What is Stock, Crypto & FX Quotes?

Stock, Crypto & FX Quotes is an Apify Actor that returns price, change, day range, volume and optional history for stocks, ETFs, indices, cryptocurrencies and currency pairs in a single call. Give it a mixed list of symbols — AAPL, BTC-USD, EUR/USD — and it auto-detects each one's asset type and reads it from the right free, public source: Yahoo Finance for equities, Binance (with a CoinGecko fallback) for crypto, and the Frankfurter API (European Central Bank reference rates) for FX. No API key, no brokerage account, no rate-limited scraping. Runs on Apify's schedule, webhook and API infrastructure, so a daily portfolio snapshot or a price-alert pipeline is a five-minute setup.

Data delay and disclaimer: Yahoo Finance's chart endpoint is delayed (typically 15-20 minutes for US equities), Binance and Frankfurter data is close to real time but Frankfurter's FX rates update once per weekday. This Actor is a data-retrieval tool, not a trading system, and nothing it returns is investment advice — verify prices with your broker or exchange before acting on them.

How to use Stock, Crypto & FX Quotes

  1. Fill Symbols with one ticker or pair per line — stocks (AAPL, ^GSPC), crypto (BTC, ETH-USD) and FX (EUR/USD, USDJPY=X) can all be mixed in one run.
  2. Leave Asset type on auto (recommended), or force every symbol in the run to be read as stock, crypto or fx if your list is all one type and you want to skip auto-detection.
  3. Turn on Include price history and set History days if you need daily closes for a chart, not just the latest quote.
  4. Click Start and export the dataset as JSON, CSV, Excel or HTML from the Output tab.

Pricing

Stock, Crypto & FX Quotes uses pay-per-event pricing: $0.001 per result row, plus a negligible actor-start fee. Pulling quotes for a 50-symbol watchlist costs about five cents. Set Maximum cost per run and the Actor trims the work to what the budget covers instead of overspending.

Stock, Crypto & FX Quotes vs. checking three different apps

A typical watchlist mixes stocks, crypto and currency pairs, but Yahoo Finance, a crypto exchange app and an FX converter all show one asset type at a time in a UI built for glancing, not exporting. This Actor takes one flat list across all three asset classes and returns one consistently typed row per symbol — ready to schedule, alert on, or join with other data — instead of three separate manual checks or three separate API integrations.

Using Stock, Crypto & FX Quotes with AI agents and MCP

Stock, Crypto & FX Quotes is pay-per-event with limited permissions — the two requirements for an Actor to be callable through the Apify MCP server at mcp.apify.com. An agent passes a symbols list and gets back structured price and change data it can use to answer "how is my portfolio doing" or "what's the EUR/USD rate right now" without writing separate integrations for equities, crypto and FX.

FAQ

Does this need a brokerage account, exchange API key or CoinGecko/Yahoo subscription? No. All three sources are free, public, unauthenticated endpoints: Yahoo Finance's chart JSON, Binance's public market-data API and CoinGecko's free tier, and the Frankfurter API for FX.

How current is the price? Yahoo Finance equity data typically runs 15-20 minutes delayed outside of a real-time data agreement. Binance crypto data is close to live exchange price. Frankfurter FX rates are the European Central Bank's daily reference rates, published once per weekday (not intraday).

Is this investment advice? No. This Actor only retrieves publicly available market data for informational purposes. It does not recommend trades, and past price movements shown in history are not a guarantee of future results.

Why did a crypto symbol fail? Binance does not list every coin against USDT. This Actor falls back to CoinGecko for a curated list of ~60 popular tickers; a coin outside both lists returns a clear error instead of a wrong guess.

Why is dayHigh/dayLow/volume null for FX rows? The Frankfurter API only publishes one daily reference rate per currency pair, not an intraday range or trading volume — those fields stay null for assetType: "fx" rows by design.

What counts as a stock vs crypto vs FX symbol in auto mode? A pair separated by /, an =X suffix, or a bare 6-letter symbol made of two recognised currency codes (EURUSD) is treated as FX. A -USD/-USDT/USDT suffix or a ticker from this Actor's curated list of ~60 popular coins is treated as crypto. Everything else — including indices (^GSPC) and multi-class share tickers (BRK-B) — is treated as a stock.

Is this legal to run? Yes. All four data sources are public, unauthenticated APIs intended for exactly this kind of programmatic use, and no personal or account data is collected.
