, price and catalog; music adds singers, tracks and media.

Text stays in the original Chinese. Timestamps are ISO 8601 in Beijing time (UTC+8).

What is Douban (豆瓣)? Douban (豆瓣, literally "bean petal", at douban.com) is China's reviews and interest community.

It covers Douban Movie (豆瓣电影), Douban Books (豆瓣读书), Douban Music (豆瓣音乐) and thousands of Douban Groups (豆瓣小组), and its ratings are the reference scores for Chinese films and books.

This scraper collects its reviews, short comments, group discussions and title details.

Do I get the full text of long reviews? Yes. Every review comes with its complete text as plain text, Markdown and the original HTML, together with the author, date, rating, votes and the reviewed title.

Is there an official Douban API? Not for new developers: Douban closed its public developer API years ago.

This actor returns the same kind of data, reviews, ratings, comments and discussions, as structured JSON you can download or pull with the Apify API.

How many reviews can I collect for one title? Every review the title lists. The Shawshank Redemption shows 14,897.

Private or deleted reviews are skipped and not charged.

How many short comments can I collect? For a popular movie, up to about 540: the most popular comments for each reader status plus Douban's good, neutral and bad rating tabs. The Shawshank Redemption gave 542.

For books, about 300 across read, reading and want to read.

Can I get the newest reviews or comments first? No. Douban lists reviews and comments publicly in its popularity order, and the scraper follows that order.

For fresh activity, schedule a group with groupSort set to new.

How many discussions can I get from a group? With groupSort set to all (the default), most of the group: 9,706 of one group's 10,675 discussions in testing.

The newest order alone stops after about 300.

Can I paste links from the Douban mobile site? Yes. m.douban.com links for titles, reviews and discussions work like desktop links.

Why is the text in Chinese? Douban is a Chinese-language platform, and the scraper keeps the original text. Translate it afterwards with DeepL, Google Translate or an LLM if needed.

Why don't Douban image links open in my browser? Douban only serves its images to visitors coming from Douban pages. Download them with the Referer header set to https://www.douban.com/.

How do I export the data? Download JSON, CSV, Excel, XML or HTML from the run's Storage tab, or use the Apify API. JSON keeps nested fields such as author and replies intact.

How fresh is the data? It is collected live when the run starts. Every row has a scrapedAt timestamp, so counts such as votes and reads reflect that moment.

What happens with private or deleted links? The run logs a short warning, skips them and continues with the rest. Skipped items are not charged.

How do I keep a run's cost under control? Set maxResults per link and a maximum cost per run in the Console. Short comments and title details cost less than long-form reviews.
