A value 1688 does not give is null, never an empty string. Reviews written on Taobao for the same product (reviewSource: "taobao") carry no 1688 buyer level, rating history or variant: those fields are null on them rather than guessed.

Photos show the real colour, stitching and packaging, the details a supplier's own pictures leave out. The photo tab keeps only reviews with pictures; each row lists every photo in images. In our test, an offer ID and a review page link with this filter returned 20 reviews from 2 products in 5 seconds, all of them with photos.

FAQ

What is 1688? 1688.com (阿里巴巴1688) is Alibaba's domestic Chinese wholesale marketplace, the factory-direct counterpart of Alibaba.com. Factories and wholesalers sell to Chinese shops, resellers and, through sourcing agents, to sellers on Amazon, Shopify and TikTok Shop. Its reviews are written by the buyers who placed those wholesale orders.

Do I need a 1688 account? No. The actor reads the reviews any visitor can see on 1688. No account, no login, nothing to paste from your browser.

Why are so many 1688 reviews only stars? On 1688 a buyer who never rates gets a default positive rating posted by 1688 (系统默认好评), and a buyer who only gives stars gets a sentence 1688 writes for them ("该用户觉得商品非常赞，给出了五星好评"). The actor flags both: isAutoReview marks 1688's default rating, isTemplateText marks any review with no words of the buyer's own. Pick Written reviews and those rows never reach your dataset; on the keyword run above, 30 rows out of 30 had the buyer's own text.

What does reviewSource: "taobao" mean? Some 1688 products are also sold on Taobao, and 1688 shows the Taobao reviews of the same product in its list. Those rows have reviewSource: "taobao". They carry the stars, text, photos, quantity and dates, but no 1688 buyer level, rating history or variant, so those fields are null on them.

Are the reviews translated? No. The text, the variant names and the units stay exactly as the buyer and 1688 wrote them, in Chinese, so nothing is lost or rewritten. Translate the text column with the tool you already use; the Python recipe above shows where to plug it in.

Can I search 1688 by keyword? Yes. Put one keyword per line in Keywords; the actor reads the reviews of the products 1688 returns, in the order buyers see them, and records the keyword on each row. Chinese keywords return more relevant products, since 1688 serves Chinese buyers. Set Max reviews per product to spread the run over several products.

How many reviews can I get per product? Every review 1688 lists for the product, ten per page, within Max reviews. productReviewsCount tells you how many the product has; it can differ from what the list serves, because 1688 rounds it ("2100+") and, on products also sold on Taobao, counts the Taobao reviews in it.

How fresh is the data? Live. Every run reads 1688 at run time; nothing comes from a cache. Schedule the actor to follow a supplier over time.

Can I combine filters? Yes. The review filter, the per-product cap and the run cap apply together and to every product of the run: reviewFilter: "negative" with maxReviewsPerProduct: 20 and two keywords gives up to 20 complaints per product for the top products of both searches.

Are the links permanent? productUrl and url are permanent 1688 links. Photo links (images, productImageUrl, authorAvatarUrl) point to 1688's image servers; download the photos you need to keep, as a seller can remove a product and its pictures.

What dates and numbers do I get? Dates are RFC 3339 in UTC, converted from the Beijing time 1688 shows (2026-03-08 01:57 in Beijing is 2026-03-07T17:57:41Z). Prices are numbers in yuan with currency: "CNY", counts are numbers, never "2100+" strings.
