What is Douban (豆瓣)? Douban (豆瓣, literally "bean petal", at douban.com) is China's reviews and interest community, where readers and viewers post long-form reviews: film reviews (影评), book reviews (书评) and music reviews (乐评).

Its ratings are the reference scores for Chinese films and books. This actor collects those reviews for any movie, TV series, book or album.

Is there an official Douban API for reviews? Not for new developers: Douban closed its public developer API years ago.

How many reviews can I collect for one title? Every review the title lists. The Shawshank Redemption shows 14,897.

Private or deleted reviews are skipped and not charged.

How does the star filter work? Pick the ratings to keep in stars. Reviews with other ratings are skipped before they load, so they cost nothing.

unrated keeps reviews posted without a star rating. Rare ratings on titles with thousands of reviews take longer to find, because the whole list is checked.

Do I get the full text of every review? Yes. Each review comes with its complete text as plain text, Markdown and the original HTML, together with the author, dates, rating and votes.

Can I get the newest reviews first? No. Douban lists reviews publicly in its own order, most helpful first, and the actor follows that order.

To follow a title over time, schedule a weekly run and keep reviews whose reviewId is new.

How does keyword search pick titles? It takes the best matches Douban returns for the term, per category, up to titlesPerSearch. With searchCategory set to all, films and TV, books and music each add their own matches.

Can I also get short comments, group discussions or title details? Not in this actor. Douban Scraper collects short comments with star ratings, whole groups of discussions and full title details, from the same links.

Can I paste links from the Douban mobile site? Yes. m.douban.com links for titles and reviews work like desktop links.

Why is the text in Chinese? Douban is a Chinese-language platform, and the actor keeps the original text. Translate it afterwards with DeepL, Google Translate or an LLM if needed.

Why don't Douban image links open in my browser? Douban only serves its images to visitors coming from Douban pages. Download them with the Referer header set to https://www.douban.com/.

Why did a run return fewer reviews than expected? The title may list fewer reviews than maxReviews, or the star filter matched only some of them. Private or deleted links are skipped with a short warning.

Check that each link is a public Douban movie, TV, book or music page. If something still looks wrong, open an issue in the Issues tab.

How do I export the data? Download JSON, CSV, Excel, XML or HTML from the run's Storage tab, or use the Apify API. JSON keeps nested fields such as author and replies intact.

How fresh is the data? It is collected live when the run starts. Every row has a scrapedAt timestamp, so votes and reads reflect that moment.
