Search the official U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) earthquake catalog for earthquakes anywhere in the world. You can filter by date range, magnitude, depth, a radius around any point, a bounding box, the PAGER impact alert level, the tsunami flag, and whether people reported feeling it. Each row includes the time (UTC), magnitude and type, place, latitude, longitude, depth, felt reports, maximum intensity (CDI/MMI), alert level, review status and a link to the USGS event page. No login, no API key.

Who is it for?

  • Insurers, reinsurers and risk analysts building event lists for exposure and claims work.
  • Logistics, supply chain and travel teams that monitor disruption near sites and routes.
  • Researchers, students and journalists analyzing seismic activity.
  • Developers feeding alerts, maps and dashboards on a schedule.

How to use it

  1. Set Last N days, or a start and end date.
  2. Set a minimum magnitude (the default is 2.5).
  3. Optionally search a circle (center latitude, longitude and radius in km) or a bounding box (south,west,north,east).
  4. Optionally filter by alert level, tsunami flag or felt reports, and sort by time or magnitude.
  5. Click Start and export to CSV, Excel or JSON, or schedule it.

Input example

{"lastDays": 30, "minMagnitude": 4.5, "latitude": 35.68, "longitude": 139.69, "radiusKm": 500, "sortBy": "magnitude"}

Output example

{"id": "us7000abcd", "time": "2026-10-25T14:03:11Z", "magnitude": 5.12, "magnitudeType": "mww", "place": "45 km E of Hachinohe, Japan", "latitude": 40.51, "longitude": 142.03, "depthKm": 35.0, "feltReports": 112, "alertLevel": "green", "tsunamiFlag": false, "url": "https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us7000abcd"}

How much does it cost?

Pay-per-event: a small fee per earthquake returned, plus a tiny per-run start fee. There is no subscription and no separate platform usage cost. For example, 1,000 earthquakes cost about $0.50. Searches with no matches and error rows are not charged. Set Max results or Maximum cost per run to cap your spending.

Use it through the API, integrations or AI agents

Run it from the Apify API, on a schedule, or connect it to Make, Zapier, n8n or Google Sheets. AI agents can find and call it through the Apify MCP server. Output is clean JSON with the same fields on every run.

FAQ

Is it legal? Yes. USGS earthquake data is U.S. government public domain data, offered through the public ComCat API. No personal data is involved.

How fresh is the data? Events usually appear within minutes. Magnitudes and locations can be revised as USGS reviews them, and the status field shows automatic or reviewed.

What is the PAGER alert? It is the USGS estimate of shaking impact (green, yellow, orange or red). Only larger events get one.

Why do I see fewer results than expected? Check your minimum magnitude. Small quakes (below 2.5) are only reported completely in some regions, mostly the United States.

Can I use it for warnings? No. Use official national warning services for safety decisions.
