Search and collect extension data from two open marketplaces: Firefox Add-ons (addons.mozilla.org) and the Open VSX Registry, the open marketplace for VS Code-compatible editors such as VSCodium, Cursor, Gitpod and Theia. Firefox rows include daily users, weekly downloads, rating and rating count, categories and tags, the Mozilla "recommended" badge, requested permissions (including host permissions), version, license, minimum Firefox version, privacy-policy flag, created and updated dates, homepage and listing URL. Open VSX rows include total downloads, rating, review count, categories, tags, license, repository, publisher namespace, verified-publisher flag, deprecation flag, minimum VS Code version and last update. Developers' personal names and support emails are not returned. No login or API key is needed.

Who is it for?

  • Extension developers and product teams researching competitors, categories and gaps.
  • Security and IT teams reviewing the permissions of popular add-ons.
  • Developer-tool marketers and VCs tracking adoption trends.
  • Researchers studying the browser and editor extension ecosystems.

How to use it

  1. Choose stores (the default is both).
  2. Enter search terms (the default is "password manager"), or leave them empty and sort by popular to list the top extensions.
  3. Optionally look up extension IDs (ublock-origin, redhat.vscode-yaml), filter by category or minimum users/downloads, and choose a sort order.
  4. Click Start and export to CSV, Excel or JSON.

Input example

{"stores": ["firefox"], "searchTerms": ["ad blocker", "vpn"], "sortBy": "popular", "maxResultsPerSearch": 100}

Output example

{"store": "firefox", "id": "ublock-origin", "name": "uBlock Origin", "version": "1.75.0", "users": 11472925, "weeklyDownloads": 242311, "rating": 4.8, "ratingCount": 22263, "recommended": true, "permissions": ["alarms", "dns", "storage", "tabs", "webRequest", "<all_urls>"], "url": "https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/"}

How much does it cost?

Pay-per-event: a small fee per extension returned, plus a tiny per-run start fee. There is no subscription and no separate platform usage cost. For example, 1,000 extensions cost about $0.50. Searches with no matches and error rows are not charged. Use Max results per search and store or Maximum cost per run to cap your spending.

Use it through the API, integrations or AI agents

Run it from the Apify API, on a schedule, or connect it to Make, Zapier, n8n or Google Sheets. AI agents can find and call it through the Apify MCP server. Output is clean JSON with the same fields on every run.

FAQ

Is it legal? Yes. Both marketplaces offer documented public APIs (the AMO API v5 and the Open VSX REST API) for reading public listing data. The tool reads only public listings, at a polite rate, and drops developers' personal names and support emails.

Does it cover the Chrome Web Store or the Microsoft VS Code Marketplace? No. Those stores have no public API, and their terms restrict automated collection. Open VSX hosts most popular open-source VS Code extensions.

What does "users" mean for Firefox? It is Mozilla's average daily users figure. Open VSX reports total downloads instead.

Can I get reviews? Not yet. This version returns listing data and ratings.
