Get US healthcare organizations from the official CMS NPPES NPI Registry, the national registry every healthcare provider that bills insurance must be listed in. This tool returns organizations only (NPI type 2), such as hospitals, clinics and centers, pharmacies, laboratories, home health agencies, group practices, nursing facilities, ambulance services and durable medical equipment suppliers. Each row has the 10-digit NPI, organization name, other or doing-business-as names, primary provider type (taxonomy) and code, all taxonomies, practice location address, mailing address, whether it is a subpart of a parent organization, enumeration and last-updated dates, status, and a link to the registry page. You can search by state, city, ZIP code (5-digit or 3-digit prefix), provider type and organization name. No login or API key is needed.

Who is it for?

  • Healthcare sales and marketing teams building lists of pharmacies, clinics, labs or hospitals in a territory.
  • Health tech, billing and RCM companies checking and enriching NPI numbers.
  • Market researchers and investors sizing provider markets by city or ZIP code.
  • Data teams keeping provider directories up to date.

How to use it

  1. Enter states and cities, or ZIP codes (the default is Austin, TX).
  2. Set a provider type (the default is Pharmacy), for example Hospital, Clinic/Center, Home Health or Laboratory.
  3. Optionally enter part of an organization name, then click Start.

Note: the registry requires more than a state on its own, so combine a state with a city, ZIP code or provider type.

Input example

{"states": ["CA"], "cities": ["San Diego", "Los Angeles"], "taxonomy": "Home Health", "maxResultsPerSearch": 500}

How much does it cost?

Pay-per-event: a small fee per organization returned, plus a tiny per-run start fee. There is no subscription and no separate platform usage cost. For example, 1,000 organizations cost about $0.50. Searches with no matches and error rows are not charged. Use Max results per search or Maximum cost per run to cap your spending.

Use it through the API, integrations or AI agents

Run it from the Apify API, on a schedule, or connect it to Make, Zapier, n8n or Google Sheets. AI agents can find and call it through the Apify MCP server. Output is clean JSON with the same fields on every run.

FAQ

Is it legal? Yes. CMS publishes the NPI Registry as public data, and the official API is free for anyone to use. To avoid personal data, this tool returns organizations only. It leaves out individual practitioners, authorized official names and all phone and fax numbers. It is not affiliated with CMS.

Why is there a limit of 1,200 per search? The registry API returns at most 1,200 records per query. Split large areas by city or ZIP code.

How fresh is it? The NPI Registry is updated daily.

Can I look up individual doctors? No. This tool covers organizations only.
