Search official FDA drug labels (Structured Product Labeling) and the National Drug Code (NDC) directory through the openFDA API. Search by brand name, generic name, active ingredient, manufacturer, product NDC or pharmacologic class. Label rows include indications, dosage and administration, dosage forms and strengths, boxed warnings, contraindications, warnings and precautions, drug interactions, adverse reactions, pregnancy, overdosage, mechanism of action and how supplied, plus NDCs, RxCUIs, application number and label date. NDC rows include active ingredients and strengths, dosage form, route, marketing category and dates, DEA schedule and package NDCs. No login, no API key.

Who is it for?

  • Pharmacies, health-tech and telehealth apps that need structured drug information.
  • Pharma, market-access and regulatory teams monitoring labels and competitors.
  • Researchers and AI teams building medical knowledge bases.
  • Distributors and ecommerce mapping NDCs to products and packages.

How to use it

  1. Pick datasets: drug labels, the NDC directory, or both.
  2. Choose search by (brand, generic, ingredient, manufacturer, NDC or class) and add search terms.
  3. Set max results and how long label sections may be.
  4. Click Start and export to JSON, CSV or Excel.

Input example

{"datasets": ["label", "ndc"], "searchBy": "brand", "searchTerms": ["ozempic"], "maxResultsPerSearch": 5}

Output example

{"dataset": "label", "brandName": "OZEMPIC", "genericName": "ORAL SEMAGLUTIDE", "manufacturer": "Novo Nordisk Pharmaceutical Industries, LP", "productType": "HUMAN PRESCRIPTION DRUG", "pharmClass": ["GLP-1 Receptor Agonist [EPC]"], "applicationNumber": "NDA213051", "effectiveDate": "2026-01-30", "boxedWarning": "WARNING: RISK OF THYROID C-CELL TUMORS ...", "dailyMedUrl": "https://dailymed.nlm.nih.gov/dailymed/drugInfo.cfm?setid=27f15fac-7d98-4114-a2ec-92494a91da98"}

How much does it cost?

Pay-per-event: a small fee per record (label or NDC product), plus a tiny per-run start fee, with no subscription and no separate platform usage costs. For example, 1,000 records cost about $2. Searches with no matches are not charged. Set Maximum cost per run to cap your spending.

Use it through the API, integrations or AI agents

Run it from the Apify API, on a schedule, or connect it to Make, Zapier, n8n or Google Sheets. AI agents can find and call it through the Apify MCP server. Output is clean JSON with the same fields on every run.

FAQ

Is it legal? Yes. openFDA publishes FDA data as public domain (CC0) through a free public API, and the tool requests it at a polite pace. It does not use adverse-event reports or any patient data.

Is this medical advice? No. Labels are reproduced as submitted to the FDA. Always check DailyMed or a pharmacist for clinical use.

How current is it? openFDA updates labels and the NDC directory weekly.
