Check product listings for Made in USA claims that may break the FTC Made in USA Labeling Rule (16 CFR 323). The Made in USA Claim Checker finds "Made in USA", "American made" and "USA made" claims and flags them when the same listing says "imported", names another country of origin, has a foreign country-of-origin field or mentions imported parts. It also recognises qualified claims ("Made in USA of imported fabric"), "Assembled in USA", "Designed in California" and US flag badges. Click Start with the prefilled example to see it work.

This is an automated screen of listing text, not a legal determination. It can't check where a product or its parts were actually made. A clean result doesn't mean a claim is true or lawful. Not legal advice; every row carries this disclaimer and a timestamp.

What does the Made in USA Claim Checker do?

  • ✅ Claim vs origin field (high): an unqualified USA claim while the country-of-origin field says China, Imported or another country.
  • ✅ Claim vs foreign-origin text (high): "Made in USA" next to "Imported" or "Made in Vietnam" in the same listing.
  • ✅ Claim with foreign parts (high): imported movement, fabric, components or materials mentioned with an unqualified claim.
  • ✅ Qualified and assembled claims as info notes, so clean qualified listings aren't charged as problems when you use Only save rows with findings.
  • ✅ Designed in USA with foreign origin and US flag badges as notes, since symbols can imply origin.
  • ✅ Unqualified claims with no conflict get a low reminder (or an info note when the origin field also says USA).
  • ✅ Output per row: claimType, usaClaims, originField, foreignOriginText, riskLevel, issueCount, categoriesFlagged, issues (ruleId, severity, message, quote, sourceUrl, fixHint), checkedAt and a disclaimer.

Who is it for?

  • Amazon, Walmart, Etsy and Shopify sellers checking titles and bullets before a listing goes live.
  • Brands auditing resellers who add 'Made in USA' to their products.
  • Marketplace trust and catalog teams screening listings at scale.
  • Journalists and researchers studying origin claims across a category.

How to check listings for Made in USA claims

  1. Click Start with the prefilled example (a claim vs a China origin field, an imported movement, a qualified claim and a flag graphic shirt).
  2. Replace Products with your own: title, description, features, origin and components.
  3. Or enter a Dataset ID from an Amazon, Walmart, Etsy, eBay or Shopify scraper; use Field map for nested fields like productDetails.countryOfOrigin.
  4. Turn on Only save rows with findings to skip clean listings; you only pay for saved rows.
  5. Export results as CSV, Excel or JSON, or fetch them through the API.

How much does it cost to check Made in USA claims?

This Actor uses pay-per-event pricing: $0.002 per product saved plus a $0.00005 start fee per run, plus small platform usage paid by you (a few hundredths of a cent for small runs). That's about $2.00 for 1,000 products and $20.00 for 10,000 plus usage. With Only save rows with findings on, rows without findings aren't saved or charged. You can set a maximum cost per run in the run options.

Use it through the API, integrations or AI agents

  • Run it and get results in one call: https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/ultimatemc~made-in-usa-claim-checker/run-sync-get-dataset-items
  • Use it from AI agents through the Apify MCP server: https://mcp.apify.com?tools=ultimatemc/made-in-usa-claim-checker
  • Schedule it after a daily scraper run, send flagged rows to Slack or email with webhooks, or connect it to Make, Zapier, n8n or Google Sheets.
  • Chain it after any product scraper by passing the scraper's dataset ID.

How it works

Checks are deterministic rules written from 16 CFR 323, the FTC's Complying with the Made in USA Standard guide and, for textiles, 16 CFR 303.34, checked on 2026-11-01. Claims are found with patterns that skip negations ("not made in USA") and recognise qualifiers that follow them. No AI and no external calls.

FAQ

What is an unqualified Made in USA claim?

A claim with no conditions, like 'Made in USA'. The FTC says it needs the product to be 'all or virtually all' made in the US: final assembly, all significant processing and almost all components.

Is 'Assembled in USA' OK?

It's a qualified claim with its own conditions (the product's last substantial transformation happens in the US). The checker notes it as info.

Does a US flag count as a claim?

It can. The FTC says symbols can imply US origin. A flag next to a claim is noted; a flag on an imported product is flagged for review, though a flag graphic on a T-shirt design isn't.

Is it AI?

No. It's a fixed set of rules, so the same input always gives the same result.

Limitations

  • It can't verify supply chains, only what the listing says.
  • Images and badges aren't read; only text and fields.
  • State rules (such as California's) and other countries' origin rules aren't covered.
