A keyword rank checker and SERP rank tracker: give it your domain and a list of keywords, and get one row per keyword with your Google organic position, the ranking URL and title, the positions of up to 10 competitor domains, the top 10 organic results, and the SERP features on the page (featured snippet, local pack, People Also Ask, AI Overview shown or not). One Google search per keyword, live.

It calls a commercial SERP data API instead of driving browsers: no proxies, no CAPTCHAs, no Google account, no API key of your own. Keywords run five at a time, a few seconds each. You only pay for keywords whose results page was read, plus a small fee per run.

Typical uses

  • Rank tracking: check where your site ranks on Google for 10 or 1,000 keywords, by country and language.
  • Competitor positions: add competitor domains and see, keyword by keyword, who ranks above whom.
  • SERP analysis: the top 10 results (domain, URL, title) and which SERP features Google shows, before you write content.
  • Featured snippet tracking: featuredSnippetOwned says whether the snippet comes from your site.
  • Weekly reports: schedule a run and send the table to Google Sheets, Looker Studio, Slack, n8n, Make or Zapier.

What you get for each keyword

FieldDescription
keyword, domainThe keyword searched; your domain (normalized)
organicPosition, organicUrl, organicTitleYour best organic position within the depth checked (1 = first organic result), the ranking URL and its title (null = not found; message then says how many organic results were checked)
competitorsEach competitor domain with its position, URL and title
top10The first 10 organic results: position, domain, URL, title
featuredSnippet, featuredSnippetOwnedGoogle showed a featured snippet; it comes from your domain
localPack, peopleAlsoAskGoogle showed a local pack (map results); a People Also Ask box
aiOverviewShownGoogle returned an AI Overview block (reported as sent; its text and sources are not loaded)
serpFeaturesAll non-organic result types on the page (paid, video, images, top_stories...)
organicResultsChecked, pagesCountOrganic results read and Google pages retrieved
found, status, messageFOUND for a billed row; free rows say why: NO_RESULTS, PROVIDER_ERROR, REJECTED, NOT_CHECKED
country, languageCode, checkedAtWhere and when the search ran

Missing values are null, never guessed. Subdomains count as your site (blog.hubspot.com for hubspot.com). Positions are Google's organic rank (ads, maps and other boxes are not counted).

Input

{
"domain": "hubspot.com",
"keywords": ["crm software", "best crm for small business", "free crm"],
"competitorDomains": ["salesforce.com", "zoho.com"],
"country": "US",
"depth": 10
}
  • domain (required): your site; https://, www. and paths are ignored.
  • keywords: up to 1,000 per run, one Google search each.
  • competitorDomains (optional): up to 10 domains tracked on the same results pages, at no extra charge.
  • country: US, GB, CA, AU, IE, IN, DE, AT, CH, FR, BE, ES, MX, IT, NL, PT, BR, PL, SE, JP. languageCode defaults to the country's main language.
  • depth (default 10): how many Google results to search for your domain, 10 to 100. 10 = the first Google page, which usually holds 7 to 10 organic results once ads, AI Overview and other boxes take their place (organicResultsChecked gives the count). Each extra 10 results is one more Google page (see Pricing).

Pricing

Pay per event, no subscription (see the Pricing tab for the current prices):

  • Keyword checked: once per keyword whose Google results page was read, competitors included.
  • Extra results page: only if you raise depth above 10, once per extra page of 10 results Google returned. The default depth of 10 (first page) is the normal case and the cheapest; a top 100 check costs about 0.04 $ per keyword.
  • A small Actor start fee per run.

Keywords with no results, keywords the data source failed or refused, and keywords not reached (budget or timeout) get a free row with found: false and the reason. The run never spends more than the maximum cost you set.

Free Apify plan: each run checks the first 5 keywords, so you can test the output. A paid Apify plan removes this limit.

Good to know

  • Rankings move: the same keyword can rank one place higher or lower a few minutes apart. Track trends over several runs (a weekly schedule), not a single check.
  • Results are those of a logged-out desktop user in the chosen country and language, not personalized.
  • Your site's best result counts: if two of your pages rank, you get the higher one.
  • To track whether Google's AI Overview cites your site, use AI Overview Tracker. For local rankings on Google Maps, use Google Maps Rank Tracker.
  • Not affiliated with Google.

Run summary

Each run stores a summary in the key-value store (OUTPUT): keywords run, keywords with no result, keywords billed, extra pages charged, and anything skipped because of the free-plan or budget limit.

Use it from code, automations or AI agents

API (one call, results returned directly):

curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/plainrows~keyword-rank-checker/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"domain": "hubspot.com", "keywords": ["crm software"]}'

n8n, Make, Zapier: use the Apify integration, pick plainrows/keyword-rank-checker, schedule it weekly and send the rows to Google Sheets or Slack.

AI agents (MCP tool): add https://mcp.apify.com?tools=plainrows/keyword-rank-checker to Claude, Cursor or any MCP client, then ask "Where does hubspot.com rank on Google for these keywords?".

FAQ

How do I check my Google ranking for a list of keywords? Put your domain in domain and your keywords in keywords. organicPosition and organicUrl answer it keyword by keyword.

Is this a SERP API? Yes: one call per list of keywords, JSON rows back, usable from the Apify API, n8n, Make, Zapier or as an MCP tool. You do not need your own SERP API account.

Do I pay for keywords where my site does not rank? Yes, the "Keyword checked" fee: the page was read, and you still get the top 10 and the competitors' positions. Keywords with no Google results at all are free. Keywords with Google search operators (site:, intitle:, inurl:, filetype:…) are not searched and listed in invalidKeywords of the run summary, at no cost; quotes, -word and OR work as usual.

Can I check positions beyond the first page? Yes, raise depth up to 100. Each extra page of 10 results is billed as an extra page.
