Company News Monitor output preview: real run results as a table

  • In short: Company News Monitor (Apify actor transparent_meteorite/company-news-monitor) monitors news about companies, brands or keywords from 75 publisher RSS feeds (and the GDELT index when it is reachable) and returns deduplicated, event-tagged articles.
  • Who it is for: sales teams watching trigger events, PR and comms teams, investors and analysts, competitive-intelligence teams.
  • Input: companies, keywords, time span, max items, must-include and exclude words, event filter, your own RSS feeds, delta mode.
  • Output: headline, URL, publisher, published date, matched company/keyword, event tags (funding, layoffs, hiring, lawsuit, acquisition and more), snippet.
  • Price: $0.002 per article plus $0.00005 per run start. Pay per result, no subscription; Apify's free plan credit covers a first test.
  • Limits: GDELT often rate-limits, so most results come from the 75 bundled RSS feeds; full article text is not included.

Watch any list of companies, domains or keywords and get every new news article about them as clean, deduplicated rows: headline, link, publisher, date, language, country, matched terms, feed summary, image, business-event tag and sentiment.

Sources are the GDELT DOC 2.0 global news index and 75 verified publisher RSS/Atom feeds (Bloomberg, CNBC, Financial Times, New York Times, BBC, TechCrunch, The Verge, Axios, PR Newswire, GlobeNewswire, Business Wire and more), plus any feeds you add. Turn on delta mode, schedule it, and each run returns only the articles you have not seen yet.

Run in 30 seconds

  1. Open the prefilled run (free Apify account; it creates a saved task with a working input).
  2. Press Start. The input is small on purpose, so the first run is quick and costs a few cents at most.
  3. Open the Output tab, switch to Table view, download as CSV, Excel or JSON.

Prefilled input:

{
"companies": [
"Nvidia"
],
"timespan": "24h",
"maxItems": 3,
"deltaMode": false,
"stateStoreName": "company-news-monitor-state",

Ready-made presets by use case (each opens as a saved task you can edit):

Why choose this over alternatives

  • 75 bundled publisher RSS feeds plus the GDELT global news index when it is reachable, and you can add your own feeds.
  • Whole-word matching, deduplication and event tags.
  • Delta mode for schedules: each run only returns articles you have not seen.
  • Paid media-monitoring services index far more sources and include full text; this is a lightweight pay-per-article monitor.

What does it do

New 2026-10-13:

Field / inputWhat it is
detected_categoryThe highest-impact business signal found in the headline or summary: layoffs, lawsuit, acquisition, funding, earnings, hiring, partnership, product_launch, or general. Keyword rules, no LLM.
signal_strength0 to 100 score from category impact, number of categories, matched terms (and a match in the headline), tone and how many other outlets carried the story.
input lookbackDays1 to 30 days; replaces the Look-back window when set.
input includeKeywords, excludeKeywordsKeep or drop articles by words in the headline or summary (combined with Must also mention and Words to exclude).
input signalCategoriesKeep only chosen categories (combined with Event filter). Now includes partnership, product launch and earnings.
  • Matches your company names, domains (stripe.com) and keyword phrases as whole words in headlines and feed summaries, so "Stripe" does not match "pinstripes".
  • Queries GDELT DOC 2.0 (65+ languages, refreshed every 15 minutes) and 75 publisher feeds in parallel, plus your own feeds.
  • Deduplicates by canonical URL (tracking parameters, www., m., AMP and trailing slashes removed) and by headline similarity, so a story syndicated by 5 outlets shows up once and lists the others in alsoReportedBy.
  • Delta mode remembers delivered articles in a named key-value store in your account. Scheduled runs return and charge only new articles.
  • Tags each article with business events (funding, layoffs, hiring, lawsuit, acquisition) and a simple headline sentiment, so you can filter to only funding or M&A news.
  • Filters by look-back window (1 hour to 30 days), language, publisher country, must-include words and exclude words.

Why use it

  • $2 per 1,000 articles, about half the price of the popular Google News scrapers ($4 to $5 per 1,000), and duplicates, non-matches and already-seen articles are never charged.
  • Built for monitoring, not one-off scraping: multi-company watch lists, delta mode and dedupe are built in. Other news scrapers return the same story again every run.
  • Official and public sources only: GDELT's open API and the RSS feeds publishers provide for syndication. No Google or Bing scraping, no login, no proxies, no browser. Fast: the default run finishes in about 30 seconds.
  • Structured for automation: ISO language and country codes, ISO 8601 dates, canonical domain, matched terms array.

How to use

  1. Enter companies or domains (and optionally keyword phrases) in Companies or domains to watch.
  2. Pick a look-back window (default: last 24 hours).
  3. Optional: narrow with Must also mention, Event filter, Source language or Source country; add your own feeds.
  4. For alerts: turn on Delta mode, then create a Schedule (for example hourly with a 3-hour window, or daily with a 3-day window) and attach a webhook, Slack, email or Make/Zapier/n8n integration.
  5. Press Start and download the results as JSON, CSV, Excel or via API.

GDELT rows have the same shape with provider: "gdelt", the GDELT language and source country, the article's social image, and snippet: null. GDELT does not publish article text, and this actor never copies article bodies. The OUTPUT record in the run's key-value store shows per-source counts, feeds that failed, duplicates merged, and how many articles delta mode skipped.

Pricing

Pay per event, no subscription:

  • Actor start: $0.00005 per run.
  • Article returned: $0.002 per article delivered to the dataset ($2 per 1,000).

Duplicates, articles that do not mention your terms, and articles already delivered in delta mode are never charged.

Worked example: you watch 20 competitors with an hourly schedule in delta mode, and about 120 new articles a day match. 120 x $0.002 = $0.24 a day, plus 24 starts x $0.00005 = $0.0012, so about $7.24 a month. A single one-off run of the default input (28 articles) costs about $0.056. Platform compute is small (512 MB, about 30 s per run).

Apify's free plan includes $5 of monthly platform credit, which covers about 2,000 news articles with this actor (at $0.002 per result, plus small platform usage). Paid Apify plans get the same data with no monthly cap; scheduled daily runs stay cheap because each run only returns new records.

Use cases

  • Sales trigger events: funding, leadership changes, layoffs and other news about target accounts.
  • PR and comms: brand and competitor mentions from publisher feeds.
  • Investors and analysts: a deduplicated news feed for a watchlist.
  • Alerts: deltaMode and a schedule send only new articles.

Use from AI agents (MCP, ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity)

Company News Monitor works as a tool for AI assistants through the official Apify MCP server. Add this server URL to any MCP client (Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, ChatGPT connectors, VS Code):

https://mcp.apify.com/?actors=transparent_meteorite/company-news-monitor

Claude Desktop / Cursor config:

{
"mcpServers": {
"apify": {
"url": "https://mcp.apify.com/?actors=transparent_meteorite/company-news-monitor",
"headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer <YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN>" }
}
}
}

Then ask in plain language, for example: "How do I get alerts when a company is in the news?"

Call it directly over HTTP (runs the actor and returns the dataset items in one request):

curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/transparent_meteorite~company-news-monitor/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=$APIFY_TOKEN" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"companies": ["Nvidia", "Stripe"], "timespan": "24h", "maxItems": 50}'

Python:

from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("<YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN>")
run = client.actor("transparent_meteorite/company-news-monitor").call(run_input={"companies": ["Nvidia", "Stripe"], "timespan": "24h", "maxItems": 50})
for item in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
print(item)

The same actor works in n8n, Make, Zapier, LangChain, LlamaIndex and CrewAI through their Apify integrations.

Questions people ask

How do I get alerts when a company is in the news? Put the company names in companies, turn on deltaMode and schedule the actor; each run returns only new articles.

Can I filter for funding or layoff news? Yes, use eventFilter with the event tags.

Is the full article text included? No, you get headline, link, publisher, date and snippet.

Use it from code

Small real input: it returns only a couple of rows, so a test run costs very little (see Pricing). Set the APIFY_TOKEN environment variable to your token from Apify Console > Settings > API & Integrations.

Python (pip install apify-client)

import os
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient(os.environ["APIFY_TOKEN"])
run_input = {'companies': ['Nvidia'], 'timespan': '24h', 'maxItems': 2}
run = client.actor("transparent_meteorite/company-news-monitor").call(run_input=run_input)
for item in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
print(item)

JavaScript / Node.js (npm install apify-client)

import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
const client = new ApifyClient({ token: process.env.APIFY_TOKEN });
const input = {
"companies": [
"Nvidia"
],
"timespan": "24h",
"maxItems": 2
};
const run = await client.actor('transparent_meteorite/company-news-monitor').call(input);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
console.log(items);

curl (runs the actor and returns the dataset items in one call)

curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/transparent_meteorite~company-news-monitor/run-sync-get-dataset-items" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $APIFY_TOKEN" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"companies": ["Nvidia"], "timespan": "24h", "maxItems": 2}'

Send results to Google Sheets, Zapier, Make or n8n

  • Google Sheets: every run's dataset has a CSV export link: https://api.apify.com/v2/datasets/<DATASET_ID>/items?format=csv&clean=true (the dataset ID is on the run's Storage tab). In Sheets, =IMPORTDATA("<that link>") loads it. Anyone with the link can read that dataset, so share it carefully. To export to Google Drive automatically, use the Google Drive integration on the actor's Integrations tab.
  • Zapier: in the Apify app, use the trigger Finished Actor run (or Run Actor as an action) with transparent_meteorite/company-news-monitor, then Fetch dataset items and pass the rows to Google Sheets, a CRM or Slack.
  • Make: the Apify app has Watch Actor Runs, Run an Actor and Get Dataset Items modules; connect them to any Make app.
  • n8n: install the Apify node (@apify/n8n-nodes-apify) and use Run an Actor and get dataset, or the On new Apify event trigger.
  • Schedule and webhooks: create a Task with your input, add a Schedule in Apify Console, and add a webhook if you want a call when a run finishes.

See the Apify integrations docs for setup steps.

Integrations

API (any language):

curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/transparent_meteorite~company-news-monitor/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_TOKEN" \

-d '{"companies":["Nvidia","Stripe"],"timespan":"24h"}'

Python:

from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("YOUR_TOKEN")
run = client.actor("transparent_meteorite/company-news-monitor").call(run_input={"companies": ["Nvidia", "Stripe"], "timespan": "24h", "deltaMode": True})
for item in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
print(item["publishedAt"], item["sourceName"], item["title"], item["url"])

JavaScript:

import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
const client = new ApifyClient({ token: 'YOUR_TOKEN' });
const run = await client.actor('transparent_meteorite/company-news-monitor').call({ companies: ['Nvidia', 'Stripe'], timespan: '24h' });
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();

No-code: use the Apify apps for Make, Zapier and n8n, or attach a webhook (on run succeeded) to send new articles to Slack, email, a CRM or a Google Sheet. Combine with Schedules and delta mode for a real-time alert feed.

FAQ

Is this legal? It reads only public data from official channels: GDELT's open DOC 2.0 API (used within its one-request-per-5-seconds policy) and RSS/Atom feeds that publishers provide for syndication. It returns headlines, links and the feed's own short summary (cut to about 300 characters), never full article text. It does not log in, bypass paywalls or captchas, or scrape Google News or Bing News, whose RSS terms forbid commercial use. You are responsible for how you use the articles you click through to.

How is this different from a Google News scraper? It is built for monitoring: many companies per run, whole-word matching, cross-outlet dedupe, delta mode for schedules and event tags. It costs half as much per article and doesn't rely on scraping Google.

How fresh is the data? RSS feeds are read live at run time, and most bundled feeds were updated within the last few hours when checked. GDELT refreshes every 15 minutes.

What if GDELT is slow or rate-limiting? GDELT allows one request every 5 seconds per IP and sometimes throttles shared cloud IPs. The actor waits politely within gdeltTimeBudgetSecs (default 20 s), then delivers the RSS results anyway. You are only charged for articles actually delivered. The run's OUTPUT record shows what happened.

Can I add my own sources? Yes. Put any RSS or Atom URL in rssFeeds, such as trade press, a competitor's newsroom feed or a regulator's feed. Set useBundledFeeds: false to use only yours. Private and internal network addresses are refused.

How does delta mode know what I have seen? It stores canonical URLs and headline fingerprints for 45 days in the named key-value store stateStoreName in your own Apify account, keyed by your watch list. Change the watch list or the store name to start fresh.

Why did an article about my company not appear? The name must appear as a whole word in the headline or feed summary. Add aliases (for example Meta and Facebook), or widen the window. Use excludeWords to drop false positives from companies with the same name.

Do you return full article text? No. You get the headline, the link, the publisher's feed summary and image, so you can click through to the source.

More questions

How do I get alerts when a company is in the news? Add names to companies (or keywords), pick a timespan, and schedule the actor with deltaMode on.

Can I filter for funding or layoff news? Yes, with eventFilter; articles are tagged by event type.

Is the full article text included? No. You get the title, source, date, link and tags.

Where does the news come from? 75 bundled publisher RSS feeds, your own rssFeeds, and the GDELT index when it is reachable (it is often rate-limited).

How this compares

Paid media-monitoring services index far more sources and include full text and analytics. This actor is a lightweight, pay-per-article monitor built on publisher RSS feeds, with whole-word matching, deduplication and event tags.

Limits

  • Matching uses headline and feed summary only, not the full article.
  • Bundled feeds are English-language, and GDELT covers other languages. When sourceLanguage is not English, the bundled feeds are skipped.
  • Each RSS feed exposes its latest 10 to 300 items, so for long windows (14 to 30 days) on busy feeds GDELT gives the deeper history.
  • GDELT availability depends on the GDELT Project. When it throttles, results come from RSS only.
  • eventTags and sentiment are keyword rules on the headline and summary, not an AI model. They are good for filtering, not for analysis.

Reliability

Last 30 days, measured from Apify run records (all runs, including our own daily health checks): 27 of 28 finished runs succeeded (96.4%), median run time 31.7 s (90th percentile 44.6 s). Aborted runs (0) are not counted.

Updated 2026-10-11 automatically every week from the run history. Report any failure on the Issues tab with the run URL.
