What Data Can You Extract from Mafengwo?

Every place includes:

• Identity: place ID, name, canonical URL, place type, country destination ID
• Location: latitude, longitude, nearby attractions and nearby transport, each with its own coordinates and distance in metres
• Commerce: ticket and tour products with category, title, booking link, and starting price
• Structure: sub-attractions inside the place, with visitor counts and photos
• Surroundings: nearby restaurants with ratings and review counts; nearby hotels with starting prices, review counts, and how many travel notes mention them
• Signals: the Chinese review count for the place, and how it breaks down into positive, negative, photo and featured reviews, so you can rank places by sentiment without reading a single review
• Example reviews: two per place, with star rating, date, author level and photos
• Local experiences: bookable tours at the place, with how many were sold, their rating, duration and departure city

What is Mafengwo (Mafeng Wo / 马蜂窝 / "Hornet's Nest")? Mafengwo is one of China's long-running travel communities, where Chinese travellers publish trip reports, destination guides, and reviews of attractions, restaurants, and hotels. It is often described as China's answer to TripAdvisor crossed with a guidebook. This actor covers the places side of the site: attractions and their surrounding food, hotels, and ticket options.

Which links can I paste? Place links like mafengwo.cn/poi/5426285.html and destination links like mafengwo.cn/travel-scenic-spot/mafengwo/10133.html. Open the page on Mafengwo and copy the address bar; the actor detects which kind it is.

How many places can I get from one destination? A destination link resolves to that destination's top places, currently around 80 for a large city. Turn on expandNearby to keep discovering outward from those places, bounded by maxPois.

Can I get the full review text for a place? Not from this actor: it returns the review count so you can see which places are heavily reviewed. Review text is a separate job because it is far more work per place. A dedicated Mafengwo reviews actor is in progress.

How fresh is the data? Every run fetches live pages, so ticket prices, nearby hotel rates, and review counts reflect the moment the run happened. Nothing is served from a cache.

Why are some fields empty? Not every place carries every field. Small attractions often have no ticket products and no sub-attractions, and nearby hotels carry a starting price where nearby restaurants carry a star rating instead. Fields that do not apply come back as null rather than being dropped.

Do I need a Mafengwo account? No. Paste public links and run.

How do I export the data? JSON, CSV, Excel, XML, or HTML from the run's Storage tab, or through the Apify API. Each place carries nested lists (nearby attractions, tickets, sub-attractions), so JSON preserves the structure best; CSV flattens those columns.

Is it legal to scrape Mafengwo place data? The actor reads publicly visible pages only, nothing behind a login. You are responsible for complying with Mafengwo's terms of service and with applicable data protection law, including GDPR, CCPA, and China's PIPL. Can I get hotel room rates rather than a starting price? Not here. This actor reports the starting price shown next to a nearby hotel. For live, date-specific room rates across China and globally, use Ctrip Hotel Prices.

Can I get phone numbers and opening hours for these places? Mafengwo does not publish those on its place pages. For Chinese POI contact details and opening hours, use Baidu Maps POI, which you can match on the place name and coordinates this actor returns.

What does type mean in the output? It is Mafengwo's own place classification. Attractions are type 3 and transport stops are type 6, which is why nearby attractions and nearby transport arrive as two separate lists. Other values appear for things like festivals and events.
