How to use the Google Play Reviews Scraper

1. Find your app's package ID — Open your app on Google Play, then copy the id value from the URL or search Play Store and note the package name (e.g., com.whatsapp).
2. Set app IDs or URLs — Paste one or more package IDs or full Play Store URLs into the App IDs or URLs field. The scraper accepts both formats.
3. Choose sort order — Select how to order reviews: Newest (default, most recent first), Most relevant (helpful flagged by users), or Highest rated (5 stars first).
4. Filter by stars (optional) — Leave blank to include all ratings, or enter [1, 2] to see only negative reviews, or [5] for 5-star reviews only.

Limitations

• Review volume — Google returns at most a few thousand reviews per app per sort order. The scraper hits this ceiling and stops pagination.
• Regional availability — Some apps have limited review history in certain regions (e.g., apps newly available in a country).
• Undocumented endpoint — The review RPC is not official Google API. While reverse-engineered from the Google Play web client and verified live, it could change or be rate-limited.
• No authentication — Unauthenticated requests work without login but may be blocked if a single IP fetches too many reviews from too many apps in a short time. If needed, use residential proxy via proxyConfiguration (additional cost: ~$0.01–0.02 per 1,000 reviews).

• Speed up large runs — To fetch reviews for many apps in parallel, use the live API or schedule multiple runs with different app batches rather than one large run (concurrency is limited to platform resource caps).
• Filter reviews efficiently — To get only negative reviews, set ratings: [1, 2]. The Actor fetches 3x more raw reviews and filters, so it may hit the review cap sooner. For a single rating, expect faster results.
• Try different sort orders — Reviews ranked as "most relevant" often surface recurring bugs or feature requests; "newest" shows current user sentiment; "highest rated" gives testimonial-style feedback for marketing.
• Export for analysis — Download as CSV to analyze in Excel, or JSON to ingest into a BI tool, NLP pipeline, or chatbot training dataset.

FAQ and support

Can I scrape reviews from multiple apps in one run?
Yes. Enter multiple app IDs or URLs in the App IDs or URLs field, separated by newlines. The Actor processes them sequentially and returns all reviews in one dataset.

Can I filter by date or other fields?
Not directly in this Actor—it only filters by star rating. Download the full dataset and filter locally, or use Apify's GET /datasets/{datasetId}/items API with query parameters to slice by date post-download.

Are the reviews real?
Yes. The scraper fetches from Google Play's official review API. Reviews may include fake or spam entries (Google's moderation catches most, but some slip through).
